Long-term stories wanted
I am over 5 years out. I guess you have to define success. My goal when I had the surgery was to be able to do the things I wanted to do in life. I didn't exactly reach that goal for other things but it wasn't a total loss. I've learned a lot about what you want in a surgeon and support groups. I've learned just how rotten people are, and how some are good. There is more to life than losing weight. Your life gets affected by more than the weight loss. We need to talk not only in terms of weight loss but of life.

3 month liquid diet
This doesn't sound right by any surgeon I have ever heard of. Ensure is a lot of sugar also. Something isn't right here. Is this surgeon online and do they have or are recommended with anything by the ASMBS? Totally smells - and no offense.

Choosing a Weight Loss Surgeon: Beyond the Numbers
Can I add to this since I had a surgeon who ended up following me on public property a few times?

Forks over Knives
On a vegetarian diet, vegan diet, there is NEVER ANY recognition of protein deficiencies. B12 yes, but never protein. I have no idea why people can say there is no protein in anything but red meat or poultry. If you look up the makeup of foods, there is protein in a lot of things.

Rectal Intussusception/Pelvic Floor Prolapse
This isn't something any one on the boards here can help you with. You'd have to talk to the surgeon or get a second opinion.

Too much protein?
Have you spoken with the surgeon's office? This is common and they should have warned you about it. Its more than likely due to sugar/caffeine removal and lower calories than anything else. I didn't cold turkey anything. I spent 3 weeks before weaning off caffeine/sodas. Not touched a drop in years. I didn't have a problem but if you cold turkey anything, that's what will happen.

NSV tired out the dog!
YAY! A good back rub and long pets are probably appreciated too. That would get your arms moving. One of the problems with many of the exercise recommendations (for the most part) is walking or running, then a bike or something. That doesn't really get those arms moving. Moving the arms, core, etc. help.

NSV tired out the dog!
I'm glad you got out and exercised. Remember though, how you felt when you were out of shape and pushed into doing some exercise you don't want to do. Give them a small start and build up as you are doing (I hope).

When Can I Ride?
No. I was able to swim 2 days short of a month, but I already was in good shape and only 75% overweight. I dropped 25% of my weight in the first month. Unless you were already exercising like crazy before the surgery, and walked walked walked during the first month, and were as small as I was already, probably not. The incisions and the like are an issue. You haven't factored in the inability to eat and drink to support the above either.

The best surgeon on Hampton Roads, Va is: Dr. Terracina
You didn't say in your note whether or not you saw all the responses on this thread. That would have given you the information you were looking for. I gave you an update. If you are asking specific people who posted, contacting them privately would be the best way to see if they've changed their minds.

The best surgeon on Hampton Roads, Va is: Dr. Terracina
The previous responses all did. I can tell you about the 3 groups in Hampton Roads or impressions I've gotten and heard. Dr. Terracina, and then after that Dr. Clark, have been the best overall so far.

What Is Your Policy on Carbs?
Beans here get eaten, no matter what people think of the carbs. Rather than think of protein in it, the fiber you need for colon health and cancer prevention lines of thought, most are still too attached to it is only for carbs. Yet they'll eat fries, want to drink beer, etc.

Question for all post op vets ( at least 2 years post op or longer)
I am over 5 years. You can't eat like you did before. Does it get better after a couple of years in terms of how much you can eat at one time? Yes, but it still isn't a lot. I can do a cup but it depends on what is in that cup.

Carafate
Yes. I used to drink it like sodas.

Soups and Stews for cold weather and sickness
I go for soups and don't worry about it. There is usually not enough liquid it is a problem especially as you have only a few noodles.

Feeling Great? Do You Still REALLY Need Lab work?
You might want to add Vit C, zinc. I've had problems with those and part of the reason why is the Vitamins I get. Vitamin K was an issue for years too. I didn't have a DS either ... that should tell you something.
