I was so glad to have my u-shaped neck pillow. Made sleeping and everything so much more comfortable in a semi-reclined hospital bed.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this, I was starting to get nervous that I might have a stricture.
I haven't had to use my anti-nausea meds yet, but I'm going to try them now.

When my husband and I first discussed (*ahem* argued) about me getting the surgery, he was angry that I had lost 100 lbs on my own, then put it all back on. He thought I "quit" on that diet. What I tried to explain to him is that LOSING weight isn't my problem. I know I can lose weight. What I can't seem to do on my own is keep it OFF! That's where I need help. That's where I can't do it on my own. That's why I need something that will support modest eating for life.

I had been researching why you can stall and then suddenly lose a bunch of weight in a matter of a day, and I encountered a lot of talk of the "Whoosh Effect." Here is an interesting article about it:

It makes sense! What do you think?

I think your feelings are pretty common post-op. I was pissed at the world for 2 weeks post-op. I've read that with the rapid weight loss, lots of estrogen is released from fat stores and causes emotional highs and lows for many people. I only got the lows. :-(
P.S. You can't eat your husband! solid food is still weeks away. :-)

I know, right?! What's up with the winter weather??
Thank you for sharing your story. I was sleeved 6/17 in Concord, live in SF. Still early in my journey, but sometimes I forget exactly how major the operation was.
    Take good care!

I put it out there! I'm proud of me for standing up for me. I made a choice and think its a great one! I even made it FB official the first day of my liquid diet. I've only mentioned it once. I had 12 people contact me and tell me they too had started the process and were afraid to put it out there. I told my husband, our parents, our siblings, my friends....then FB. Judge away and I will delete them. I no longer have room in my life for unsupportive people. We all deserve better than that! Lucky me no one has said anything negative to me directly or that I've heard about. I don't have room for busy bodies either!

7:45am surgery this morning. Everything went well with the surgery and coming out of the anesthesia was no problem. Took about 2hrs.
But later in the day they noticed I wasn't peeing very much, and by around 10:30pm they came and woke me to see if I could give more. If not, they would have to catheterize me ( Yikes!!!!)
I tried and tried but nothing came out.. So catheter went in . . . What a horribly embarrassing experience!
Nurse was super nice though, kept telling me, hakuna matara, aka no worries.
The goal was to get less than 600 out, but if it was more they would have to leave the catheter, but I only did a little over 500.
So, only a little pee for me this morning, hopefully it will resolve itself soon!

ninanew reacted to SerendipityHappens in Is chicken stock ok for pre-op clear liquid days?
I made it. I boil chicken legs, thighs and especially BACKS in seasoned Water until the meat is done. remove the meat and feed it to my boyfriend.. return the bones to the seasoned Water. add my "goodybag" of vegetable scraps from the freezer (when I'm cooking, I save all my bits and pieces of veggies for stock) Add several garlic cloves. Simmer for five more hours. Strain.refrigerate. take off fat. freeze or eat the stock
If I've chosen to BAKE the chicken instead, I remove all meat from the bones and feed to my boyfriend, then I SCRAPE the drippings in the roasting pan into a pot of water. I get all the good bits in there. all the fat. all the salty brown bits, EVERYTHING.. add the bones and skin.. add my goodybag from the freezer.. simmer for five hours. Strain.refrigerate, take off fat. freeze or eat the stock.

I openly talk about my weight loss surgery to those with questions/concerns. I'm of the camp that WLS is definitely not an easy way out. It really is a tool that you have to take care of and use properly for desired results. I know of many who haven't really changed their relationship with food, thus gaining back much of the weight they lost. My reason for having WLS was to give me a forced behavior modification so that I physically can't overeat - healthy or junk food (ex. eating 6 "Skinny Cow" ice cream bars in one sitting can still make ya fat!). WLS is definitely a tool - why not use it? Life doesn't have to be difficult!
