sheilarae got a reaction from Marivdb in Autoimmune Issues and VSG?
Im 8 weeks out. I have fibromyalia, ostioarthritis , sleep apnea, high blood pressure... I don't take the Mobic because of possibly damage to my tummy and seem to be doing well, however , i havent started teaching my 4 year olds yet! I have been able to drop one of my blood pressure MEDS because it was too low. I'm hoping to get rid of the cpap and take less cymbolta for the fibro. It's always a balancing act.

Cheri, thank you for your ranting! It is so true! I have to keep reminding myself that this is a lifetime choice and not be in such a hurry to lose the weight. Although I've only lost 27 total, (have about 50 more to go) I've gone down 2sizes in clothes. My new school clothes I bought last Spring are very baggy and I'm wearing them this Fall anyway. My badge of courage ! Thank you for your encouraging words. I've read other posts from you and you are my hero!!

Here is another question. As one other poster said, it's hard to get a lot of calories in when you get full so fast. At the beginning I was doing a lot of shakes to make my Protein marks, but quite frankly I am tired of them so I only do 1 for Breakfast with an extra scoop of unflavored protein in it. Now, i am eating more regular food so I am not getting calories or protein in. AND I am just not that interested in food anymore (never thought I would say that out loud) I am exercising 6x a week, cardio and weights, so now I think I am not eating enough calories because of the exercise. I am so confused as to what is right. My NUT has not returned my email, which is a whole other story. I asked my MIL who had bypass done about 17 years ago what she ate afterwards. Her words to me, we didn't bother with all the low cal stuff because we couldn't eat that much anyway so we just ate normally, just less of it. She lost 130lbs in about 9 months! i just wish I had the guy from Extreme Weight Loss living with me so he can tell me what I should eat and how much to work out.

I have been one of those people who are not happy with loss. When I use the scale everyday, yes I know that is not the way to do it, and no I won't stop doing it, I get frustrated seeing the same weight or within the same whole number for a LONG time. I started a spreadsheet though and I am hoping that changes my brain about how to look at this. My first month after surgery I lost 20lbs, the next month only lost 9.2, BUT if I can lose between 9-10 lbs per month, I will reach my goal in about 6 months. Being heavy my whole life, losing tons only to gain back a ton and a half, I looked at this surgery as a way to get my life in order. It took me years to gain it, and while I can sit and complaint that it's not fair, I did have surgery after all, I should lose it quicker, at this point it is what it is and if I can get to my goal (which is a lot more loss than my docs goal for me) within 6-8 months, that will be awesome.

I feel for you. My boyfriend has made more home made pies than i have produced bowel movements since surgery! Last night while baking an incredible smelling peach pie he asked me to pay the pizza guy when he arrived! I finally put my foot down and said no. Ive had nothing but shakes for five freakin weeks!

I'm sorry you are having trouble with the Protein. That's probably why you feel so bad! You need the protein!! Have you tried different kinds...soy based, whey based, fruit flavored, chocolate, vanilla...you may want to try to Water it down for a while so the flavor isn't so strong. Try to find some samples so you have more variety. And please talk to your dr. He may have other ideas for you. Good luck and never give up!

I'm not losing very fast either. Lost 15 before surgery and 7 in the 2 months after. I'm only eating about 600 cal a day. Drink lots of Water and walk 1mile every other day. I will walk more as my arthritis and fibro will allow.

How is your health otherwise? Do you feel good with lots of energy? I like all the suggestions I've read here, but don't forget that it's more than a number in the scale. Best wishes.

The custards sound good. I'm not liking solid food very much. I'd rather eat yogurt or cottage cheese. I have a pumpkin pudding I like...1 can pumpkin, 1 can evaporated skim milk, 1 small box sugar-free butterscotch pudding and then cinnamon to taste. Just mix it up. I was going to try it with vanilla Protein Drink but haven't yet.

I heard the same thing even as I waited to pre-op testing. In fact it was that kind of talk that deterred me from exploring the option of surgery two years ago. Howver, nothing anyone says can replace the gift of good health! My blood pressure, glucose levels, and joints will undoubtedly thank me once it is all said and done.

I basically stick to foods I know I can eat. That does give me a very big choice. I wondered too about if it was a good idea during the first month. . I'm 6 weeks out now. I decided to think of the positive reasons I did it. I can't go back so pushing forward with thoughts of being in less pain and being healthy. I hope you can focus on the positive. At the end of the day find 5 blessings you've had that day and write them down. Do this everyday and you can read it when you are second guessing yourself. You deserve to be healthy !!

No matter where you go, no matter who does your surgery, you cannot get any guarantee that complications or death will not occur.
I took that chance after doing my due diligence finding my surgeon. At the end of the day it was a chance I was willing to take because morbid obesity was killing me already.

Having trouble with ground beef. It hurts my stomach after I eat it. Once I threw up. Now I really don't want any more. I like grilled chicken and am getting Protein from other things...chick peas, black bean Soup, lentils. I eat about 15 bites and then I'm not hungry any more. Actually I'm rarely hungry.

Divadoll- This was the diet I was kept on due to complications from a previous surgery. I have only recently been given the OK to do one Protein Shake a day. The doctor's first goal was 100 pounds in 100 days. I have since started eating fish, usually salmon and dark meat chicken. Regardless, 50 pounds is 50 pounds and I will gladly take it.

I'm 62. I was going to wait until 65 so Medicare would pay for it...my ins wouldn't. My dr said I'd have diabetics by then. I've had many surgeries...run over by a dump truck, head-on collision , rear ended by a semi, 3 C-sections, a virus killing my platelets , a brain hemorrhage , one hip replacement, injections in my neck and back. Needless to say I paid for the surgery myself...6 weeks out...and did it for my health...I have too many scars to do it for looks. I just wanted to be healthier. Im 4'11" My highest weight was 265. I weighed 200 before the surgery and have lost 35 lbs. there comes a point in ones life where you gotta do what you gotta do! I stayed in the hospital 2 nights, stayed at a friends house 1night. And then drove 90 miles home. Don't let fear steal your dream.
