Tripletmom got a reaction from Getting Wispy in Self pay sleevers: BMI of 30 or close
Thanks all, I'm sorry if I came off snarky; I just don't want to be judged because of a lower BMI even though I am in the 'obese' category and going up.... I have been judged so much for my yo-yo dieting over the years as well as inability to keep my weight off. I have been on RX diet pills for YEARS (which can't be good for my heart) as well as over exercising etc... I can't keep up with the roller coaster. It's physically and emotionally worn me out, as well as being a mother to special needs triplets, plus 3 step children! While my BMI may be low-ish now for WLS, it keeps creeping up. I am doing this now, so that I remain a consistent weight. I need this tool because I can't manage it any other way. My doctor is actually in Dallas not Mexico. But I think this forum is for self pay as well.
I am, just as we all are, looking for acceptance, support and answers on this emotionally trying journey towards greater health.
Being sleeved in two days, and as ready as I will ever be.

Thanks to you who responded with actual, personal help.
I am fully aware of all the pros and cons of the sleeve (and surgery in general) and will be sleeved soon. This tool will allow me to finally get control over my weight battles. Every choice has a down side. This is the tool I have chosen for me after careful thought and consideration.
Chickenlittle, I figured there would be some judgement. Ironic that those with high BMI's who have been judged all their lives, presumably, would choose to turn around judge someone who was not 'obese' enough. How silly.

Hey all! I had my sleeve done in Dallas about 3 weeks ago. I had a complication. The surgeon damaged part my spleen and I was in the hospital for 5 days. I'm 100% better now. Surgery was totally worth it, even with the complication.
    Just weighed today and I am 159. Goal #1 is 140 Goal #2 130 ultimate goal weight # 120.

I feel your pain, I received a small gorgeous flour-free chocolate cake for my birthday last night at this place a friend and I went to and I was suppose to give it to my friend. I just realized that now that I home and unpacked that she didn't take it with her. It was calling me, I smelt it and then I ate it. So far 3/4 of it is gone , I couldn't eat it all at once but I did keep going back. So far no physical problems just mental.
Did I just screw everything up and is this a beginning of a downward spiral? I know I am just beating myself up right now and venting my concerns. Tomorrow is a new day and I will get back on track and be stricter with myself than I was today.
If you have negative comments don't bother replying, because I know. Just need chin up kinds of things.

Hey all! I was a lightweight as well and got sleeved on 7/24. Wanted to update you all on my surgery, which was done in Dallas, TX. I had spleen complications and lost 25% of my spleen due to the surgery complications. It was the most pain I have ever felt in my life (and I have triplets so I know pain, lol). HOWEVER, I am totally fine now, after the 5 day hospital stay and I would still do the surgery. I'm told this is not common at all, but that it can and does happen.
Word to future sleevers: If you feel abnormal pain post surgery, DON'T IGNORE IT!!!! Don't let them tell you it's 'bad gas pain' I lost part of my spleen because of this, and had to be an emergency hospital admit. You know your body, they don't.
You all will do fine, just listen to your own body. If you feel something is wrong, don't stop asking until they take you seriously.

I am afraid I won't loose weight, I'm afraid food will never taste good, I'm afraid my relationships with my family and friends will change.
Ok so last night I attended my first sleeve support group. At first I was freaked out.
Then I realized, this is me being normal for
Me. Of course I'm freaked out, and food and my relationship to it and my people will be different. Yup. And everything changed when I got sober years ago, and I'm alive and thriving and relatively happy as a result. This is similar. (deep sigh). So for today, I'm cool.
    Love you guys.

Yep...had lots of doubts...even the morning of surgery I almost backed out but I am SO glad I went through with it. I was so nervous that I even told my daughter (23) that one regret I would have had if there would have been major problems was that I wouldn't be able to see her trying on wedding gowns (and she doesn't have a steady boyfriend)...so we spent the day before my surgery trying on wedding gowns...lol.
I have been very fortunate with no complications and no sickness or lack of energy...I have felt great almost from day one. This has been such a blessing for me and for the first time in my life, I see light at the end of the tunnel...not only do I think I can lose the weight but for the first time I believe I will be able to keep it off.
Everyone has to make their own decision...but the morning of my surgery everyone came in and told me what a great surgeon I had and that calmed my fears quite a bit.
Good luck with whatever you decide...but for me it was the best decision I have made

No! You are not alone I have doubts every other day, and on the days I don't have doubts, someone else in my life has them. What I have found, is that when I talk to the other people having doubts, I end up reassuring myself that i'm doing the right thing.

Just checking in on the lightweight thread - my original personal goal was 120. I met that goal and have continued to lose weight. I know I say this quite often - I am SO HAPPY I had this surgery before I gained more weight. It has been relatively easy for me after the surgery. I had surgery on 9/10/12 - and I imagine that I will be 115 by my one year surgery date. I still have no hunger and still can't eat very much. I can definitely eat more than I could a few months ago but because my cravings and tastes have changed I am not tempted as much anymore. However, I still have a sweet tooth - last week I was in a meeting and they had Desserts. I did get one but I was only able to eat half of it. It was so sweet that after the first few bites I could only taste sugar so it wasn't very appetizing. Good luck to us all for continued success
