  1. POST OP DAY 5 Well a couple of things that I have noticed thus far I’m able to tolerate the liquids just fine but I’m not drinking much protein, it feels me up and makes my mouth super dry,and then I cramp even worse. I have been doing 2 much I live upstairs on the second floor and have to walk up and down to get to my car . I have had a few sleepless nights where I only napped for about 30 mins to an hour, so I have started taking the max dosage of pain meds allowed by the doctor. Somehow I even brought home a superficial blood clot in my right arm. It’s not a DVT so it should go away on its own in a couple of weeks. My mood has been pretty bad at times because I’m still in a lot of pain and I’m one of those people that just has to be doing something or I get to anxious, and my anxiety kicks in. I do not have any hunger pains the gas pain is starting to decrease now but it’s still there. Overall I’m starting to feel better and hopefully soon I will be able to get back on track with what the dietician and the doctor want but until then I’m taking it easy and doing less at this point is more comfortable for me, then straining and stressing myself over everything else. This has not been an easy journey for me or my wife she is 30 days post op and I know my last week at home has made her see me in a new light, and I hope she will just look over my bad habits, and love me regardless.
  2. Thanks I'm to turn over on my left side with pain but its only day 5. I heard about those bears wish I had one.
  3. Hello everyone, just posting 48 hours after my surgery I'm in a lot of pain, I have been doing a lot of walking in between naps. I'm not able to turn on my left or right I can only lay straight on my back and the pain is extreme but manageable with the meds. My stomach muscles hurt so bad at times. When I first awoke from surgery the gas pain was so bad I just wanted to walk and get it to move down . The more I walk the better it helps . Its a slow boogie to healing but its only 48 hours rt now. So just wanted to check in and give an update.
  4. Well Monday July 29th, is my surgery date scheduled for 0800 hours, and I'm still trucking a long with my pre op diet. I can say that I have almost lost approximately 30 lbs, and I still have about a day and half to go. This has truly been hard. My surgeon doesn't allow Protein shakes for the last 2 days and I have been drinking the clear ISO PURE protein and there is a big difference. With the Protein Shakes I didn't really feel weak, but with the straight clear protein my blood is so cold and I'm freezing no matter what I do it seems. I'm trying to figure out should I just try and sleep all day and night on Sunday, or just sit up all night, awww, I haven't felt this crazy since I took a state exam 5 years ago. Everything seems to be going good but I have been an ass to deal with . Oh well I didn't give up and I'm still committed to my new life and I'm looking forward to being healthier. I keep watching the clock and patiently waiting ..... If your having surgery Monday hang in there I'm be right there with you. Only 4 more weeks to real food, lol ): :........... God bless.
  5. I just finished my pre op and it was hard but I did loose 32lbs....... Good luck all

    Aetna and co-morbidity

I thought I was going to be denied because the clinic I went through to do my testing at called True Results in Texas stated that my BMI had changed through out the years and they were not sure I could be approved. What you have to go by for your BMI is your current BMI and compare it to what the govt says should be your ideal weight. This would also help to get you the surgery if you are within the govt guidelines of obese. All you can do is try because according to True Results I didn't meet all Aetna's guidelines and I was approved on my first submit. Good luck.
  7. Thank you I'm up and 3 hours till I have to get ready to leave and I have so much anxiety and nervous. I'm excited but I'm so anxious.
  8. This has not been easy at all, but I have noticed I'm breathing a lot better. Today I'm very nauseated, and bunch of stomach cramps but the journey of the pre op is over and in the morn my new life begins. Nervous but ready .
  9. Hi Amy , the Iso Pure is not to bad at this point when you are on a liquid diet almost anything is more than tolerable. The Iso Pure is a great health product and you will deafintley have some bowel movement with this product. The Iso pure dos slow down the hunger but its a huge mental thing. I can't believe that I went to bed and did not wake up starving to death. I'm almost afraid to see what will happen now that I will be working myself back up to food. I can only imagine how you feel going to Mexico, just hang in there.
  10. Thank you , yes I believe you are right I have lost another 2 lb, and my total weight loss is down 31 lbs just in 2 weeks this pre op diet has made me feel like an ice berg after I stop moving around.

    I am soooo stinking NERVOUS!

Hey my surgery date is on the 29th and I have all of those same concerns, but if its my time to go I trust in God and I'm willing to go where ever I'm called . I have had some great pre op weight loss results almost 30lbs ,and I day and half to go. I will keep you in my prayers when I go to bed. I'm so mad at myself for my health choices but I do understand it was all my fault and no one else. I know this surgery is best for me because I have been that loyal person to diet and eat properly work out, I paid for high priced foods like Nutrisystem and even had better success doing it naturally but I gained it all back. So I'm great at dieting but trying to keep it off I'm not good at that at all.
  13. My wife's surgery from beginning to end took less than 1 hour, and I'm sure mine will take the same. Good luck
  14. I used to be so addicated to sugar every Sunday I used to eat donuts on top of donuts and a steak and egg bagel from Mickey D's. I used to think I was living the good life,lol.....

