I had to go to countless classes, support groups and a nutritionist before the surgery, it was all ingrained in my brain before I went in. Didn't you have to jump through firey hoops like myself in order to get the surgery? I did everything in a matter of 2 months, but it was A LOT!

You have friends here! Your family's attitude is probably the reason you got so heavy in the first place!!! Steer clear of them every opportunity that you get. Make new friends, see if any of us on here live close to you - start a new thread for this. Also, YOU are the master controller of your body, don't forget that. As far as having no hope...??? You are on your way to a Master's Degree which is an accomplishment that many people around you can't say that they have attained!!!!!!!! Your life is going to get better, I ASSURE you that this is only a temporary situation and you will be in a much better place sooner than you think. Pease stay focused on what you need to do for your health, you will figure that out. You also need to realize that "depression" itself will make you gain weight no matter how little you eat, so get out there and walk away the sadness!
    WE are here for you.

It's weird but I actually have more energy than I did before. The high Protein is key! Before the sleeve I was a healthful eater, but I didn't always eat enough or ate too much at one time. I had severe sciatic nerve pain and had to stop my 5 mile a day walks. Now I am up to 3.5 miles a day, no back pain, and only 12 days in! So happy I can walk more than half a block!!!
It's amazing how much energy you'll have for not eating food!

I am definitely a "slow" loser, but I am VERY HAPPY with my weight loss! 33 pounds down since June 18th, and about 52 pounds from highest weight. I eat clean, healthy food 95% of the time (cheat day is on Sunday); one hour of cardio 5-6 days a week; weight lift 2 days a week (I want to do more, but difficult with schedule), divided by upper body and lower body, heavy weight/low reps, both isolation and compound lifts.
I LOVE my sleeve, LOVE the restrictions, and I especially LOVE that when I do occasionally slip the bad stuff, I'm full after 3-4 bites!
(Picture is of my highest weight and of me today, 8 weeks 5 days post-op)

You know if you cheat, you are just cheating yourself, right? If you are not going to listen to your surgeon's advice, don't whine when your weight loss slows or stalls. Or when the food comes back up.
I am always thirsty when I eat, especially when I finish. But when I was cheating with a few sips during meals, I found that I could eat more and was hungry quicker. Now I set my phone alarm for 30 min after eating and do something else. I find that the thirst passes, and by the time the alarm goes off I often forget to get something to drink.
As long as you get your liquids at other times, you really can forgo the drinking 30 min before and after meals. Try it and see if you don't eat less and remain satisfied longer.

You aren't alone! It is because most of us have tried EVERYTHING and it didn't work, so we think we are the one exception to the rule and that we will always be overweight and doomed for life. I was CONVINCED it didn't work. About week 3 I had a stall and I was like "see....it didn't work and I'm gonna be fat forever!" then the next week I lost 9 pounds. I have lost 29 pounds in 6 weeks thank you Jesus! You will lose, but don't expect it to be all at once or like 50 pounds in a month which is what I was led to believe from my time spent on VST! You will do great!

It just seems that we put our body in starvation mode and the weight will hold tight. I have never been an exerciser, i realize I will have to make new habits. But around 800 calories a day, I think I may be too weak to exercise?

I think that in the first few months, you really have to work hard at eating all the wrong things to not lose weight. Physically, there is only so much space in your sleeve for food, so it is almost a guarantee that you will lose. However, if you do not change your lifestyle by adding in exercise and completely change your food choices and eating habits, and eat the same way after surgery that you did before surgery, then the surgery will not work. It is merely a tool to get you started on a new path, but you have to put in the work and make many changes and sacrifices to see big and permanent results.

I think there are many of us that had that same fear...it is understandable given the countless times we have "failed" in the past. You can do it...you will do it...and you will love it.

It seems you need to be more surrounded by positive & supportive people. If your surgeon is near you, maybe his program offers a support group that is free. Or, maybe there is a local meeting of overeaters anonymous, also free. You mentioned that you pray to God...so I also suggest getting involved in a church. Create your own, new family. You cut loose the bad boyfriend, it is time to realize your parents are damaging to you as well. Dont let ANYONE stand in the way of what you really want!!!

Girl, you've got to pull yourself together. You have done an amazing job over the course of this past year. YOU have done that, no one else did that for you. YOU made the choice. We all have **** going on in our lives, but you have to decide for yourself that you are worth it, and you are worth it! Go back to basics. Get in your exercise. Don't let your family sabotage your efforts - YOU ARE TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Keep a positive attitude and do your best to drink your liquids in the hospital as soon as you are awake so that you can go home asap. Ice chip help with inflamation too! Walk as soon as they let you, and do it as often as they will allow. I also opted for NO pain killers, such as morphone etc, they just make you sleepy and slow down healing. I had no pain, just soreness. You're going to be happy that you did it!
Have someone bring you crosswords, book/magazines or a laptop if you have one, it does get pretty boring and there's usually nothing on TV during the day that's worth watching! They wouldn't let me bring anything with me, but someone could bring stuff after I was out of recovery.
    Much luck to you!

pudding and yogurt was on my full Proteins list and I am the foamie queen.
I would say the Protein powder made it way too heavy. I don't see a problem with the quantity you ate, but the weight of it. Why did you eat the second time? Were you hungry or just trying to finish it? That's been a big thing for me to overcome and I've finally given myself permission NOT to finish my plate (and my kids' and my husband's and the leftovers and what's on the serving spoon and ...)
I have no problem putting a yogurt back in the fridge for lunch or even the next day. It's very empowering to control your portions instead of having the food control you.
Do not drink when you have the foamies. That will only increase the time it takes to go away as well as your discomfort. In fact, if I drink when I have the foamies, I vomit it all up.
If you are a foamer, you'll figure it out. It's not fun, but it's kind of funny.
