Ok all you post op sleevers! How did you spend your day?? Did you take any pics? I'm like the "selfie" queen these days But today for thanksgiving my little family unit did our traditional thanksgiving at the beach. For the last 6 years I cook everything the day before (and they all eat like piggies) then on thanksgiving proper we pack up turkey sandwiches and spend the day giving thanks at the beach Here are some of my pictures, Please show me some of yours!

My daughter took 3 pairs of jeans from me this weekend..that only gave me a couple pairs of pants left...I begged my hubby to take me to the store to get some smaller jeans so that I would be prepared for the next size down...He did...I bought all 14-16 pants...
Today for fun I put one of the pair of 16 brown cords on and they FIT....with no compression garment either...I hardly ever wear them at home....Lets see...gone from a 6 X to a 15-16...hmmmm.....okay I'mm totally stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

keglenne reacted to LyndseyD in I Lived Through This Surgery, My Sister Didn't.
    Hi Everyone,
I wanted to jump on here and share with you all the last six months for our family. My name is Lyndsey. I am a 28 year old mother of two, and married to my prince charming. For me, weight has been a struggle my entire life. I remember vividly being told at just 5 years old by a doctor that I was "obese" and from that point forward my journey really began. I had a pretty normal life, but fought weigth my whole life. I met my wonderful husband at work after loosing 60 pounds all on my own. Needless to say, marriage and getting comfortable- well, and having two children gave me all of that, plus more back. Before the surgery I was 255 with a BMI of 41.9. I had my surgery (VSG) May 8th, 2013 and just over 6 months later I am weighing in at 159.5. Since surgery I have had it pretty easy. I healed well, but did get pancreatitis right after the surgery and had to be hospitalized again for a few days. They were never sure if it was related to the surgery or not. Since the surgery I have tried really hard to make healthy choices with food, but to be completely honest I am a mom, and occasionally we do still eat McDonalds! (gasp!) I do not count calories, carbs, or anything for that matter. My doctor never told me I needed to. I DO drink diet coke... (terrible, I know!) I live a normal life now. I go out with my family, friends, and I am not constantly on some fad diet that wont work. I eat what my family eats, but I do try to focus on eating the Protein first, and follow that with the veggies, then the yummy sides if there is room (which there almost never is!). My goal is to be somewhere in the 130's. I really dont care if its 139.9 but I want to be in the 130's. I hope to reach that goal by the one year anniversary of my surgery.
I would also like to tell you about my big sister, my only sibling. Sherrie was a 34 year old mother of three, and also married to her high school sweetheart. They have been married almost 17 years. Sherrie had her surgery April 24th (2 weeks before me) and there were complications following the surgery. We didn't see it as much at first, or I probably wouldn't have gone through with it myself. But as I healed and started getting back to normal, my sister got sicker and sicker. Her stomach had a stricture at the top. The surgon put in a stent to try to expand it. They stent bacame embedded into her stomach wall and they had to dig it out. After that, the middle of her stomach healed closed so tightly that she couldn't eat or drink anything and keep it down. She had eaten almost nothing for 6 months. She was in and out of the hospital, and the surgon made it very difficult for her to get anyone to help her. Finally when they found the problem we were able to schedule her with a new surgon to hopefully get the problem fixed. She was hospitalized twice in October for dehydration and malnutrition. The second time they put in a PIC line, and bagan IV nutrition (TPN). She was finally feeling better. They sent her home with the PIC line and instructions on how to give herself the IV nutrition and we were told to continue this until her appointment with the new surgon. She came home from the hospital Monday afternoon. Tuesday I talked to her, and she sounded better than she had in months. She was optimistic that we could get her better and even shared with me that before they started the IV nutrition she was scared she was going to die, but now she felt like she has a chance. Wednesday morning (October 30th, 2013) we got the call that broke our family. My beautiful big sister had died at home, alone in her bed. She had asked her husband to not sleep in their bed as she was scared he would pull out her PIC line, so he was in another room. He came into their room that morning to check on her and get ready for work and found her. It was just too late. She had been gone for several hours. We were in shock. We had just got a glimpse of hope with the IV nutrition, and in the blink of an eye, she was gone. I went to the funeral home to dress my big sister, do her hair, do her makeup, and spend some time with her before we had to say goodbye. We burried her the following Monday. A huge piece of my heart is missing now. I want to share her story too because there are so many who have all these wonderful stories, but she doesn't have a voice anymore to share hers. People need to know that you CAN die from this surgery. When I had the surgery I honestly felt like the only people that die from this were the "huge" ones... and thats just not true. My sister was my size. she wasn't some crazy 500 or 800 pound person. She was in a size 18 pants JUST like I was. She died. It can happen. It does happen. I did happen to us. I am not trying to scare anyone, but I want to be her voice too. Do you research, make sure this is the right choice for you and your family. We are left now with three children that now have no mother, and my amazing brother in law (who loved my sister more than I've ever seen anyone love someone) is widowed. His heart is broken, and so is ours. A vital part of our family is missing. Below is a picture of my big sister before the surgery. She was beautiful.

