Gardengirl reacted to LipstickLady in Those who say they can only eat 2 or 3 bites ?
I am 3 1/2 months out and for dinner tonight I ate 1 oz of grilled pork loin. It was about 4 or 5 finger nail sized bites. Lean Protein fills me up really fast.
For lunch today, I was out with friends at a Mexican restaurant. I ate the meat from the taco, about 1/8 cup of the Beans and two tortilla chips. I made this (MAYBE) 1/4 cup of food the whole lunch, so it was a lot of bites and I know I overdid it.
My food ability varies wildly, but I can rarely eat more than 7 or 9 baby bites, using a baby spoon or cocktail fork. Probably 2-3 bites in my pre-sleeved life. It's pretty pathetic, but I'm thrilled.

    Hi Lunaya,
The best I can suggest is finding a counselor that deals with disorder eating. And find a support person or talk it out here...
I am a binger too, this surgery does not stop me.
Pain? I ate until pain before having this done, so the pain of eating to much isn't really a deterrent now, if I'm feeling a binge I will eat until I can't anymore then wait and eat again.
What stops me now? I am honest with anyone who will listen. I come here and tell the ugly truth about what I'm feeling with food and emotions.
And at home I tell my husband now EVERYTHING. So he knows when I'm having a rough time. I still fall sometimes.
Last week he left for a few minutes and I ran into the kitchen and stuffed a whole Protein bar in my face while he was gone (I'm a sneak eater)
But after, I came clean and told him what i did. so it's not a secret I talk about what I was feeling when it happened.

When I was in the hospital getting sleeved I swore I wouldn't get on the scale until my two week post op appt. ha! I get on every single morning. Well, I skipped one morning and actually felt nervous, like, the pounds were going to magically creep up bc I didn't keep them in check. I like your son's insight. I also like the NSVs that people report bc those are what we should all be the most proud of.

oh yes. soon you will be dreaming of the food you want, but can't have. I think we're on such low rations, that it's not unreasonable or unhealthy for our bodies to start feeling hungry a few days after post-op. It's logical, and it's what keeps us from dying of starvation. Your body is doing what it needs to in order to flag you down and get your attention. That too is normal.
I do get hungry now, but it's reasonable hunger. As in, "It's been 3 hours and I only ate two ounces then so OF COURSE I'm hungry type of hunger, not the "I think I'll have a piece of cake for funsies" type of hunger. It's a "FEED ME NOW!" vs. a "hmm. what sounds good?" And that's a good thing. Don't stress about it.

Happy to report that for me, day 5 post-op I have had very little "ugly". First day I was nauseas and had hard hunger pangs. But once they adjusted my meds and I stopped the pain pump, I felt really good. No gas pains, no Constipation, no drain, thankfully. Walk walk walk. I've been home two full days and have walked a mile each day. I have no trouble drinking 64 plus ounces of Fluid and have managed 50 or so grams of Protein in liquid form daily. I am surprised how good I feel so far. I wish the same for everyone!!

I think when people say that, they don't realize how hard we struggle to stay at that weight. When my previous insurance lady to,d me I didn't weigh enough, in was like, "honey tell me how much I need to gain, because I sure can do it!"

Gardengirl reacted to gamergirl in Crab cakes as sliders?
Okay I know what happened. I'm posting my learning to share with you guys. I ordered a crab cake again tonight and felt the restriction after 2 oz. You want to know the difference? Two words.
    Mindful eating.
It was driving me nuts so I thought about what happened yesterday. How could I feel the restriction with everything except crab cakes??
Yesterday I ate while on the phone, as I was presenting to 2 clients during a 2-hour meeting. I didn't think I was doing this, but I suspect I ate little bites and continued potentially for well over an hour in little bits and bobs. In retrospect, I could only eat while they were asking questions, so it had to have been spread out.
Tonight I went out for dinner, took small bits, chewed carefully, but paid attention to the food, even though we were chatting. And stopped 20 mins into it because I felt the restriction.
My doctor's orders were clear. Eat for 30 mins then stop. Do not graze. Everyone on this forum said, do not graze. Welp, apparently I grazed.
    Who knew?
Yet another habit to change that I took for granted. Can not try to eat lunch while on a phone meeting where you are the lead presenter.

Gardengirl reacted to gamergirl in dill pickles okay pre op cheat?
So my two cents only, based on my limited experience and knowledge of myself. I can rationalize ANYTHING if I try hard enough. chocolate become a source of antioxidants, pizza becomes a balanced food, cake becomes an indulgence that keeps me from binging...on and on.
Don't do that. Don't tell yourself it's okay because pickles are not that bad for you, it could have been something worse, etc. etc. The rules for the liquid pre-op are pretty simple. Don't break them.
This is your chance to change your behaviors, to do something that seems impossible, and to SUCCEED at it. To go into surgery knowing you can succeed, and that you gave yourself the best chance for a successful outcome. Don't deprive yourself of that win.
My post will likely be followed by some who will tell you what I think you want to hear--which is that it was okay. I hope you read mine and think of what I'm saying as well though.
I remember your earlier post where I think you said you broke the pre-op too and wonder if you might benefit from talking to someone before the surgery?
You now have another chance to get it right. Rooting for you to get there!

Gardengirl got a reaction from gamergirl in Why am I ashamed that I had to have WLS?
I'm scheduled for surgery on the 26th. I started off very slowly telling just a few people. Every single person I told has been so supportive. I have not gone so far as to announce it on Facebook but I feel a lot more comfortable telling people. I think you might be surprised when/if you start telling people. When people who don't know ask me about the weight loss I plan to say, diet, exercise, and surgery.

I was at costco yesterday and had to go sit down because I almost passed out. Got a diet lemonade and sat down in the cafeteria part. I never have eaten the junk they sell (except the hotdogs until I realized one had 500 calories!) but I was surrounded with smells of pizza, churros, and other savory goodness.
It was weird because it all smelled really good.....but I didn't want any. When you consider I haven't eaten any food and been on nothing but liquids for a month no, that's quite extraordinary.
    Long live my sleeve!
