mrs.petethecat got a reaction from SherB in One Year Out Today!
Well today I Celebrate my 1 year anniversary and what a year it has been! After surgery in Mexico, I am 80lbs lighter with another 80 to go but I am feeling great! My life is so much more active and I can do so many things that had become a struggle before surgery. I feel like I get stronger every day and my confidence has returned. Exercise has become a part of my life that I actually enjoy. I wanted to post today because, I want to encourage anyone who is thinking of having this surgery to go ahead. My greatest regret is that I did not do it sooner! Wishing you well on your journey.

I am at almost 4 months out. At my 3 month visit with my doctor, I was old to expect the weight loss to slow down at this point. So what's happening to you is the way it's supposed to be and nothing to beat yourself up over. 60 pounds in 4 months is a significant accomplishment - be proud of it.
Seeing a therapist that specializes in eating disorders is a good suggestion that others have given you and something you won't regret doing.

I don't find this particularly helpful, as it is inaccurate. Weights CAN burn as much as cardio, provided you keep your heart rate in the right zone. If you have a personal trainer who just tells you "lose weight, cardio, cardio and more cardio", then you have a BAD TRAINER. And injury should not be a concern if your trainer is monitoring what you do - that is one of the key benefits of having a trainer, to prevent injury! Weight training isn't just 'sculpting', it's building muscle to enable your body to be more efficient at burning the calories you consume, as well as your excess fat
Not everyone chooses to use a personal trainer, nor does everyone need one; but if you do, you should be sure to get one who is knowledgeable, knows or is willing to learn about WLS, and who is willing to partner with you on your goals. I expect as much knowledge, commitment, and dedication from my personal trainer as I do from my NUT and my doctor.
To the OP - I'm 4 months out as well, and feel many of the same challenges. I find I can eat more now than a few months, or even weeks, ago. And carbs like bread, Pasta, etc. will always be a challenge to me. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't. What helps me when I don't is knowing I can easily get back on track, not just by doing the things the other posters have suggested, which definitely work for me, but also by knowing that I've made so many positive changes in my life to this point - taking the leap to get WLS, working out, making good food choices even some of the time - that I KNOW I can make good choices again. I choose to focus on my new found ability to do the right thing for me, and accept that even if I make a poor choice it isn't permanent. The weight WILL come off; sometimes slower, and sometimes faster, but it will be gone.
Sixty pounds is a LOT in four months, and you should be proud of the positive choices you made to get to this point. You've done an amazing job!

My theory on all things in life is that it is not the mistakes we make that define us but the way we recover from those mistakes. I think it was a very strong step for you to post your mistake on the internet for all to see your mistakes and your dedication to do your best to fix it, especially knowing there will always be people who will try to judge you but your own opinion is the most important one. Sounds like you already know what you are doing wrong, now you just need to find the solution that works for you. Not everyone is created the same so the same solutions don't work for everyone. I will say that as you are getting further out you may need to consider increasing your daily calorie intake to find what makes you satisfied but continues your weight loss at the pace you are looking for. I personally recently increased my daily calories from around 900 to around 1200 and also doubled my daily Protein from 70 to 140, as a result my weight loss actually sped up. It is also important to realize if you are exercising a lot you may actually need some carbohydrates, try finding the best quality carbs you can. No matter what try not to let yourself get discouraged, remember why you started your journey and use that same motivation to help get you back on track. Good Luck.

You are five days out, so no, you do not get it.
You are absolutely correct about your ability to eat less resulting in weight loss. Unfortunately, that goes away. The farther out you get, the more you can eat and the more of a variety you can eat. Slider foods don't stick and you can/will find yourself grazing all day, consuming far more calories than you should, hindering weight loss.
I remember sitting where you are knowing I would NEVER be able to eat much again. I was wrong.

Wow. The negativity from some of the users on here is just plain ugly. Some haven't reached the point of struggle and some forget what it felt like. To the person who wrote Just don't eat ****? You dont belong on here. This is a friendly and helpful community. You took the time out of your day to make someone else feel bad for expressing their concerns for their struggle. Shame on you. Life is hard enough without negative people dragging us down. To the poster of the thread, I am only a week out so I have very little advice on the topic, but what I can tell you is hold your head up high and don't let these fools bring you down. We need to stand together...not tear each other apart.