I'm still in shock! I bought 3 different pairs of pants yesterday in a size 10. All different brands, so it wasn't just a fluke. The first picture is a month before surgery and 2 weeks before my pre-op diet. The second picture is me in my new size 10 jeans.
    I'm down 102 lbs in 10 1/2 months!

Tomorrows a milestone birthday for me but can't Celebrate like I typically would because im still recovering from surgery and am on the gross Protein shake/soup phase and I think I'll have a meltdown if I go out and see people eating yummy food. Also my incisions are still sore so have been wearing baggy clothes and working from home.
I'm grateful to have had he surgery and hopefully next year i will be at the lowest weight ever and can have a birthday blowout in a sexy dress and heels. Le sigh!

I have the same issue. My husband eats whatever and whenever he feels like it. This is the thing he has a totally different metabolism and genetic makeup than I do. Also he is comfortable with his weight but im not. So the way I look at it is this is my battle not anyone elses. I have to be in control of my own destiny. I have to make my own decisions on becoming a better me. Also this decision that I made to have the gastric sleeve done was solely my decision. I did this for me. So dont worry about your husband keep fighting till you are where you wana be. If you need support you have this forum and other support groups. Good luck God bless and lets loose some weight.:-)

I'm 5 months out from surgery and I've lost 94 pounds. I have 55 pounds left to lose to reach my goal of 125. I'm 5 ft tall. I'm so excited about the weight I've lost so far and feel a million times better.
I hesitate to post this because the before pic is me in my underwear but It's the only pic I have that really shows the difference. I hope it doesn't offend anyone.
My family is getting ready to go on a beach trip and I bought a swim suit. I got a halter bikini top and swim shorts. I tried to find a pic of me last year at the beach but I couldn't find any that showed me from the shoulders down...but I found this underwear pic from the night before surgery.
I've lost a total of 64 inches so far! I've lost 13.5 inches from my hips and 10 inches from each thigh!! I'm amazed at the process and I'm loving this journey!
Please, if underwear offends you, do not click on the pic. :-)

Everyone's explanation of what carbs can do is so correct. I have been dealing with the carb thing for years. Im about three weeks out. I love my sleeve. I have tried meximelt from taco bell. It was good. Went down really well. But i felt really full. It was the doughy soft tortilla. I will probably have to eat little to none carbs for the rest of my life also. My nut told me that carbs are like crack cocaine and she said it just like that. You eat them and soon as your body breaks them down into sugar. You are hungry again and craving more and more. She said this is why you want to do Protein first then your veggies carbs last. After filling up on your protein and veggies you really wont have alot of room for your carbs. Well she is correct. I really appreciate this forum because you guys keep me in check. Thanks alot

Posting it has made it better for me even if it bothered others. I know it is rare so I just had to know if anyone has experienced it. I wish the best for everyone still waiting for their day of surgery.

My plan is very different then yours. The only thing my nut said was to hit 60 grams of Protein a day and to drink 8 glasses of Water. That's what I do, and I am 19 lbs from goal in 8.5 months.
Also I am supposed to eat 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks a day.

keglenne reacted to ItsMe2033 in Gallbladder issues after sleeve or gastric bypass
I agree with your point that people who have had weight loss surgery are more likely to have gall bladder problems. It's actually not the extra Protein that causes the problem, but rather the rapid weight loss. If you go search for this on pubmed you will find study after study that mentions the gall bladder problems caused by the rapid weight loss after weight loss surgery. It can also happen just with rapid weight loss even though someone doesn't have weight loss surgery at all.
The underlying problem appears to actually be caused by the diminished fat intake. Since people take in less fat, the gall bladder appears to be storing a higher amount of bile, and this results in more opportunity for the crystallization of the bile acids.
To cut down on the risk of developing gall bladder problems I asked my surgeon to prescribe Actigall for me for the first six months after my sleeve surgery.

Today is my 6th month since surgery. For those of you about to go through the surgery I can tell you the time just fly's by! It is crazy to think that in only 6 months so many things have changed. I actually weigh less now than I did in High School. I hope that the next 6 months fly by like the first and that I can say by the end of a year out that I am at goal!
Starting Weight was 362 and today I weigh 250. That is 112 pounds gone. My goal is 230 so I have 20 pounds to go!

Rocsi im sorry that happened to you
i know you were scared. Sometimes with drugs some people have to be given a little bit more of the drug for it to be effective. Like when i go to the dentist i always have to be given more anesthia than the dentist normally gives. Im so sorry you was not in a position to say anything. Use this as a learning tool and make sure to share your experience with the physician. Also you need to find out what drug(anesthia) was used. In the future for anymore surgical procedures they can use something else. There are so many other drugs in that class they can use. Im glad you posted. This is good info for people to share with their DR. Good luck and keep on moving. Take your pain medicine and lets loose some weight. You can do this. God bless.
