If you are eating 1000 calories and only getting up to 40 grams of Protein, I really encourage you to rethink your food choices. Eat more protein rich foods and less carbs and you will stay fuller longer

was just discharged from the hospital. had surgery monday and stayed an extra night because I felt poorly. the best advice i can give is that the turn around for me was rapid. Monday and tues day morining were horrible and had push very hard to walk. then tuesday afternoon it eased up but not enough to go home ( if I had lived within an hour i would have left) but voila, just as the surgeon said, for some of us right around the 48 hour mark something changes. For me it was around 40 hours, the gas pain dissipated, i rested better, i took in broth and Jello like they were the best food I have ever eaten then this morning i was ready to go.
I am so thankful to all of you that mentioned how the first day or tow there can be buyer's remorse because I could not beleive what I had done to myself. but now I am fully motivated, happy with the process and as I am waiting at the airport for my flight the number of smells from the eateries are flowing through my nose. a week ago i had not noticed them, now they are intense. yet although my eyes and memory feels a slight pull, i am having no problem ignoring them.
For those of you needed a self pay option and live near chalotte NC give dr. heider a consideration, not as cheap as going to Mexico but the most reasonable I found in the east coast, much cheaper than BARIX and only slightly more than the numbers i see in Houston/DAllas. But more important, excellent care and concern.
Interesting sidelight, I am a true purple RAvens fan and i had my going home tshirt. my doctor is apparently a die hard steelers fan.

I really feel for what you folks go through with your insurance companies. DownUnder (well, the Australian bit of it) if your GP says this is suitable surgery for you and refers you to a bariatric surgeon that's the end of it. Insurance company has no say in the matter, and it would be considered an intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship.
As far as I know all the insurance companies cover it - well mostly cover it, as a "co-payment" is normal. For me it was $5250, and my health insurance is pretty decent. I don't know if we pay more for insurance than you folks, but it's a private matter - not part of your employment - so perhaps we do.
Good luck with the process.

faifie got a reaction from need2bthin! in Waiting on insurance approval!
I am with you waiting on dr to send everything to insurance company. I work in insurance billing so I know what they are dealing with and I don't want to hassle the lady at my surgeons office. But, it is so hard to be patient. I hope you hear something soon,

I think that's a very normal concern, not crazy at all.........these are my thoughts, for myself......hope it helps.......
I've researched WLS on and off for about 6 years.......if I had had the surgery, I may have had loose skin or hair loss......but I now have that--w/o surgery .....in addition, I now have a lot of health issues due to my weight......and they are just going to keep coming unless I do something
So, if I could go back 6 years, I would run to have surgery if I could.......even if it guaranteed loose skin and thin hair......at this point, those are the least of my worries......it may be an age thing.....the big five-oh is looming.....
I have REALLY struggled with this decision ever since that informational session--drove DH nuts! Two weeks ago, I had an epiphany and now going full speed ahead with WLS.....I still have some concerns, but I think they are normal....it helped to write down all the pros and cons of having/not having surgery...that may help you, too.
Good luck with your decision.....typically you don't HAVE to schedule the surgery right away.....when you hear from your insurance company, find out how long the approval is good for (I think they may give you X amount of months to have the surgery before the approval expires), and use that time to come to a decision if you are still on the fence......again, good luck!
