What is the drain peeps keep talking about?

My mom had the bypass and she didnt have a drain?

      Drain after surgery, ... to drain blood, goo & stuff. Good early indicator of problems. Usually 'pulled' before you go home from hospital. Sometimes left in till the surgical follow-up visit.

      This seems to vary by surgeon. I know mine doesn't use them after surgery.

      Don't know...I was told it would be removed before I come out of surgery & that I would only be in the hospital over night for the sleeve...

    Yes I am staying overnight to so they can make sure I am getting enough fluids. Sheesh I hope I dont need one, my Dr. has said nothing of this! Thanks I was curious! :unsure:

    I had a drain. It just is in your body and drains out fluids and stuff. The removal is really weird but it's doable without pain.

    They removed my friend drainage tube the following day after her surgery just before she went home .
