About Me

  1. Hi Guys! I am reaching out because I am very discouraged and frustrated. My highest weight was 362 in April 2013. I was 350 at time of application to have surgery and 338 on surgery date (8-14-13). Today I bounce between 277 and 274. I have only lost about 5-10 lbs in the last 2 mths. I will bounce up and down between several pounds before I drop down and stay down, then I bounce around between those weights (make sense? it sounds confusing!) I have my 6 month follow up appointment next week and I am really discouraged about the weight loss so far. My Dr. wanted me to have lost 90 lbs from surgery date and I am at 64. I am on 2 antidepressants and a mood stabilizer as well as breastfeeding a toddler. It seems like I eat a lot more now and rarely get in all my Water. I get my vits in most of the time and always meet my Protein goals. I think I am addicted to sugar again and am having a hard time kicking it. I just need some help and some encouragement and maybe some tips. I know that I need to eat better and workout, but it feels like I am in the same boat I was pre surgery and that I am stuck at this weight forever. It doesn't help that people are constantly asking me how much I have lost and the numbers change so slow that they look at me funny when I say the same number for several weeks. Please Help!!

    Horror Story

Are you kidding me? Everyone knows there are risks. ITS MAJOR SURGERY!!! The fact is, for the people that choose this surgery, the very very small risk is nothing compared to our quality of life, our health and our expected life span. Her situation is not the normal. Perhaps she had a bad doctor, definitely a bad PCP and probably a crappy hospital. I had to have mannnnny classes on this surgery, watch videos, see a psychologist for 2 months, watch videos, and do quizzes. I understood each and every risk and I knew what to look for. If she was having these problems and knew something was wrong, why wasn't she taken to a different hospital after the first failed ER visit. My surgeon does leak tests during surgery. They use a multiple staple line as well as glue. I followed the diet post op so as not to damage the stomach. Who knows what caused the leak, there are many factors into this. The fact is she is a minority in this group and the morbidly obese people need this surgery to save lives.

Hey I see dr ebon bourne for my pcp he is at wellstar acworth family medicine. He is sooo awesome and supportive. He is actually my surgeon's brother in law so he has more knowledge.about the.surgeries than regular pcps.
  4. I can't BELIEVE some of the nasty things people are posting. This is an everyday struggle for ALL of us. If it was not a struggle, then we would have had no problem stopping eating sh** like that chick said, and we would not have had to have the surgery. You have to take it one day, one bite at a time. Just remember that so what if you screw up and eat bread for lunch. Its not the end of the day and the day isn't ruined. Just try to make a better choice next time. We all eat things that we are not "supposed" to eat. Anyone who says they don't is lying. Its called living. This has changed your whole life and you have to figure out how to live with this, so if you have cake once or twice a week, so freaking what. Just have a few bites and move on from it!!!

    Best and worst "compliments"

I freaking HATE this!!! I have had so many nasty people at work say this to me. Sidebar...I TOTALLY wish I didn't tell people at work about my surgery. When they say that I say, eh, nothing a little plastic surgery cant fix...then I will be in a tiny bikini. The girl at work that has been the rudest about it is about 450lbs. I understand jealously, but jeez! She is down right MEAN.
  6. http://www.iceezero.com/ you can print a coupon for $1 off the Icee Zero water drops. The Blue Raspberry is SOOOOO good. That is all I drink in my water. It actually tastes like the ICEEs that I had as a kid.
  7. HI everyone!!! I was sleeved 8-14-13 and weighed 338. When I went in for my first apt with the dr in April I weighed 350. And currently I weigh 323. I am SOOO frustrated and depressed and discouraged...etc. I lost down to 323 at first, then gained to 325, then dropped to 319, now back up to 323. I really just want to sit down and cry. Here is another curveball....I am still breastfeeding a 2 year old. So I am not sure how that is affecting things. It is just so hard knowing I have so much to lose, but am not losing much. I have had to go to the ER 2 x and get fluids for dehydration. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

    Breastfeeding mommas!?

Hi everyone!! I was sleeved on 8/14/2013 and my son was 2 years old and a few weeks. He is now 25 months and I am still breastfeeding!! I did not nurse in the hospital since I thought it would be very hard having him there then having to leave me. I would recommend pumping and sending milk to whoever the baby is going to stay with. I would NOT recommend nursing while you are in the hospital. You will be veryyyy drowsy, sore, and on many medications that need to get out of your system first, also you will need to focus on you and getting in your fluids. I started back nursing my son 3 days after surgery and we just propped the pillow up there and my mom laid him beside me (I do football hold) and we told him over and over to be easy because mommy has a boo-boo and we showed him my bandages. He understood and gave all 5 of my boo-boos kisses . Every time he would nurse he would say, mommy have boo-boos, and I would say that's right, be easy. My surgeon and PCP was all for me bfing after surgery. My NUT was not. I have strong beliefs in BFing and have seen how powerful it is for my son and would advocate for anyone continuing to BF post op.
  10. My psych initially denied me. I was crushed, I mean, a total mess. I wanted this surgery so bad and she was standing in my way. I ended up having to have weekly sessions for 7 weeks and it set my surgery back a month. I actually am glad I had to see her. It really helped me prepare for the surgery. I think if you do get denied, it could only help honestly. I know how bad you want the surgery RIGHT NOW, but I learned a lot from them.
