  1. @@CowgirlJane That's how I lost weight: swimming.
  2. {{scratching head}} I thought it was $8.99 a pound? That's what I've always paid for it.
  3. Yes. As someone who walks with a cane and leg braces, nutritional issues that werent dealt with, I sort of differ. I do have disability at work. I'm not the only one with issues. One of the people who told me to be careful on it was someone who had her niece die from it in the early 90's. Do I believe in the surgery? Yes but I also believe in competant follow up care, complete and evidence based follow up care. Not something that is half baked, doctors who don't listen to patients or say that every problem is all in their head. Once you've had that, you change your tune when people need support in considering their options. Lets take JerseyJules seriously. No ribbing guys please? That's something worthy of the Obesity Help forums, not the people here. I have seen people on this forum extend hands of friendship and support that I didn't see in even some in person support groups. Pushing someone into doing something is a form of peer pressure. I want to give my understanding to someone who I truly believe is going to take the journey seriously. We need people like JJ. Actually I found his post quite smug and arrogant, kind of a quit whining that I didnt get it, and he is better than me cause he got it post..at least that's how I interpreted it. Also what were your reasons? Just curious to hear what drives certain people to take the plunge..
  4. If that comes thru, that is the bariatric surgeons' comment in my medical records and that one item is true (so many things I had to correct). I've been noting up the times he wrote in the records that I had pain after surgery and I was left for months with it. He said it was because I wasn't eating. I said if you got rid of the pain, I would eat. He even acknowledged I gained weight after getting rid of the gallbladder.

  6. I was on public property, people would go by the office and I'd say things like good luck, or where's the voice for those of us who didn't have a positive experience. No yelling, cursing, stopping people from going in, etc. Because I tell people things to look for like: * 40-45% profit margin for bariatric practices, * investigate a surgeons' experience, research, knowledge of complications, do they tell people that problems are "all in their head" * my records where the surgeon acknowledged me asking him why he had left me in pain for so long when he said he'd treat me like his family (actually the records say 'treat white count with family') * do they follow ASMBS guidelines * not verifying that there is a legal document of some type that bars you being accepted at other bariatric practices in the area once you've gotten the surgery at one place the center called the cops to give me a "history". The cops told them she's doing nothing illegal or "wrong" is the actual quote. They told them to "leave me alone" because I said the surgeon followed me. You see, when there is a 40-45% profit margin, how many businesses are going to not want you to speak? Remember, surgery is a one shot deal (98% of people due to cost/insurance).
  7. I respectfully disagree. I've seen way too many people walk into it with no nothing other than 'it can't happen to me' or blame the patient when things go wrong. I didn't think I would get all the issues I did. I thought it would fix them. I got worse than that. So she is doing right to carefully consider this. Some maybe are more careful than others. No one goes into this thinking they will be the one with complications. Better to have things planned out like JerseyJules is doing, than get caught off guard. I know. I'm paying the price. I'm not here to force or tell people to get it, I'm here to be honest about things and support whether the decision is yay or nay. I've had too many who withdrew their support of me once I showed that the surgeon sent the cops after me when "female is doing nothing wrong". That should tell you what happens when people speak to others honestly about their experience. Is that the kind of "support" you want any way?
  8. For me, I found I liked leftovers. It didn't matter any more, as long as I ate.
  9. Yes and no. I'd get another surgeon. I do have problems out but whatever, its not like it can be reversed.
  10. {{hugs}} to everyone. Its a big step. You didn't fail. You made a different choice, maybe for the time being, maybe not. Its ok. {{hugs}}
  11. 10 pounds a month is average. Only more if you're doing a lot of exercising or have a lot of weight to lose.
  12. Same here. I'm glad you had the courage to take care of yourself. Let me encourage you to do so. I have religious beliefs, so that is a little different for me. I believe you are worth it and hope you will continue to keep on loving yourself.
  13. I think there is a lot that can be done in that area. In my case, it didn't that long for a simple google search of the medical information to find out something the doctor really should have put together given my background and his "I've been a doctor for 20 years" experience. If you remove ego and $$$ out of the equation, health care can be very different.
  14. My jaw is dropping. My bones are taking one crap of a beating. Man ... mine are middle 9's and they used be upper middle 8's. My urine calcium went from 3's to 2's. Low in calcium diet is 50-150.
  15. Um do you have any nerve tics or problems? Calcium running that high, are they sure it is just the parathyroids without doing any other checks. I'm wondering how you are managing as I'm running upper nines and its a mess.
  16. Putting my Speedos is always a reality check.
  17. Hi, Very sorry to hear of your problems. What sort of follow up have you been getting? You are 2 years out and were more than 1 year out at first complication. What sorts of tests were done by what docs? If you are more descriptive we could maybe help more unless you just need to vent. In that case, go for it.
  18. A urine calcium w/the I calcium is going to give you a good idea of where that extra calcium is coming from.
  19. This might be bad, but don't they have goat meat and the like there? I think the biggest problem is that the Mid East has worse obesity rates than we do. The culprits: fast food and lack of exercise. Speaking of which, is it possible to *WALK* during the day? If it is as hot as I hear, you could lose weight from short walks (no running, etc.) just simple walks.
  20. @@Kindle hey thanks for asking. No, PCP was out sick. I'm like let her stay out sick. She's not infecting us. hee hee hee Which calcium level? blood, icalcium or have they done a urine 24 analysis? That's the way you are going to find out what is going on.
  21. WTG on the weight loss
  22. @@Ms skinniness I am rooting for you! Keep us informed on how you are doing.
  23. Seeking Health is one of the few with methylfolate and methylcobalamin. Those are the only ones recommended by the heme/oncologist I have. This is not bariatric, this is the only one that my MD/PhD recommended and I sat for 1x for 5 weeks with his chemo patients since I had to get IV Iron. Only one was rail thin. The rest were healthy looking and dang sure weren't no 20-30 years old.
  24. @@Brian Green Hi Brian, what kind of get together are you thinking of? The only offshoot I know of, was all controlled by one of the surgery groups, not one for everyone from all groups where we weren't judged based on the group we had surgery with.
  25. I am very sorry over what happened for you. The office should have helped you with that.
