AshleyMidwife got a reaction from aroundhky in Share your "slow loss" success!
Awesome woman! It doesn't matter how we get there or how long it takes, as long as we feel good about the journey and are our healthiest selves!! Feel good about what you've accomplished. There are tons of people out there with this same journey and they need to know we all have different journeys and each one is a change for the better! I had my surgery dec 9, 2013 and lost 30lbs month 1. It's been much slower since then. I have lost a total of 66lbs and am now almost 5 months out. I have approx 50 lbs until goal. Working on exercising more (it's been a struggle) and that always kicks up my loss. I think about this as a lifestyle and am ok with slow loss. Congrats on all you've achieved!

I had my sleeve done on Sept 30, 2013 in MX. It was a little rough at first but almost 7 months later I can't believe how normal I feel.
I did not weigh prior to surgery. Day of surgery 300lbs. Today 220!!!
I don't follow the rules as much as I should. I rarely have a shake. I try to get all my food from Protein. I rarely eat bread or past. I mostly eat meats and vegetables. I eat a sweet every night. I need to drink more Water. I drink alcohol about 2 to 3 times a month.
I probably could have lost more but honestly I am happy with my progress. My biggest concern was never eating the foods I like. I eat small portions if whatever I like. So loosing and eating what I want on occasion is success to me. My goal weight is 160 and I hope to get there by Sept.

I finally believed I had lost weight when I could wear MY daughters clothes. She was donating clothes that were too big for her since she lost weight (she is now in a size 3-4) and I went through the bags. I found several size 10 clothes that fit!!!. I also selected several size 8 clothes to "shrink into".

I was sleeved on August 19th. Was 381 at my highest, 360 day of surgery, 275 yesterday at my checkup. Down 106 lbs overall. I lost a kid! These are from our profile pics on our company intranet. I didn't see the difference till my boss suggested replacing my old pic a couple weeks ago. I am happy with the results...about 55 to 65 lbs more to go.

AshleyMidwife reacted to mattlap in Today is my 1 Year Surgiversary!
OK so I never posted, but for the past year I have read constantly. I'm 38 years old married with 2 small children and I topped out at 390lbs. I couldn't play with my kids without getting out of breath. My life revolved around food. ALL types of food and LOTS of it. Spent my life on diets. Tried everything, would lose a lot and then go right back up and then some. Everyone knows what that's like!
So I decided to take the plunge. The Dr was great. I came in thinking Lap Band, but he told me about the sleeve and I decided on it. BEST DECISION EVER! Surgery took an hour. No pain. Spent the next 2 weeks drinking ONE Protein shake a day and Water. I was starving only once and the Dr told me to take a spoonful of apple sauce. I thought he was joking.... but I was stuffed! Crazy! The next 2 weeks I was on mushy food (eggs, greek yogurt, fish). Then I started reg food. I eat like a mouse, still do. But it's ok because I'm full. I would eat half a grilled chicken breast and be stuffed!
Then I started working out. I started slowly. Walking on the treadmill, then jogging, then some light weights. I work out like a beast now. 6 days a week. I do T25 and I drink Shakeology for Breakfast. This has been a life changer. Shaun T kicks my ass every morning! I never would have been able to do it before the surgery.
My success was 100% mental. I knew the Dr was going to take 90% of my stomach out of my body and I wasn't going to screw it up. I wasn't going to cheat and drink mik shakes because I "needed" something sweet. I wasn't going to eat a cheeseburger and throw it up so I can eat another... I was going ALL IN. I don't drink soda, I do drink Dr Oz's green juice. I don't eat burgers, I do eat Salmon. I don't have milk shakes, I do have Weight Watchers ice cream bars. Greek Yogurt is tops but don't get it with fruit in it....all sugar. Buy fresh blueberries and mix them into plain
Now don't get me wrong, I'll have a couple of adult beverages, or some blue corn tortilla chips, or maybe some peanut m&ms, but it's not a regular thing.
The scale helped me and will help you guys too. When you see that weight melt off, and I do mean melt, you will want to keep eating healthy. I shop in the mall now! And not the one with Casual Male in it. I do to banana Republic!! It is AWESOME. I went from a size 48" waist to a 34". My suit size was 58 Long, Now 44 Long SLIM FIT Calvin Klein!!!!WHAT!!!!!! I was a 4xl shirt now I get these things from banana, XL Tailored Slim Fit!!!! Ridiculous.
You guys can do it. If I can get to where I'm at now, anyone can!

@@PdxMan has some good points (he usually does!).
For me right now, at 5 months post-op, I find it's fairly easy to make good choices because I'm in tune with how I feel when I eat something. I once took a class about mindful eating and one of the things they said was to "eat like a skinny person"...there have been studies that show that skinny people often think about how they are going to feel after they eat something as opposed to the obese who don't. I can now think about how something is going to make me feel after I eat it - I won't eat it if I get a bad or gnarly reaction.
pizza was a go-to meal for me pre-surgery - we would have it once or twice per week. I loved pizza. I loved Pasta. But now, I really don't think about it. Here's what happened last week...my husband wanted to go to our favorite Pasta place and asked if that was OK. I really don't care much about food any more, so I was like sure, I'll just order something with chicken in it. I took a couple of bites of the bread (pre-surgery, it was multiple pieces), we shared an entree (of which I ate a few bites of chicken and a couple of bites of pasta - the pasta did NOTHING for me), then came dessert...the dreaded "D" word. The Zappolli at this place is amazing... I had 3 of the smallest pieces I could find and dipped them in raspberry sauce. It was delicious...but I knew if I had more, I wouldn't feel good, so I stopped. I left feeling perfectly normal and perfectly satisfied.
I am thankful for my sleeve - it makes me think before I eat. It doesn't make decisions for me, but I have to make decisions for it's sake and I have to treat it with respect or it gets angry with me.
You'll be able to eat all kinds of foods eventually - it doesn't mean you should. There is a certain amount of fear for me with my sleeve - I don't want to abuse it, I don't want to waste this opportunity I have been given. Right now, food just doesn't mean that much to me.

I love pizza too! I just eat the toppings now. I'm 4 months out. It can be a slippery slope! But even though I know I can't eat pizza like I did before, I like that I can occasionally get the taste of it. Still got live life right?!

I'm not single, but have had this thought over the years when I've lost significant weight (then gained it back). I think if you find someone you really enjoy and can trust with the information about your past self and surgery, if they can accept that and love you even more for it, then hang onto that person! You can't expect someone to love you for who you used to be. You weren't happy with the person either remember. This is you chance to reinvent yourself. You want someone who loves you for who you are! Not who you were. I think though that if they can't accept your journey, you might reconsider. Love who you are and work it!!!

I am 15 months post op. I get hungry, with stomach growl and all, but unlike preop, if I drink some Water, I can satisfy that hunger usually for another one to two hours. I really only had about 2-3 months where I wasn't hungry at all.

Me and my wife just returned from a 7 day cruise and had a great time. Was totally excited when we both weighed in when got home yesterday to find out we only gained 1 pound each. Ate very well on the boat and did plenty of drinking and had dessert at dinner every night. hopefully the photos will attach to this. It felt great to just get away and have a good time. First time since surgery i have gone more than 1 day without scale.< /p>
The picture with the southenmost point in the US is in Key West the top picture was two years ago. My wife is about 10 months and I am 16 months post-op.
