Sabotaged myself w smoking.
Remember why you're on this journey...to become a healthier you. I smoked for 20 plus years and I stopped smoking 2 1/2 years ago. I saw my son (4 years old back then) pretending to smoke with a pencil and kept saying I want to be like daddy. That was the last straw for me. Trust me it's really not that hard, as long as you really want to quit. Our minds are extremely powerful if we are motivated enough. The first 3 days were the worst, once you pass that it's allot better as long as you truly want to quit. Good luck to you!!

Leak?
I agree with everyone above...remember you just had major surgery and you're still at risk through 6 weeks post op. Better to be safe than sorry...keep us posted!!

Worried about getting stuck at the border
Should not have any issues crossing into Mexico...Passport are now required to re-enter the US by land and air. I believe you can cross currently on a ship with birth certificate. You can fast track one for him. Better to be safe than sorry!!

BCBS OF ILLINOIS
It ranges from 24 hours up to 2 weeks. It depends on your insurance case worker. Plus it depends if your surgeon office has sent all the needed information in your package request. I was sleeved on August 26th this year and it took me 2 weeks to receive my approval.

When did you start really working out?
I started walking the day of sugery (8/16/13). I try to get at least 10,000 steps daily. I started speed walking two weeks ago. I'm anxiously waiting for week 6 to start Insanity. I was cleared for this type of program in week 6.

Calories....
I'm at <800 a day. Feels right for me right now. It's was hard to understand you're not hungry, but you mind tells you it's lunch time and you need to eat. That isn't the case. Once you get passed this it gets easier.

I cant stand liquids
Your new pouch is at a higher risk for leaks until 6 weeks post op.

I cant stand liquids
Everyone feels this way. You're almost at the pureed phase. Keep up with the program, it's very important. My program was as follows; 2 week before surgery - Meal Replacement shakes Day before surgery- Clear Liquids Post-op Week 1 -2: liquid diet Week 3: pureed phase Week 4 - 5: soft food Week 6 and beyond: all food as tolerated The time feels like forever now, but you'll be on soft foods in no time.

Surgery a week away, having second thoughts! Help...
Most of us have these thoughts, but you need to trust all the reasons why you chose to start down this path. Plus trust the research you completed regarding the procedure and the surgeon. It scary and you'll be nervous until the day of surgery. I was sleeved on August 26th this year and it's been an amazing ride so far. Good luck to you both!!

Every surgeon has different guidelines. You need to follow up with yours and your PCP to get a better understanding of their restrictions. These were mine. Max 10 pounds for first 2 weeks Max 20 pounds for weeks 2 - 4

Pulmonary function and ABG
I had to do a pulmonary evaluation and I think many do. They hooked me up to a breathing machine and had me breathe in and out to measure my range for both. This vist took about 1 1/2 hours. I had ABG completed because I was diagnosed with severe sleep Apnea and they wanted to measure my oxygen in my blood. This was completed in the same pulmonary visit. They tapped into the artery on my hand, backside of your wrist. Just to warn you, this procedure burns alot! I went to Suburban Lung Associates. Doctor Hart is great, but Marilyn/nurse was amazing. Good Luck!!
