I love your comment about it being the last form of acceptable discrimination I dont beleive that will ever change. If more people would just stop and think about putting themselves in someone elses shoes the world would be a much better place. There are those that do but most do not!

It is an odd thing for me, I never liked pickles. Never. Then post sleeve I crave them sometimes. I didn't eat them until after about eight weeks but now I always have them in the fridge for when the pickle mood hits!
ETA someone did tell me that a craving for pickles/salty things was connected to a need for potassium what is your potassium intake like?

I struggle when I travel for business and order in hotels. Going out to restaurants is easier because they have a bit more variety. Yesterday we were working through lunch. The menu basically had Soup, salad, and sandwiches. I did turkey pastrami, meat only. No bread, cheese, veggies, sides. I guess that just sounded stupid to the chef so he sent pastrami, cheese, veggies, fruit, and a set of Condiments.
Really? More waste. I know they mean well and I should just take a chill pill.

I am 5 weeks out today and I rarely get hungry. When I do, it is NOTHING like pre-sleeve. Most days, I have to force myself to eat. food just does not have that appeal to me anymore. I focus on getting my Protein and fluids each day though.

I had a drain. It just is in your body and drains out fluids and stuff. The removal is really weird but it's doable without pain.

Riding my bike, hiking, swimming, skiing, and just playing in the colorado mountains with my daughter. I feel so much better doing the things I love!

This seems to vary by surgeon. I know mine doesn't use them after surgery.

Don't know...I was told it would be removed before I come out of surgery & that I would only be in the hospital over night for the sleeve...

Drain after surgery, ... to drain blood, goo & stuff. Good early indicator of problems. Usually 'pulled' before you go home from hospital. Sometimes left in till the surgical follow-up visit. Sometimes not used at all!

I came home yesterday. The first 24hrs were tough, killer gas pain and all of the poking and prodding at the hospital allowed for no rest. Home now and feeling much better. How about you?

I had my GS on July 30, 2013 and I am excited about my new journey!
I started at 262 lbs, now at 244. I have my first post-op Dr. appt today. I had the best post-op experience. Almost no nausea and absolutely no pain! I actually asked Dr. Burpee when he came in right after surgery if he had to call it off because I didn't feel like I had anything done!
So glad I found this site, great info and great place to vent and share achievements!

Olivia2233 reacted to buplee in Sticking to a pre opp diet
I am almost 6 months post-op and 85lbs down. The pre-op diet was easy to get through for me. I dealt with my food issues and gave up unhealthy foods and started by cutting portions, not drinking with meals, and no snacking. The post-op was a bit of a challenge because of the the sweetness of the Protein Shakes and the cream Soups. My wife started to purée and strain homemade sop which was a welcome departure from the other items. The main thing was that I stuck to the program and DID NOT CHEAT on either phase. I know some are of the mindset that it's ok, just get back on track the next day, but the next day turns into the day after that. It's important to get in touch with your respective food relationships and deal with them accordingly. The surgery is a lifestyle change and is a tool to help fix your body, but does nothing for your mind. You must handle that part separately. Good luck to you all.

Good luck and take breaks when you can. I made sure with my doctor that I could go back to work in a week, which he said yes. ( Barring any complications) But I have a desk job so that is very different. And losing 15 lbs is great! Any loss is a plus. Just remember, this is forever. You have the rest of your life to enjoy the new body you will have. Rome wasn't built in a day...

For me it was the soda. I gave it up about a mth before preop. I new that was going to be the hardeat for me. I was addicted I never drank Water only soda. I actually went through withdrawal the sweats the mood swings. That was my wAke up call. I always told my family like any addict I can leave it whenever I want. Well no it wasn't easy it was the hardest thing to do. After that it was the drive thrus. Yup I said no more. This cannot control my life. I control my life. I'm 3 mth post op and I am living my life better and healthier than ever. And I don't miss a thing.

In the past 5 weeks I have given pop, coffee, fast food, full sugar Desserts, fried food and started exercising. It has been really hard! But the other posters are right it does get a little easier each day. I reduced things a little at a time and that seemed to work.
    It still sucks sometimes!
