  1. It’s a special day here at BariatricPal, according to your profile..it’s your birthday. Happy Birthday, jenRRT!

  2. No there's no redness or anything like that. It feels more internal. It's better since I slept and rested last night. I think I might just be overdoing at work like branmuffin said happened to her. I did call the surgeon and I got the nurse but she really didn't seem to be interested and told me if it got to bad to go to the ER. Not happening.
  3. Hi! I am about 1 month post op. I started having these sharp pulling pains in my abdomen under the incision on the right side of my belly button. They're getting so bad that it hurts to even walk. Anyone know what this could be? I called the doctor's office and of course they are taking all freaking day to call me back. Thanks!

    Smoking...ugh!

I had to quit to have surgery but I had to have quit 3 months before. I quit August 8 and they actually blood tested me for nicotine levels every 6 weeks or so. When I think about smoking now, I can't even remember why I did it to begin with. To be totally honest, I feel very liberated! I don't have to worry about whether or not I have enough cigarettes in my pack to make it through the day and if I don't, where am I going to stop. I don't worry about whether or not I have a lighter. I don't care when my kids get out of the car because, before, i couldn't wait so I could light up. I breathe better. I smell better. my husband still smokes. I can't stand the way he smells anymore. Do your lungs a favor and quit! If you're like me, you'll appreciate having something to be proud of yourself for!
  5. I started my liquid diet yesterday and i have the same surgery date as you! I am struggling with this all liquids thing...especially today. I'm working in the PICU and all the nurses and doctors ordered Chinese food! It's all I smell. I'm trying to drink all the Water I can to fill myself up and I just had my second shake of the day....This is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do! Quitting smoking was easier than this. I'm looking up things on the internet about before and after pictures and reading about people's life changes to pass the time and keep my mind off of the intoxicating smell of fried rice! LOL!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi! I got my approval Friday and schedule my surgery date yesterday! I'm all set for December 5! Now I'm excited AND anxious. lol
  7. I got my approval last Friday and scheduled my surgery yesterday. I'm set for December 5.
  8. I'm going to be having the surgery in November. Some of the things I'm looking forward to have already been said, like being able to run around with my 3 boys, fitting in chairs easier, and being healthy. I'm also looking forward to being able to get down the aisle of the school bus when I go on field trips with my boys. Also hoping to lose this hip and lower back pain. Sometimes I feel way older than 33. I'm just so over it!

  10. Thanks for the feedback!
  11. I'm 33 years old and have been obese since I was 22. I have decided as a grown woman to have the gastric sleeve surgery done. I'm am well educated on it and know absolutely without a doubt what I'm doing. My parents feel differently. They feel that I'm taking the "easy way out" and that I'm too young. Every time they try to talk to me about it, it ends in a fight. My husband has been pretty supportive of it...up until a few days ago when my mom told him that she talked to my cousin who also had it done, and he had to be put on Zoloft because he's so depressed! I've never heard of depression being a side effect of this surgery. So now my husband and I argue. I told my mom that unless she had something positive to say to me, I don't want to talk about my surgery decision with her. Well now it appears she's using my husband to try and talk to me. I'm about to throw her off the Superdome!!! So my question is, have any of ya'll experienced depression after surgery??

    I'm at the hospital

You'll do great! You won't remember anything except counting backwards! Good luck! Can't wait for mine!
  13. Thank you all for you advice. And yes, my mom did go to one of the seminars because she needs the surgery more than I do. I don't have the co-morbidities that she has. She's still completely against it. They, however, criticize everything I do including my parenting skills so I guess I should just take it all with a grain of salt.
  14. Hi! I'm having VSG surgery in November just before Thanksgiving. I'm 33 yrs old, I have 3 children, and I'm married. My husband is very understanding and supportive of my decision to have this done. However, my parents do not approve and are trying to talk me out of it. They keep telling me that if I have to make such a big lifestyle change after the surgery, then why do I need to even have the surgery. They don't understand why I'm doing it. Even when I tell them that you eat a lot less with the surgery thus making it easier to KEEP the weight off, they just come back with something else. Did anyone else have this problem? And what do you tell people who are so against you having it? The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if they support me or not. I'm having it done. It would just be a lot easier if they were.
  15. Hi! I'm also having the surgery in November, right before Thanksgiving! I agree, it's going to suck this year. Christmas too. I think eating pretzel's in front of the computer is not that bad. You could be sitting there eating Lay's potato chips or Doritos or something like that!