    Hospital Pre-Op Done!

Congrats to you Kim, I'm having my surgery on Monday the 29th and I did my labs on Thursday. I'm feeling the same way as you are now. God bless and good luck.
  16. To be honest I started drinking a lot of teh sugar free low calorie drinks liek powerade, and others and my caffeine cravings were gone about the 3rd or 4th day in my pre op diet. I had a sugar free red bull habit ,and diet dr pepper, along with other caffeine habit. With time the cravings faded away.
  17. Hello everyone, my pre op diet starts on this Monday and my gastric sleeve surgery is on 07/29/2013. I have to do a liquid diet that includes upto 3 protein shakes a day and a I can have soup. This is going to be hard for me but my wife has already had her surgery, and I must admit it was no fun to watch her struggle, but now my time is just around teh corner. I'm ready to reintroduce myself to food again and hopefully start this relationship the right way. Anyone else going in on the 29th for surgery?

    Pre op diet start Monday

My pre op diet is a 14 day diet with liquids and authorized bowl or can of soup, only restriction stay away from creamy Soups and basil. I’m scheduled for my Gastric sleeve on 07/29/2013 I’m currently on week 2 day 10 OF 14. A few things I have noticed during my pre op diet Day 1,of my actual diet was quite easy because the day before I started, I ate several large meals that consisted of a bunch of Protein and salad type veggies, with very little carbs for example I had taco salads with no tortilla(s) or chips. So on my first day of liquids I spent a lot of time in the Restroom taking care of business because of the large meals. Day 2-4 I found myself battling with the temptation of cheating with cheat meals, only to then start battling with myself on what type of cheat meal to eat. I was goggling every web site and ad I could find on how many people cheated on their diet, what they ate, did their surgeries go ok, and etc. The majority of information I found that people were cheating and still made it successfully through their surgeries. No one that cheated badly even reported they didn’t have their surgery. Some people had binges and ate like the surgery was a funeral for food. I did cheat on my 6th day; I gave in to my mental distress of not having what I wanted. For my cheat meal I had a light chicken salad instead of dressing I had salsa to replace it. At this point I figured hey I really need this because I’m oh so hungry and I can’t go on. Well this couldn’t be farther from the truth in reality I only wanted to cheat because I’m an emotional eater. I was bored stuck at the hospital with my wife the night before and the stress of everything was piling on top of me. I also found out by goggling in different states various surgeons were requiring little to no pre op diets. So how dare they put us on this crazy diet (lol)? I wondered with me drinking a bunch of fluids and having no solid food for 2 weeks really that healthy for me, in my opinion it’s no more healthier than the taco salad I ate, and it’s no healthier than the guy or girl who has that binge meal every night because the depression of being overweight, and their dissatisfied with their quality of life, I included. So my food addiction like so many others have made us seek out a surgery that lowers the appetite, our intake of food, strict guidelines on when we can advance our diets. So why was I so shocked and paranoid about a simple diet, lord knows if someone told me that I would need to eat a medium pizza, drink several beers ,and eat various sweets like cakes or ice cream for 2 weeks straight I would be like you’re crazy. Why would I eat all that unhealthy food on purpose. So the pre op diet is not that bad in my opinion, is it hard hell yes, can someone really do it yes you can, why, because your new life depends on you, and the food choices you make. The pre op diet in my opinion is more mental than physically damaging. I believe this because my ego, my man hood was challenged because I had to be told what I could eat and drink , this just can’t be right because I’m my own boss right (lol)? Not so fast remember I’m the guy who got me into these bad eating habits and I was the one who was so quick to look for an excuse to blame my mental health, my work conditions, the bad news I got, and that failed promotion that didn’t go through. At the time these excuses seemed to make so much sense to me. But 10 days later now my Food detox is complete , my caffeine detox is complete but I’m not cured by a long shot. Since day 8 I have removed my soup and just made it with all liquids and Protein shakes. So it was and is all in my mind that I just couldn't do this 2 week liquid pre op diet. My starting weight was 316 lbs and day ten I’m down to 289 lbs, with only light walking as exercise. 4 more days to go and I’m actually looking forward to it. I have had a lot more energy than I have had in years, my head is a lot clearer, I even have more patience with people than usual. This by no means is something I (us) could do for life, but two weeks no problem. I’m excited about changing my life in a positive direction and welcome the new relationship with food. So stay busy and don’t stress about the diet just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. I’m doing it and you can to.

    Fail psych exam?

No you shouldn't be denied unless you just don't want to make a lifestyle change. The purpose of the exam is just to ensure that you understand what you are getting yourself into. Just my opinion the exam is a waste of money. Example if a person is depressed and suicidal because of their appearance, and wants to have the surgery to better their appearance and loose weight , then its most likely they would not kill themselves. Wanting to change is positive, and shows that you want to live. It is just another way the insurance company can get your money. So relax and don't sweat it.My insurance required I had the exam and it was really pointless and not bad at all.
