I’ll be 56 when I have my surgery (my birthday is next week, 1/29) and I know the skin will be horrific, but I’m tackling one issue at a time😁 I figure I sure don’t look good naked now so I’m not losing anything by looking bad naked then, lol.

I had sleeve 10/2013, lost 60lbs, gained it back, had some reflux but not terrible. Was revised to rny 2/12/19, SW 230, CW 190, no complications, no food intolerances that I know of (haven’t had any sugar, Pasta, bread or rice). So far so good.

I believe you will be approved with those issues. Mine showed irritation, but not Barretts, I was approved in a few days, Blue Shield.

I’m still doing great, averaging 3lbs a week. Of course I’d love bigger losses, but I’m constant with 3lbs a week and happy with that.

I’m still very careful. That fear of failure is strong. I just felt so hopeful when I had my sleeve and so disappointed I never got to goal, not even close. I still had 25lbs to go, gained 20lbs, lost 19lbs and the gaining started again. Part of it was that my sleeve was made too large and I never had “easy” weight loss, my tool was broken. I had to fight for every pound lost just like before surgery, but I also reached a point where I gave up (just like all the diets I’d done prior to surgery), so I’ve learned from that. Now I have a tool that works and I’m making damn sure I use it correctly.

I was revised 2/12/19. I was released from the hospital the evening of the day, mostly because I pushed to be released. When I woke up after surgery I was nauseous and dry heaving, but after a couple of hours it passed and I was walking 3 hours later. I was not allowed any liquids or anything until around noon the next day after they did the barium swallow test to make sure there were no leaks. After that they had me slowly introduce Water, gradually adding a bit more each hour and by around 4 they brought me a tray with broth, iced tea and sf Jello. If I could keep a few bites down I was good to go.

I never had narcotic pain meds, just IV tylenol. I really didn’t have much pain but I did get a headache that wouldn’t go away. When I came home I was good, not exhausted like many. I’m not normally a napper and didn’t even nap when lounging around the days after surgery. By 2-3 days home I slept on my side and tummy, was getting in 40oz of Fluid and about 30-40 g of Protein in shakes. I have felt great. Surgery day weight was 230lbs, today I’m at 196.7. I’m getting about 600-700 calories a day in, 50-70g of protein and about 25 carbs. Because I’m a revision I am extra careful about what I’m eating and am on guard about making sure I’m not grazing. I’m determined not to fail this surgery!

Oh no hate here. I’m happy you’re going to hit goal fairly soon. I mean, we all need trailblazers to show us the way and my age, gender, starting BMI, and lifelong history of being a very slow loser are all factors I was aware of coming into this whole thing.
I definitely won’t get there fast, but I will get there. It will be nice to have people standing at the finish line welcoming me home.

    Congrats on breaking that stall!

Today I hit my mini goal of 189lbs! Yay!!

I have not been sticking strictly to plan, bites here and there of things I don’t normally eat, not drinking enough, eating too many calories in nuts and eating too much in general. Today I’m committing to getting in 100oz of Water and cleaning up my eating. Getting back to serious business!!

Sheri you are not a failure! I think you might be going the wrong direction with your calories. With so much exercise you might need to raise them. Your body could be “death gripping” every ounce for survival. Of course it could just be a regular stall with your body adjusting. If that’s the case I really don’t think there’s anything we can do that really “breaks” a real stall.

I reluctantly looked back and I have “only” lost 5 lbs this month, which is down from over 12lbs a month. I’m crossing my fingers to make up a few of those lbs in the days left of May or a least make it up a bit in June. I think it’s just the natural order of things...I sure hope it is anyway.

Had RNY 2/4/19... did very well and no more freeking acid reflux!!! 64 lbs down since the 2nd week of January ( did the liver shrinking diet and to my amazement, I followed it ) and foamies 2xs and dumped once( over a damn Think Thin bar) and I don’t want to do that ever again.. I am great with the Protein thing... middle to fair with Water and awesome with watching carbs.. my surgeon allows fruits and I am now obsessed with my one naval orange a day and pineapple(fresh) and salads.. I haven’t craved much junk but I’m in maine with the kids and I really wanted some of my sons birthday cake but we had a house full and I didn’t want to be rude and be sick so, I didn’t.. everyone’s journey is different, I am COLD ALL the time and I have loose skin and a VERY wrinkly neck but I don’t care.. I wear it with honor because I finally did something positive for myself and I regret NOTHING... food was never the answer to my problems and I hope to stay on track and be a hero in my own life , not a victim .my Daddy passed on March 28th .. 96, he lived with me.. he was very supportive of my surgery.. the night he died I ate a piece of chicken too fast and foamies galore!! It was the last time I turned to food and I’m glad I got sick...I’m changing, I’m a different woman than I was 6 months ago and I plan to be even better next year.. this forum helped so much as I recovered and I’m so grateful!

