I don't have too many now but I make them up with Water. I think that some people make them up with milk.

I used Water or milk as a base in my shakes until I developed slight lactose intolerance early out. When cleared for full liquids my NUT said I could put Fresh fruit (preferably without seeds) into my shakes as long a I blended them up real good. I didn't add a whole lot extra because the texture of my shakes straight sat very well in my tummy and was afraid to get them thicker.

I wish I lost that much within days when I was sleeved. To make it worse, I had a stall about the 2nd or 3rd week and you know that was not fun. That amount of weight loss is just fine, some lose less, some more, some even gain back their preop weight within days after surgery plus more. Like the previous person said, most of these are most likely Water weight even for the people that gain. Good luck, see you on the skinny side of life.

Welcome! Losing 8 pounds is a wonderful start! You will fluctuate from time to time or just totally stall. If you haven't done measurements do them now! When you aren't losing on the scale you are losing in inches. This is still weight loss and the scale will reflect it eventually. Congratulations on your surgery!

After surgery folks lose varying amounts of weight and some even gain weight. The 8 pounds does not indicate anything bad, your body is adjusting. It will slow down, stop, resume, gain, and lose again on the course of your new journey.

Today is my 36th birthday and for the first time in 30 years I am not overweight. I started my WLS journey 1-1-12 (surgery 2-14-12) and since then I have lost an entire person. I started at 335# and a size 28. Today I am 160# and a size 8. I am 20# below my surgical goal. It is a very shocking transformation and I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around it. I am less than half the weight I started out at and wear about 1/4 the size clothes. Mindboggling. I don't even recognize myself, let alone people that haven't seen me in awhile. I don't plan to try to lose any more because I am getting way too bony. I am in the process of trying to have plastic surgery though. I believe when that is done I will be a size 6..possibly even a 4/6. Unbelievable. I am a large framed woman and never would have believed it was possible for me to be this small. A 16 was my goal because it was the smallest I could ever remember being.

chris82 reacted to Beach Lover in What are the things you wish you knew before surgery that would have made after surgery easier?
The best thing you can do is stay on this forum and read! My surgery was so easy because of the information I learned here. The hardest thing I had to deal with was the head hunger after surgery. It seemed like food assaulted me at every turn. This does get easier after a few melt downs, tears, and picking fights with people and then realizing it is your head hunger. You will also find that it is very very important to get liquids in. It is so easy to get dehydrated and many have ended up in the ER for fluids. If you find yourself fuzzy headed, dizzy, dark urine, cramping, dry mouth then you are dehydrated and need to get a G2 or a Smart Water with electrolytes. When you go to the hospital wear very loose fitting close (you can wear them home). Bring Gas X strips, toiletries, and that's it. You will wear a hospital gown the whole time and when you walk use another one for a house coat. They will give you sock with grips on the bottom. You might bring a favorite pillow. When you are in pre op with your nurse tell her you want a private room. This is when they assign you your room. When you are post op tell the floor nurse you want the flavored sponges to hydrate your lips and mouth. These were a lifesaver to me! During your recovery you might find yourself doing really well for a few days then exhaustion may kick in. This is your body healing and it takes several weeks for this to go away. Get plenty of rest! You will do fantastic!
