Thank you! I know I won't do it but I have to make the choice and remember that I'm a "good times" eater. My emotional eating only happens when happy things or events are going on. I guess I must be a very happy person since my weight is what it is

I went out for Mexican with my family the week before surgery. I had the chicken Soup, ate only the broth, and had an unsweetened iced tea.
You can do this. Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean you get a free pass.
My birthday's coming up later this month and I will still be on all liquids. You know what? It's ONE day. It's just a day. I'm going to get a pedicure and call it even.
    Good luck.

meamo reacted to lestudi in Mom was supportive at first but questioning things now....
Yes. I had the same kind of thing happen to me. My surgery was October 21 of this year, and up until then I had been planning to get this surgery for about two years now. I had friends and family who were totally supportive until the last minute, and then some people who were supportive the whole time. I found that the people most argumentative about the procedure were the ones that were very ignorant on the surgery itself, the statistics, the success stories, and just information in general. My sister, who is in the medical field told my mom to tell me a few days before to warn me that my stomach could stretch and that I could also experience a stomach rupture. I had people at work, saying, "Well, do you know that you have to eat healthy afterwards? Can you do that?" It infuriated me! What?! I have to eat healthy afterwards? Why don't they tell you that? (sarcasm) Now, two weeks out, back to work after one week, and 15 lbs lost, I get the last laugh because they are all like, "Wow! You were right! It's amazing how fast you recover and how well it's working!" Don't get discouraged. I even doubted myself a few days after surgery, laying in bed thinking, "Why didn't I listen to the people that warned me? Why did I do it?" But, that went away VERY quickly after all the pain meds wore off, and I was up and about and feeling great! I'm still getting used to what and how I can eat, but I've stuck with Soups, yogurt, Protein Shakes, and oatmeal for the most part. I get full very quickly and I can actually go a whole day at work, with just a Protein Shake and some oatmeal, without feeling starved! Everyday, it becomes more natural to me, almost like I never even got surgery. The pain is NOTHING! And, with each pound lost, and each extra inch of loose clothing, the motivation and resolve that you've made the right decision really sinks in! Your mom will be supportive. Some people just have to see it to believe it! You'll make her a believer. You can do it, and you'll be SO glad you did!

Today starts my journey of 10 days of Clear liquids before surgery. I have been up for 4 hours and so far so good. I had a bottle of Water, a very small bowl if green Jello, a carton of muscle milk (per my doctors orders) a cup of coffee (first day without cream) and working on a cup if hot tea. I can do this!! Praising God for strength and a sound determination!!
This morning I weighed, took my measurements and my husband took pictures of me in a sports bra and sweat pants. Right now I am to embarrassed to post but I hope someday to show my before and amazing after!
    Rocking on till November 15th!!

meamo reacted to wildwest in 3 months post-op, Salt Lake City - Dr. Volckmann
This Friday will be exactly 3 months since my surgery. View my profile to read my story leading up to surgery.
Results have been really good. Before meeting Dr. Volckmann, I weighed around 340 pounds. Through the pre-op diet, I lost about 19 pounds. The morning of the surgery I weighed 321 pounds. I am proud to say that 3 days shy of the 3 month mark, that I now weigh 270 pounds. I will get a Bod Pod assessment this Friday so I can finally have an accurate number to aim towards as my end goal.
I wish that I took body measurements, because that is where the real story is. Before surgery, I was wearing size 3xl and some 4xl shirts. I am now comfortably wearing size 2xl shirts. Before surgery, I was wearing size 44 pants that had adjustable waist bands. I am now comfortably wearing size 40 pants and thinking that size 38 is just around the corner.
Medically, my latest A1C number (taken about 4 weeks ago) is 5.4. My blood sugar is hovering around 100-105. My cholesterol looks good and I am going to ask for permission to go off simvastatin. I am on my last high blood pressure medication and I am hoping to drop that in the next month or so.
I follow my post-op diet rigorously. In fact, I may be a little too strict. I see the results and that keeps me motivated. I work out every morning and night. That includes attending cross fit. I haven't been healthier in the past 20 years.
My work has greatly improved. I am in a job where I have to think on my feet. My confidence has skyrocketed. In fact, I recently ran into a woman that I went to high school with over 20 years ago. Age has been very gentle to her beauty. I took a gamble and asked her out. We have been dating ever since that day. She cannot believe my weight loss, but has been very supportive of my workout and eating manners/schedule.
A couple of pieces. From my original story, I talked about going to the surgery alone. I strongly advise against that. Take a friend or family member. That was a mistake on my part. It appears that all of my insurance details have finally been taken care of. My out of pocket is $5K plus a lot of travel and hotels (Dr. Volckmann is a 5 hour drive from where I live).
Bottom line. I am happy to have had the surgery and I consider myself lucky in finding Dr. Volckmann and his terrific staff for this journey.

This year has flown by! I have come
long way and sometimes have to look at pictures to remind myself where I started. I was talking to a friend and she told me that I don't give myself enough credit, I never have even before the weight loss. When I look in the mirror I don't see what everyone else sees. Is it that way for any of you? I pick up smaller clothes and am always totally shocked when they fit. I've gone from a size 28 to an 18/20.

It has been a LONG 18 months filled with self discovery, pain and triumph! I did not follow program 100% and lost at my own pace. It took me over 12 months to get close to goal (still 15lbs away!). Really wanted to provide some encouragement to anyone struggling at first or questioning this choice. Still THE BEST thing I've ever done!

I haven't sleeved yet, but I know the things I would appreciate is:
    1) able to walk, climb stairs and dance without feeling light headed/dizzy, chest pains and breathing hard.
    2) more energy at home and work
    3) able to paint my toe nails on my own without feeling like I am breaking my legs.
    4) eating healthier
    5) crossing my legs
    6) clothes fitting
That is all that comes to mind now, but I know after surgery and a couple of months other things I don't realize now will become apparent to me.
    Looking forward to being sleeved!

This past week, I was a little frustrated with my recent progress. I was "venting" to my husband and he simply asked if I regretted having WLS. I instantaneoulsy answered "NO!!!" It was then that I decided I would start a list of all of the "little things" that I love about the new and ever improving ME! Even though my current weight after losing 60+ pounds is more than the starting weight of some, I do have lots of "little things".
    1. I don't have to get a bouncing start to bend over to pick something up off of the floor...I can reach!
    2. My knees don't ache.
    3. I don't have to suck in my gut to get my pants zipped.
    4. I am more energetic and active....I participate instead of watch.
    5. I am eating better and feel better.
    6. I am actually looking forward to shopping and pampering myself when I get closer to my goal.
    7. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that when I do overindulge and have a little moment of weakness, my sleeve gives me a little reminder of when to stop (no more binge eating for me!)
There are SO MANY more, but this is a start! What about you? What are some of the little things you love about your sleeve?
I am going to keep a running list to help serve as a reminder when I am having "one of those days"......
