At the hospital
was just discharged from the hospital. had surgery monday and stayed an extra night because I felt poorly. the best advice i can give is that the turn around for me was rapid. Monday and tues day morining were horrible and had push very hard to walk. then tuesday afternoon it eased up but not enough to go home ( if I had lived within an hour i would have left) but voila, just as the surgeon said, for some of us right around the 48 hour mark something changes. For me it was around 40 hours, the gas pain dissipated, i rested better, i took in broth and Jello like they were the best food I have ever eaten then this morning i was ready to go. I am so thankful to all of you that mentioned how the first day or tow there can be buyer's remorse because I could not beleive what I had done to myself. but now I am fully motivated, happy with the process and as I am waiting at the airport for my flight the number of smells from the eateries are flowing through my nose. a week ago i had not noticed them, now they are intense. yet although my eyes and memory feels a slight pull, i am having no problem ignoring them. For those of you needed a self pay option and live near chalotte NC give dr. heider a consideration, not as cheap as going to Mexico but the most reasonable I found in the east coast, much cheaper than BARIX and only slightly more than the numbers i see in Houston/DAllas. But more important, excellent care and concern. Interesting sidelight, I am a true purple RAvens fan and i had my going home tshirt. my doctor is apparently a die hard steelers fan.

- Hungry on pre-op diet
I found short burst of exercise helped alot. I pushed my knees on the treadmill and got sweating and voila i got a few hours respite from the hunger- Three Years Later - What I've Learned
thanks! i can see the wisdom of experience in the post and i plan to make great use of it. one query-- why do people use so much coconut water? is it just for the flavor? it seems to add pointless carbs--all sugars by the way. a novice- 4 Days post-op
wow! with one day to go that is serious business. like many guys that love intense sports activity, i can down fluids quickly, no I mean massively. 15oz in 2minutes sounds rather slow- Feeling crappy
your sleeve is obviously ready for well chewed food! congrats!- Going alone!
I am getting surgery tomorrow by myself. dont know how I will do but i am having a great time here by myself. although it is North Carolina and not Mexico ( only because it is closer to baltimore)- Weird..
IMHO--that is not a trivial change. 800 calories and 35 gm of fat in one sitting. your stomach and gall bladder probably dont know what hit them. I dont know if i would get a headache but my stomach would certainly feel it.- Anyone from Minnesota
My daughter was married in Lutsen resort last week, not far from canada i am told. beautiful country, at least in the summer. the mosquitos were persistent and the lake water was chilly to the extreme.- july 2013 sleevers
I cant believe today i flew out to NC where I am getting the surgery on monday. I am treating these two days as a mini vacation, hiking and watersports. getting away from home makes it seem like I am not just waiting for somethign to happen.- What do you want to do?
Initially, getting back on a bike would be good. I used to do triathlons until i could not get up the hills without exhaustion. but a secret goal, if i can get my weight to my goal, is to try a rock climbing wall. that is something that I never, ever thought woudl be possible.- july 2013 sleevers
from the unexpected department: i was very angry about having to do the liquid diet. it seemed like one more put down--I am getting the sleeve because of how hard it is to lose weight, so requiring weight loss prior to surgery seems sadistic to me. HOwever, now that I am on day 5, the anger is totaly gone ( dont know why) and i have adjusted to the diet and actually i think about food less now than before. is this anticipation of the sleeve? seems weird, but at least for the last few days, food seems irrelevant to me. We shall see if it holds up through sunday.- To tell or not to tell that is the question.......................
I want to keep it to myself but people aren't dumb. eventualy they will figure it out. too big ( pun) a success to hide. I am hoping for a few months before i get grilled by my patients. After all after 23 years of being large all of the sudden i drop a ton of weight. not hard to figure.- My surgery is tomorrow and I'm so nervous
I will switch places. I cant wait. but then mine isnt for four days yet, perhaps on sunday i will be singing a different tune. best wishes.- liquid diet
Only four more days of this liquid diet. hasnt been too hard until today. for some reason it feels much more difficult. fortunately it is the end of the day and If i can get to sleep I should be ok until tomorrow evening. I am not even worried about sunday for the anticipation should hold me so i really only have three days, tomorow being the hardest apart from fri and sat of course. it did help to see that I dropped two pounds in two days. I will weight myself either friday or sat morning. I expect to be at goal for surgery if I can hold on. The coffee is raising my calories each day and i had two potfulls today, that is 100 calories. but it kept me from eating. I have had my last normal meal ever--five days ago. On Holly's wedding day, actually much before that becasue i was watching my food so carefully. I dont miss it much yet. My knee already feels better and i am only down 35 pounds. I cant imagine what it will feel like to lose another 70. I anticipate surgery being easy. after all i have been through, i will be surprised if it isnt. the pain will be interesting, some people have almost none some stay awake to press the morphine drip. Odd.- Anyone else on July 15th?
mine was changed from 8 to 10 on the 15th. i was initially disapointed then realized that it was all sleep time, i wont even notice it- Anyone else on July 15th?
I cant believe we are almost there! i began packing my bag yesterday and need to finish it today for I fly out on Sat morning and work two long days thurs-fri. I am excited, like I used to get before going to Disney as a kid. I have an important business dinner tonight and have my answers ready when they notice I am not eating anything.- Anyone from Minnesota
My daughter just graduated from ST Olaf college, in Northfield. How do you put up with those winters? we visited her at christmas once and that was plenty for me and I like cold weather.- Today is the day..
from a professional standpoint I will be anxious to hear how the surgery affects your diabetes. best of wishes to you- Weight loss slowed? Make sure you measure! Keeps you motivated -it's true!
one way to not be tied to the number on the scale is to get rid of the scale. That is what I am aiming for. Hard to know if you are stalling if there is no weight record. IMHO--probably harder to do than to say. will let you know how it goes.- Today is the day..
I am exactly six days behind you. wish you the best - Anyone from NC?