I am happy to say my stall is broken! Weighed myself today and I dropped almost 10lbs this week!! 😱I went back and tried to focus on getting more Protein and Water in and I finally started back at the gym. Going to keep focusing on the protein and water intake and see if this continues.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement and ideas! Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

    This is absolutely the reason.
My therapist (had bypass over 30 years ago) has told me about several patients of hers that have gained weight after having WLS.
What she tells me is every single time it’s because they didn’t do their head homework.

The science behind this is very real whether you get the sleeve or bypass. You will lose more with bypass— it’s restrictive and malabsorptive. The sleeve is mostly just restrictive. However both procedures share a common component which is the complete metabolic reset.

This reset only lasts a short time though and we all know that as the “honeymoon”. It’s what we do during that honeymoon that determines future success.

I won’t lose as much excess fat as I would’ve had I opted for bypass, but I had to consider my career and lifestyle and many other factors.
I made that choice knowing the weight would come off slower and that hitting goal weight would make me have to work that much harder.

Now maybe someday I will have to have a revision: I had chronic acid reflux and I can potentially see something like that coming back on me in a couple of years, but I wanted to take a chance on the sleeve because I’m pretty active and have an extremely demanding work environment and I needed something “easier” to take care of.
Right now I wasn’t willing to have to worry about dumping or losing even more hair or being chronically tired because maybe I wasn’t absorbing enough nutrients.

Either way I know I’m going to be successful because my head is in the right place and now my body is actually cooperating.

Thank you for the well wishes and on this- I get it, I totally get it! I know these are just numbers and they should not dictate how we feel about ourselves. That is where I teach my daughters but unfortunately I’m not living it. It is a numbers game with this process and we all live it daily. I have been reluctant to share my success because I started out with such a low BMI but I did make the huge sacrifice to pay cash for this surgery in the United States so there is that. I made a decision that was the right one for me and now I am finally looking and feeling the benefits of it. People have started noticing my weight loss now. Before hand even with 30 pounds of weight loss no one was saying anything. Now it’s like I’ve crossed the threshold and people are starting to openly comment. It is the strangest thing. It feels amazing to have other people notice and I am no longer ashamed to go to the pool (even though I am technically not skinny or healthy or anything you would deem attractive relative to our idealization of perfection) but that is fine by me! I am so excited for everyone here and the successes we’ve had!!!

    Congrats! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I totally understand about the wine. Wine was my Achilles heel before and I’m so glad I’ve had the equivalent of 1/2 glass in the 100 days since surgery. I keep telling myself one day I will stop missing it...

My BMI is still in the “obese” category. lol, it’s at 30.4 so I cannot wait to get it down to 29 so I can say I’m merely “overweight” instead of “obese”. Oh well, I started at 41% so I’m already down from “morbidly obese”. Progress

Transforming, I don’t thing most Feb surgeries have lost 70lbs.

I’m a revision from sleeve to rny, 2/12/19, and I’ve lost 40lbs since surgery, 50 including the preop diet. I lost 28lbs in the 6 months leading up to the preop diet though.

It's my exact 3-month surgiversary today! And I almost missed celebrating it due to annoying life dramas I got going on at the moment.
Wishing a happy surgiversary to our triplets (quadruplets??) Marine, Gotta, and... oh, dear. Who else was on the 14th?? My bad!
I'm hoping to break out some before and after pics and potentially some measurements, too. (Probably tomorrow, though... I need hubby to take some pictures!)
I'd love to Celebrate some more 3-month surgiversary stats and NSVs with everyone! How're you all going?

Yep, I seem to have a similar pattern! Plus I've had a couple of wee stalls in there, too. Biggest was around 2-3 weeks... but after that stall, I lost super-quick for a little while.
    It's all swings and roundabouts!
I know we really all know this already, but the most measurable things to control are our habits and behaviours, not our scales! Work on the habits and the thinking and the scales will catch up eventually 🙂

Sheri- maybe it will happen very soon. I’ve said before, my weight loss has a pattern. I lose between 2-4 lbs over 2-3 days, then the next few days I’ll bounce up, come back to my low and then lose again 2-3 days. Even though I know this, I often have to look back at my history to see when the scale dropped last because it can feel like weeks even though it usually only been 5 or 6 days.

Wow guys. So sorry that y’all are feeling sick.

I’m wondering if all of us February peeps are struggling because of the timing of our surgeries and the dread 3 month stall?

If that’s the case, I’m determined to keep plugging away and fall back on non scale victories to get me through this rough spot

Well, after nearly two weeks of stalling at 188, I've lost four pounds in a day. Not sure why it happened, but I'll take it!
My next challenge: I'm turning 60 next week and will going on an Alaska cruise with twelve of my good friends. I actually think that the buffet will be my friend, because I can take only what I can eat of the right things--easier than a sit-down dinner. (I happen to love cold shrimp, and they are usually easy to find on cruises!)
