Nursebarbie got a reaction from brwneyedwoman in Idiots, I tell you!
So I went to the Vitamin Shoppe looking for this glorious Syntrax Nectar mix I've been reading about. Walked in and two clerks (neither looking particularly healthy themselves) asked what I was looking for. Asked, " do you have Syntrax nectar? "
Silence.
"Oh no, we don't have that."
Silence.
Now, I'm sure I read someone saying they had it so I decided to look around. There, in the Protein Powder section a huge ceiling to floor section of guess what? Syntrax Nectar. In every flavor you can imagine.
I grab lemon tea flavor (great by the way), walk up to the counter and say " uh, yeah you do."
Silence.
Come people, this isn't a big store. Know your stock. And don't counsel me at the checkout that Isopure is "better for me" either when you are missing several teeth.
Uggh. Idiots, I tell you!

I'm a rebel. I'd rather be "hot" than fugly and "healthy" while I'm still young enough to enjoy it..... like a bikini!

I wonder where your surgeon gets 4 pounds per week from? My surgeon said 1-2 pounds per week is what should be expected.

So today I go to the ortho Dr. for my wonky foot...On the documentation, I put down that I can't take NSAIDS, like a good sleeve boy should. So the nurse handling my case asks me if I was allergic. I replied no, that I had had VSG and can't do the drugs. We go on to talk about about me having the surgery the weight that I have dropped etc. Well..now, this nurse was 300lbs if she was an ounce. She says, she'd rather do it the "natural way"...hmmm...okay good for you..then tells me that she is going to get hCG shots for her birthday...hmmmm...I tried to keep a straight face, and was super supportive of her doing her "natural" thing, but when she left the room, I had to...well...laugh.

Saw my surgeon yesterday. Suggested 1 oz pickle juice twice a day. No more frothing or heart burn and zero nausea! She also scheduled upper GI to check for strictures.
I bought Syntrax Nectar today lemon tea flavor. Can be mixed directly in 2 to 4 oz of Water and taken as a shot. I was able to tolerate that amazingly well. Will definately buy the lemonade flavor next. Being able to get Protein in basically a "shooter" is a godsend for me. I get super full on 2 oz of anything including liquid.
Surgeon was concerned because I am in starvation mode and dehydrated again. Just so nauseated and full all the time. With the addition of Pickle Juice or even sucking on a pickle has made all the difference in the world. I didn't even bother with any nausea meds or reglan today.
Today is my birthday and I weighed in at 197. So I made my goal. Very happy about that. I bought size 16 shorts! Was in a 22 before. Amazing! Best gift to myself ever!

Nursebarbie got a reaction from DeezJeanz in Trying to open up
There are plenty of people who get lung cancer and never smoked or liver disease and never drank. I have personally taken care of many extremly healthy athletic patients who were terminally ill. My point is you could be a health nazi all day long and still end up with some castrophic illness or problem. We do not need to punish ourselves for being overweight. Not productive or helpful. No one is perfect. Striving for that kind of perfection sets you up for sabotage. This is a new way of life not a jail sentence.

Nursebarbie got a reaction from atelux17 in I need Advice!
You personally attacked me out of all the posters who felt the same way as me. To me that does not demostrate someone who has a very well rounded education. Especially a doctorate of philosophy which balances its points of view with reason and deep thought. I hate to tell you this but its just a gastric surgery not a quadruple bypass or massive traumatic brain surgery. Many people have their stomach removed for other reasons than weight loss and go on with their lives. I find you to be rude to single out one poster in this thread when many others echoed my point of view. I shared something very personal with the other members. By doing what you have done you have demostrated zero compassion and zero common sense.

You are right and I bow down to you. Infact let's fire all the doctors too since most cardiologists have never had a hear attack so what do they know? And those male ob gyns too! Imagine them knowing how to deal with being pregnant! When I go back to work in a week I will be sure to tell all the other nurses and doctors that we are idiots who cannot advise anyone of health issues unless we have the same medical problems. And we better find shrinks who are crazy too right? After it takes one to know one right?
You deserve the blue ribbon for this line of thought. Thanks for a laugh.

Wow, i am so impressed with you and your family. It cannot ever be said that you did not think through every aspect of this situation or that you didn't do everything possible for your daughter so ensure her success. With so much support in place she cannot fail. Whether she loses her excess weight with diet, surgery or a combination I have no doubt she will lose it and have a long healthy life ahead of her.

Nursebarbie reacted to NoneYa in I need Advice!
I gave my opinion of this when the thread was first opened but i didn't really expand on my reasons for it.
I cannot help but think of my 2 ex sister in laws. As children borh were ovrweight and then obese. As they grew older and entered JR High school they started to really care what others thought. They wanted boyfriends , to be accepted at school etc. they started trying to diet but failed at all attempts. Not really fail because they would lose 30-40 lbs but they couldn't keep up the momentum and eventually regained. They had so much to lose and felt like the end was too far away to ecer reach. Most of us know that story all too well. How i wish that this surgery had been availale for them in the early 80s. It wasn't though and by the time they were 15 and 16 years old they were both diabetic. They struggled with their health for the next 5 years until the biggest fear was realized. At 20 and 21 years of age they were both put on kidney dialysis. 2 years later the older sister had a leg amputated. Within a month the younger one lost her eyesight. Within the following year the younger one lost a leg and her sister also went blind. The youngest sister died from heart failure at the age of 26. Her sister died do to a pulmonary embolism at 29.
Why do i tell this story? Because these girls would have avoided all of that had they been able to get the weight off and keep it off. They tried and couldn't do it on their own. Had they been able to have this surgery their life story would have to be rewritten. I believe that. I do not believe that it is always in the best interest of a child to be forced to wait until society thinks they're old enough. Sometimes common sense needs to enter into it. Sometimes we need to understand that this isn't a one size fits all subject. Sometimes this surgery saves lives and who deserves to live a long healthy life more than a young person?
