lilijo got a reaction from ceyanne in Is the sleeve safe long term?
Two years ago, I was two weeks away from getting sleeved. I let my fear and doubt get the best of me and I backed out. Thought I'd give it one more try. Guess what, I failed again! Last October, I finally got sleeved. This time I was sure - I wasn't nervous or fearful. I had faith in my surgeon and my decision. Best decision ever! I only had 54 lbs to lose and I've lost 53. 1 lb to go! I'm still losing and will probably pass goal. It's a lot of work and dedication, but totally worth it.

Definitely not too old! I'm 65 and was sleeved 7 months ago. Best decision ever! Love my sleeve!

My grandmother lost 2/3 of her stomach to cancer when she was in her late 40's. She died at 88 and never had any issues related to her stomach.

He'll to the no! I never ever want my weight back. I look too damn good when fully clothed. Only one person sees me naked, and he's not complaining.

lilijo got a reaction from Paloma68 in I want to hear from others with a lower BMI pre-op
I'm almost 5'1" and weighed 184 at my heaviest, bmi just under 35. At 10 months post op and down 55 lbs and have passed my surgeon's goal as well as my personal goal. Weight loss seems slower if you only look at pounds lost, but percentage of excess weight loss is not. I couldn't be happier with my decision. It has truly changed my life for the better. I have body issues because of my bat wings and midriff roll, but it's a small price to pay. It seems the whole process is easier for those with lower bmi's.

I was sleeved 8/18. Tomorrow is four weeks post-op.
At this point, life is starting to absorb more of my attention (compared to the first few weeks of "the sleeved life" when all I thought about was meal-planning, sipping Water, recording food/drink, etc.). Now I sometimes I forget that I can't eat more than 2-4 ounces at a time. And when I remember my sleeve and restriction, I am absolutely thrilled!
I know that over time my restriction will lessen and I'll be able to eat more at a single sitting than now (although never as much as I once did). But for now, this is working for me.

15 month checkup today and have gotten better at maintaining my 132 pounds lost. Size 10 is loose. Still a lot of back pain but I have dumped the cane. I figure if I fall now, someone should be able to help me up, instead of calling for two firemen.
Almost 68 years old - not a whole new life, but definitely a new lease on the one I have and love.
Spent an entire lifetime fat. I can only wonder why. What is there about my physical/psychological profile that kept me imprisoned inside that mountain?

Ok, so let me first explain the two circumstances that came together that day to create the "Litter Box Incident"....
    1) when I had C. diff, my BM's consisted of a severe, painful cramp, followed by projectile, watery diarrhea approximately 5-10 seconds later. This occurred 15-20 times a day at the height of my infection. No way to either predict or prevent the chain of events.
    2) I am a vet tech/partner in a mobile veterinary practice. It's just me and the vet. Our mobile unit is basically like a 25 foot RV. We took the toilet out years ago in order to convert the tiny "bathroom" into a storage closet.
Despite my preference to camp out in my own bathroom for the day, I ended up having to work. My vet had just had a hysterectomy and was laid up on her couch. One of our clients called to say she was out of pain meds for her dog that was recovering at home with a broken pelvis. I had no choice but to venture out. I made the 20 minute drive to her house without incident (whew!). But as I was getting up her pain meds, I was consumed with the tell-tale cramp. Knowing I had about 5 seconds before you know what, I grabbed a litter box out of the cupboard, dropped my drawers and squatted. I'm just glad the client didn't come in!
And who said pooping can't be fun?

Just a quick update...surgery went well. Everything went smoothly. My surgeon did a great job, the facility was wonderful, and my recovery is crawling along. Still pretty weak and gassy, but I've come to expect I'm right about where I should be on day 5.

lilijo reacted to jjinWA in Dr. Jalil Illan with Baja Bariatrics and Omar Acosta - A Warning
I am very sorry for all the victims who fell under Omar's spell. Yes, they are all adults and their is some culpability here for all parties involved. But with that said, no one should be made fun of when they have been maybe a bit vulnerable and have been taken advantage of. I understand that many might see this post as inappropriate, but I wish to think the poster meant no direct disrespect to these ladies, but instead was trying to shed light on the character of Omar in a more light hearted manner.
Omar is a bad act, so much so that my daughter and I cancelled her surgery with Dr. Illan, which was scheduled for July 22 because of the negative light that has been shown on Omar via this thread. I hope others have followed through with cancellations and have selected other surgeons because of Omar's actions. Maybe that is the only way you will get Dr Illan's attention.... Through his pocketbook.
Linda, even though I am not a veteran on this site, having only joined last April ( not sure how many posts I have in my count, but I am sure you will look it up), I would only ask that you allow all opinions to have value on this site regardless of when they joined. Surely you are not so arrogant to think that only the 'veterans' have any real value here. Or is it they only have value if they agree with you. We all value the advice, feedback, etc that the veterans share with us, but your continued slam to those who are considered newbies in your eyes is inappropriate. Lori may have joined yesterday for all that matters, but her opinion and others who are new should not be downgraded simply because they are not worthy of the 'veteran' status. You slammed me in another thread because it was of an opinion different then yours and quickly informed me that my comment was of no worth because I joined in April. I take no personal offense when others do not agree with my opinions, but I do take it personal when you downgrade me simply because I am a newbie. I am sure you will have a sweeping negative response to this because that is what you and a few of your cronies do, and I will weather those negative hits just as I did in the other thread you slammed me on, (sigh) and as before, I will continue on reading and responding at will to all the fabulous discussions held on this forum. Your opinion is not necessarily the ultimate answer, though valuable I think it may be. :-). Bariatric pal is an awesome site and holds a great deal of information for all of us, because of the opinions that are shared by ALL, not just the Oldtimers.
In the future, please feel free to disagree with posters, especially on threads so important as this one. Just do it without personally slamming the newbie. That is when it gets offensive. At least it was for me.
