  1. Debbie, Your post helped to calm my pre surgery jitters today, thank you. Your comment about your experiences not being quite as dramatic as some really hit home. When I read a lot of the experiences it seems as though there are many negative, quite a few positive posts, BUT, I am guessing that the MAJORITY of bandsters are not at either extreme, but in the great big middle portion of people that don't have major issues or "PERFECT" experiences. They handle the petty, minor, annoyances and bothers and go about their day and don't think it is anything more than "dealing" with their choice. I am hoping that most of us will fall in the middle of the band scale and adapt our ways and don't think that what we do each day is anything to write home about!! But, it is important to relate the positive. Yes, your message is needed to add balance to the extremes. It was a message I needed to hear today, because my surgery is Thursday and I'm just a nervous wreck.
  2. LINK: for emotional aspects of eating. covers wide range. Welcome to emotional eating ANOTHER LINK: for practical nutrition info. recommended by experienced bandsters, so it has to be good! Real Living Nutrition Ah, I'm making this up as I go...so, I'm thinking about making RESOURCES list with sub sections for books, one for magazines, one for online websites, etc. so please post any suggestions here and I will start to compile them so we have one thread to visit when we want to know the name of a cookbook, or magazine, or website.
  3. dreno, my band day is aug 23....holy moley, that's just a couple of days for us!!!!!!!!!! My surgery is scheduled for 11 am and my doc keeps his banders in the hospital over night. I was not thrilled with that idea but, posters have said they were glad to have been able to spend the extra time under watchful eyes...so, we shall see how I fare. How about you? Sorry, I am a wreck, I'm afraid I have not been very soothing, but, dang I do understand some of your apprehension. We're going to get this thing done and we're going to be the healthier for it!!

Sat Day 3: more of the same. slim fast, protein coffee, tomato soup. oh well, it will be worth the misery! Thankfully, it's only a week. Band Day is just around the corner--am flucuating between sheer terror and ecstasty. Am anxious to start losing and moving and feeling better in my skin but, afraid that it won't work for me and I'll be the trouble-laden failure of the century. Most likely I'll be somewhere in between but, if I only think of the two extremes right now I'll be pleasantly surprised when I end up in the middle of the road. Self-talk--it's more like "self-whine and cry"!!

  13. Hey Mr123, 8/23 is my band date, too. ONE WEEK AND COUNTING....7,6,5...it's getting close, it doesn't seem real yet though. Probably by next Thursday evening I'll be a basket case..I hope I don't back out. How are you doing in prep for the big day?
  14. Hi pmmegm, My pre-op is liquids only: cream soups, slim fast, protein drinks, yogurt smoothie-full liquids and today was day one. It's been okay--it feels like I have taken the next necessary step, and it feels terrific. Good for you on your YMCA membership! You may PM me or email me, I would love to stay in touch with you...we can compare notes and swap encouragement!
  15. I am sorry for your difficulty but, thank you for posting. It's was a wake up call for me and I found it very motivating. Why would we do ANYTHING to jeapordize the surgery after everything we've been through to get there!?? Again, I appreciate your honesty, thank you. My doc also said he would not convert to open if he had difficulty with the lap. But, hey, you are on your way now, girl! Good for you:kiss2:
  16. <p> Good luck Paul. Less than one week! :whoo: Today is the first day of my liquid diet and for some odd reason I am excited to start it. I guess it feels like I am finally REALLY getting started on the lapband way (weigh?) of life. I am ready to GO!

  25. here are my doc's guidelines: FYI ONLY:this is the info provided by the Bariatric Clinic that i am using liquid DIET GUIDELINES PRE- WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY 1. Choose 3 "liquid calorie meals" per day. DO NOT drink liquids that contain more than 10 calories at any other time of the day. 2. Each "liquid meal" will consist of 1 cup (8 oz) of liquids that contains Protein and calories. (see options below) 3. Drink your "liquid meal" over a 30-45 minute period. 4. Drink only non-calorie beverages at other times of the day. It is important to stay hydrated. EXAMPLES OF "LIQUID MEAL" BEVERAGE CHOICES: · Skim or 1% milk · Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar-free) made with skim or 1% milk · Ready-made liquid supplements (Ensure, Boost, Slim Fast) · Yogurt smoothie · Soy milk · Creamed Soups REMEMBER: The above liquids ARE NOT appropriate after you start eating foods again. TIPS: 1. Try having low-sodium chicken broth to help you feel full 2. Eat sugar-free Jello or sugar-free Popsicles between meals, if you start to feel hungry. 3. Avoid places and social situations where food is the primary focus, or bring your liquid meal with you. 4. Stay busy 5. Avoid watching TV commercials--most of them are about food! 6. Ask a friend to try doing the liquid diet with you. 7. Drink plenty of non-calorie fluids. Keeping your stomach full of non-calorie liquids will help to decrease hunger.