Guys, seriously?? do you think this will never happen to you during the rest of your life? I can't believe some of the nasty posts. SO not helpful.
OP, I'm sure this will happen to many of us. Although I'm not far enough out yet, one of the things that helped me pre-op was being forced to give up the carbs doing the liquid diet. I find that when I eat carbs, I just keep getting hungrier and hungrier. Perhaps you can get yourself back on track by increasing your Protein intake over the weekend? By eating your Protein first?
Sending you good wishes and lots of good luck.

This is a life long struggle and you will highs and lows with the foods that you are eating. I just finished one of those lows but here's the deal..........YOU CAN'T EAT THE TRIGGER FOODS EVER! I am not yelling that at you but nicely emphasizing that to you. You have to constantly look at new recipes and change up your foods. The mundane day in and day out same old foods will just bring you way down. This is a struggle that I am trying very hard to change. This new life requires really does require a lifestyle change and it does take making yourself do it to succeed. If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods around you I would suggest that you check them out. They have all kinds of foods that fit into our diet and are fun to experiment with. Treat yourself to something special that is just for you and not for the rest of the family. Today for lunch I made a caprese salad, cheese cubes W/olives and a fruit medley of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries. That sounds like a ton of food but it was actually very small portions but it looked and tasted awesome and no bad carbs! Carbs are addictive and kill your weight loss. If you aren't getting exercise then try taking a walk or a bike ride this will lift your spirits! I am so glad that you reached out for our help that alone means you are trying! Good luck to you and please keep talking with us!
Just read your previous post and I truly understand where you are right now. It's tough and it sucks really sucks! You were correct to reach out and I hope what I said you don't take the wrong way. It was heartfelt and sincere. Hang in there!

I did not post that looking for "permission" to eat junk. I was sharing my struggle and hoping for some encouragement to get back on track. And partly I was posting just to be accountable to myself by making it public. I was being honest.
I really find that there is a lot of negativity and judgement on this forum.
The best advice I've gotten so far was the suggestion about a therapist. The rest is just nasty and judgmental. And to the person who said "stop eating ****"... You are about 4 days out, right? I hope for your sake you don't struggle like I am at 4 months, but at 4 days food made me sick. That changes over time and it does get harder. I'm not making excuses for my choices. Just being real and looking for some help.

Total BS! My doc said to have your cheat days twice a month and thats it....Getting real tired of people telling me "well its ok to have this once in a while". Then you start thinking to yourself "hmm, you know thats right, I can have it once in a while". Next thing you kno, every thing ur eating becomes a "once in a while type food" lmao.
This whole summer I messed up badly, BBQ's everywhere, hangouts, drinking etc. I was trying to focus on clean eating but everyones like chill out u deserve to have sum type of fun. So thats what I did, chilled out. My mistake bc ofcourse, I had to pay the price of weight gain! (Like 5-10 pounds) Which was a set back for me bc I was only 20 pounds away from my goal and just ended up prolonging it as we all know the last 20 pounds r the HARDEST to lose.
A small stomache is a TOOL! You cannot exspect to be eating junk in small portions and believe that you will have your dream body in no time. I'm so glad I was able to get my ass back in check and get back to work! I now meet with my strength training coach 3x a week and then go to lucille roberts to take a few classes when I can. I focus on Protein Protein protein and very little carbs. Two weeks so far and Im feeling FAB! Yesterday at work we had a pizza party. Everyone had pizza and I watched them while I drank my Premier Protein shake! Someone told me "You can have a slice, one slice wont kill you" I said "It wont kill me and it wont HELP me either. Today isnt cheat day, It can wait"
I'm just feeling unstopabble and Im not tryna hear no one's peer pressure. Just thought I'd warn some of you. Dont ever get too comfortable and dont listen to others. Always do YOUR BODY good! Have a nice day

If you can bring a small pillow to put between you and the arm of the seat. Some people use it to put between the seat belt and your incisions. I flew from San Diego to Tampa with a plane change in Denver. There was a LONG walk to change gates. Make sure you allow plenty of time if you have gate changes.
    Best wishes to you!
