Band07 got a reaction from lsubabe33 in Call the Bariatrics police!
Okay, does anyone have any information stating that alcohol is dangerous too soon after surgery ? All I can find is "it can impact you differently" in other words you feel it a lot faster and of coarse empty calories and the risk of transfer addiction, but all that aside, I'm looking for actual research showing it is a risk to staple line ect. My surgeon had no stipulations on alcohol following the sleeve and in fact said "it's a liquid" you'll be fine, I had 2 margaritas about a month out. However, I recently had a revision so I'm looking for information in order to make an informed decision this time about if I would want to have a drink next weekend while out of town for the Holiday.

Some people may, but I am not some people. Why would educating yourself and others through valid evidence based research ever be a waste of time ?

Well, have not logged on in a few months and I am just a couple of days shy of 6 mo out. Have lost 75# since the start of the two week preop diet. And appx 65# since the surgery day. Have been stalled for about a month. May try induction again in near future to sse if I can get rolling again. No complications. Pretty darn satisfied.

Band07 got a reaction from superslim in What "negatives" are you experiencing?
If only that was true it's impossible to prove a point when some are just too close minded or stubborn to admit they are flat wrong even when you show them medically publicized journals and xray pictures. And just a little reminder to everyone, we all sure heard a lot of false information about the band when it came out too, it was only after years of doing the procedure that we were able to learn the real damage it could do. It will be the same with the sleeve. Not so much damage, but stretching and failure rates for many. Thankfully some surgeons are already taking note of this so that they can properly educate their patients that it IS a possibility, while others sadly still have their head in the sand.

That is not what you are doing at all. You now have another example that you can try to deny. Go ahead, tell sleevenchica that she couldn't possibly have a stretched pouch because you and some other idiot surgeons say it can't happen.

The difference is I'm willing to say that it is not a guarantee that it will happen, I will even say that it is not necessarily common but you refuse to acknowledge the credible research of many others out there, even when there is proof of it !
And , It's not hostility it is lack of tolerance for stubborn, close minded opinions that are so obviously wrong.

Wow, you amaze me. Not only do they refer to the sleeve as a "pouch" many times but the article plainly states "Conclusion
Weight regains following the Sleeve Gastrectomy is a concern. Due to its relative infancy, there exists limited information on long-term outcomes following this procedure. The role of gastric dilatation and long term circulating ghrelin levels in causing weight regain needs to be further clarified. The management options for significant weight regain are emerging and include conversion to a malabsorptive procedure"
there are many other studies out there that say the same thing, I can post more of them if you would like, are also lots of xray pictures showing dilation post sleeve. AND I myself had a sleeve that stretched out !! How you can argue with the facts are beyond me and obviously a waste of my time. It's a shame you are too closed minded to admit what has already been proven by the medical community.

Just something to consider, if your pouch stretched once what makes you think it won't again ? That's why I went with the MGB.

Just a reminder that this is a MINI GASTRIC BYPASS forum. We are sharing information about NEGATIVES about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS operation, not the sleeve, not Gastric Bypass, not the lap band, but negatives about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS. Of couse some may be having revisions TO the Mini Gastric Bypass, and we can share about that, but the purpose of this particular forum is the negatives about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS. We are all anxious to hear about post surgery MINI Gastric bypass patients and the negatives of their experience.
Thanks everyone!

Band07 got a reaction from superslim in Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
I will be four months out on the 23rd. I had a rough start not because of the surgery itself but because I got pneumonia and became serverly dehydrated was basically miserable the first month. That being said, I've lost 30 lbs (which puts me 10lbs from my goal) It's slow but that's expected. I can eat anything/everything and my portion size is really much larger than it should be for someone who has had 3 surgeries! But it's the mgb that keeps me losing. Nothing and I mean NOTHING I eat stays with me too long. I'm in the bathroom A LOT! sometimes as many as 8-10x a day. It's worse when I make bad food choices but really with a 9' bypass even good foods pass through pretty quickly. I've asked others and not everyone expereinces this and it's not really dumping (though I have had that too) because I don't get sick with it or sweat or stomach cramps at least not often. Hope this isn't TMI but it's worth knowing I think because I wasn't prepared for it to be like this! I will try to answer any specific questions you have... Who is doing you surgery?

I'm band to sleeve and soon to be mini gastric bypass on 4/23. I'm hoping 3rd times the charm ! I was very successful with the band but the sleeve has been terrible. Always hungry and can eat anything and everything as much as I want like it never even happened. The 23rd can't get here soon enough !

Band07 got a reaction from Threetimesacharm in Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
I've not lost much weight which is crazy since I'm barely getting in 300 calories a day probably. I know it's just how it goes though, it will catch up. I'm only down about 5 lbs since surgery. Yes the first few months are best for easy weight loss but recovery is important too. I'm just SOOO scared of dumping !! I swear they could have put me out, not done a thing, woke me up and told me I had the procedure and I would lose weight from pure fear of eating! lol

Band07 got a reaction from betrthnever in If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....
No. I knew I was taking a chance just as with any surgery, there are NO guarantees, I took a risk and I feel both my doctor and Allergan had informed me to the best of their knowledge what could possibly happen as a result of my decision at that time. We know a lot more now than we did six years ago obviously but how can they be responsible for information that developed over the years since lap band had been initially implemented?

I'm in no way trying to be insensitive, I actually do some work as a drug/alcohol counselor so I realize what a major issue addiction is and the very real possibility of transfer addiction, however reading your first few posts, drugs were not mentioned and you scared a whole lot of people who were led to believe that ALL of your health issues and personal problems and even demise of physical appearance was 100% due to your weight loss surgery. Now sure, you can say I had weight loss surgery and became a drug addict and that in itself is a tragedy that many will empathize with, however had you not started using, would your bypass had led to the same results ? I for one think it's important to clarify and report the whole story when discussing such serious life threatening complications. Regardless, I'm glad you are doing so much better.

I am also looking to go to MGB from sleeve ( VSG 11-15-11) seeking the mal-absorption component which is key to long term weight loss and maintanence, I have found. I have read that most of the restrictive surgeries, fail over time as the body adjusts to the lowered calorie intake and stalls, with malabsorption component, it seems to allow the continued additional help". Happy to have found this forum!
