Since not many people know about my surgery, I had to come on here to share about my surgerversary!
I was a low BMI'er and self-paid a ton of money and this has been the best decision of my life. My high weight was 220, day of surgery 190, current weight 140. I'm 5'5". I'm trying to take off the last couple of pounds but I'm super happy at 140 and so is my surgeon. My bloodwork was awesome and I'm feeling great.
Here are some pictures. Even one with the fabulous Dr. Cirangle!

Hey ppl. Anyone interested in doing pics? I recently got back into photography. I am 13 mon out and as part of my biz approach, I want to work with bariatric patients and photograph their before and/or after photos. I know what it's like not wanting to be in pics. Lol. But now I jump in every opportunity I get. If interested then let me know. Plward14@yahoo.com

Anyone else having what I'm calling "surgery brain"?? I'm having a really hard time concentrating on anything else, work, etc. It's not even that I'm thinking about surgery, I just can't focus. I can't turn my brain off at night either.

Okay, deep breaths ladies!! It is actually quite touching how this worry comes up, like clockwork, here on the forum every few weeks, with every batch of new sleevers (this month I'm 3 years out). Here's the deal:
Though invasive, lap band surgery is nowhere near as traumatic as VSG, and the weight loss is different. Your body is recovering from major surgery, you just lost 80% of one of your vital organs, it's going to take time. If you had just had your appendix removed, or gallbladder surgery, would you be humpin' it up within a week?
As for sex drive: once you have healed physically and the weight loss has begun in earnest, you will ABSOLUTELY see a change. A very funny, slightly alarming, change. As you begin to lose fat rapidly your body is flooded with all of the estrogen that was trapped in the fat cells, making you super super horny, a sexual T-Rex, a Sex Rex, if you will . This usually happens around month 2 and you will be back here on the boards, posting about how you have become a sex maniac and you are draining the life fluids out of your SO and omg sex is SOMUCHFUN!!
That lasts for about 2 months on its own, but if you are instilling good exercise habits during that time, once you have lost a significant portion of your weight and have also become fit from all the exercise, you suddenly discover SKINNY SEX, and then there will be the phase of posts about that here All the positions you can suddenly do, the stamina you have, the sensations you receive because he can now go deeper than before, etc. etc.
So, in summation, this is all perfectly normal, there is nothing wrong with you, have some open dialogue with your SO, and above all, take tender care of yourself and give yourself time to heal.

I have tremendous sympathy for the venters. Never stop because this educates people. I did plenty of research and my mother and my best friend had the sleeve before I did. But there are a lot of things you might read or "hear about" before surgery but you cannot know what it is really like until you experience it. There is so much that must be experienced to be understood because it isn't like anything you have gone through.
For everyone in here talking about the need to do research, it is threads like this and the comments from frustrated people that serve as TRUE research. Another issue is that no amount of research can prepare you for the idiosyncratic things that only you will experience. None of us has the exact same experience after surgery.
For example, I wish someone had told me that I'd be in tremendous pain for an entire month, unable to even sit on the toilet without level 10 pain. No one told me that because it doesn't happen to everyone. But going through that much pain for that long had a big impact on my first month of surgery.
I too didn't realize what it would mean not to eat a proper meal. I don't miss eating large amounts of food. I love the savings on my grocery bill! But I also love to cook and put together flavors. It can be such a letdown when I go to all of that effort and then after a few (SLOW) bites I'm done. Another thing is the need to eat really slowly means my food gets cold and rubbery. So even though I knew before I had the surgery that the amounts of food would be low and I looked forward to that, I didn't know how it would alter the whole experience of eating a meal beyond just smaller portions.

SmilinNC reacted to gmanbat in VSG: status symbol?
    http://www.dailymail...tus-symbol.html
Plastic surgery, tummy tucks, liposuction, etc. are talked about freely as status symbols for celebrities and even normal folks.
Why should us bariatric surgery stars lurk around in shadows like we've done something wrong?
A great percentage of new posts on here are about whether to tell folks. A prevailing reason not to reveal is because people are either ignorant, rude or both and you dread their reactions. The problem is theirs, not yours. .
A great majority of sleevers here are thoughtful, intelligent people. I have experienced kindness here that I have not experienced in many a forum. We are not stupid, careless people.
The surgery speaks well of us: we are aggressively taking charge of our lives. We have the courage to do something radical, not because it might work but because it will work. Most of us understand that the VSG is just a tool and we know that a fundamental change in many aspects of our behavior is required. This is no diet fad, this is a decisive people doing what has to be done for the sake of our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Society in general benefits because our defeat of obesity transforms us into more productive contributors.
So what is to be ashamed of? Nothing!
Hold your head high, those belly scars are badges of honor. Everyone has problems. You are dealing with yours head on. It speaks well of your courage and passion for life.
I have been a minister for many years. I know that the way you present something has a great deal to do with how it is received. If you act ashamed the hearers will get the impression that you've done a shameful thing. If you talk about it like you just purchased a Maserati the majority of folks will get the impression that you are on to something great.
Your status is in your heart, in your head, and in your hands. Stand up,... be proud!

SmilinNC reacted to Disco in Always had a lot of belly fat....it's my body's makeup, does this get better as you lose?
I have always had that "fat stomach", i.e I have a huge bulge UNDER my belly button that "hangs" down (i'm only 4 weeks sleeved... and am losing slowly, so I havent seen much change yet".
I have (even when I was a KID... I was always overweight all my life... and I can look at a pic as an 8 yr old and I had that "under belly button-fat bulge". Now, ABOVE the belly button, it has always been pretty flat (strange, I know...)
I have always been sooooooo jealous of the heavier women who still, by the grace of God, had a "flat stomach" pretty much. If I had one wish, it would be to have a flat stomach after all this! (something I have NEVER had in all of my almost 43 years of living!
I have never been able to "tuck in shirts", because even as a size 14 (this is the smallest I can remember myself being.... and that was since middle school)..... I STILL had that FKIN bulge!
Now, I am praying that I go down waaaaay below a 14 (currently a 20, hope to be at LEAST a size 8-10!), but my question is...... if YOU have this body type and HAVE lost weight, does this bulge go away... at least mostly ? ( and for the record I do NOT believe that this "buldge" is something that excercise can take away either .... just like guys with chicken legs will NEVER have Arnold Schwarzenegger calves, unless you are so constantly trying to focus on that stomach and honestly..... that just doesn't sound appealing. I will and have been walking and will work out, but that just seems like it is fighting an uphill battle.....forever)
After this surgery though,......... I am reticent to potentially even THINK about a Tummy Tuck though (eek!), wven when the time is right (i.e. when close to/at goal weight).
Thoughts??? Is plastic surgery my best bet once i lose weight?
