  1. Whitney1968 - I was readmitted for the nausea and dry heaving because my surgeon was concerned I might pop a staple and get a leak. The dry heaving just would NOT STOP. I ended up in the hospital again for another 3 night/4 day stay. It took two full days to get the nausea under control and for me to be able to eat anything. It took another day for the dry heaving to stop. I'm sorry you had a bowel obstruction, that sounds awful . I hope you are on the mend now! I am on real food now. My taste buds changed after surgery and the Protein shakes were so stinking sweet...they were hard to drink. They are a little easier now, but still sweet. I think once you get on real food you will be amazed at how little it takes to make you feel full. Good luck!
  2. Thanks Kate ExcitedNana - yes I am able to get in all my Protein - NOW. The first few weeks were rough. I have to supplement with a Protein shake though, or else I wouldn't be able to do it. I am doing ok with Water but still having a rough go at getting all my Vitamins and supplements in. I'm ok with the two chewable Multivitamins, but remembering the other 3 doses of Calcium and making sure I schedule them out 2 hours after the Multivitamin is a real drag. So far I haven't made it one day getting in the two multivitamins and 3 calcium. So far the best I've done is the 2 multivitamin and 2 calcium. I'm hoping to do better this week. I think once I'm able to SWALLOW the pills, it will be easier. The chewable vitamins and calcium are just downright sweet and they are tough to get down.
  3. Nurse Lenora I think your pre-op diary is a great idea. I didn't start a pre-op diary, but I have many reminders of past weights, pictures, etc. for me to look at on my journey. I don't ever want to get back to 295lbs again and I while I don't want to dwell on the bad, it's good to have a reminder of how hard it was being that weight. Good luck on your journey!
  4. I had surgery on 8/17. Initially I had a rough time with nausea and dry heaving and was readmitted to the hospital for an additional 4 days. Since then things have been going well. I weighed myself this morning and I was 230.2lbs. I am .2lbs away from a 65lb loss and halfway to my weigh loss goal. I lost 39lbs pre-surgery and in 4 weeks I've lost 26lbs. I am so grateful for this surgery and for my wonderful surgical team. The support I have received from my team, my family and friends who know I've had surgery, and from the people here has been amazing. Thanks!
  5. I love Peanut Butter. ❤️???????????????? I have to ration it when I eat it because it can be a trigger food for me. I am only buying the natural peanut butter now and I measure out exactly 2 tbsp. I am 4 weeks out from surgery and I can have it....but I am trying to stay away as it can be problematic!
  6. Good morning ???? Weighed in this morning at 230.2 WOO HOO!
  7. I had my surgery 8/17. For me I'm not craving soda because I gave it up a long time ago. I am definitely having "head" hunger and being around food that is tempting is tough, especially because I have now had my period twice since the surgery. I haven't been perfect. I did have about 6 tortilla chips yesterday and on another day I did eat a couple of pretzels and a small piece of blueberry bread. Dealing with "head" hunger is hard. Right now I am dog sitting at a friends house and they have EVERYTHING under the sun here to be tempted with. I'm not even going to list the food because it would just make it worse. I did pretty good, and only managed to be tempted by the tortilla chips. I put them in the cabinet so they wouldn't be staring me in the face. I have a problem with food. It's how I got up to 295lbs. I'm trying my best to do better and I'm thinking at this point that I really do need to go back and see the psychiatrist I initially met with to try to resolve some stuff. I don't want things to get out of hand and I DO NOT want to sabotage my weight loss. Best of luck.
  8. Elode - CONGRATULATIONS! I too have traumatic experiences of being "measured" by the tiny Italian women who made my Catholic school uniforms. The only saving grace was that I was always the tallest in my class and was measured LAST. I hope I am as successful as you with losing 100lbs in 10 months. If it takes longer that's fine too. I've followed some of your posts and they are very enlightening to me on my journey. Thank you.
  9. She's not the only one. Carnie Wilson also had weight regain. It's just not easy to maintain and we will have to be diligent. It's easy to let old habits sneak back in, and to have the weight slowly creep up on you. I just had surgery and am in the weight loss phase, but I know once I get to goal that maintenance will be just as hard as this.
  10. I know it's hard, but you have to try to get in your Protein. It's very important! I know it's weird isn't it actually getting FULL?! I think I've been hungry once since the surgery and I'm not even sure I was hungry, I think I was thirsty. I'm doing ok with food and protein it's the darn Vitamins and Calcium. Trying to remember to take them all is mind boggling, but I am trying. So far I've gotten both multi-vitamins and one calcium, but I'm supposed to get in 3 calcium. It's A LOT to remember AND in addition to the Water and not eating/drinking before and after meals. SHEESH! Good luck!
  11. It's tough. I'm not sure but I can relate. I was wearing a pair of size 22W pants and as I walked across the yard (thank goodness I was in the back of the house!) they fell down to my ankles. My 20W's are loose, and I could probably wear an 18 or 18W but for some reason I still put the 20's on. I think the brain takes a while to catch up. Sometimes the only way I can tell I've lost weight is in a picture or by trying something on. If you figure out the answer, let me know
  12. Caprice, Don't let the nurses random UNKIND words get to you. You will be healthier, you will be happier AND IF you should have some excess skin - you will deal with it You are 27....I'm 44....You have youth on your side skin wise, so that's a plus! If a little saggy skin will mean I can live longer and be happier then so be it. If I need a skin surgery or two later....then maybe I'll have it done, maybe not. Careless comments can derail anyone. Don't let them! GOOD LUCK!
  13. I'm in . CW 234.4, GW 220
  14. ylluz I agree with the other posters there is no way you could've gained 4lbs. I didn't weigh at all until my first post-op and now I'm only going to weigh 1x a week or else I WILL DRIVE MYSELF CRAZY! It's just not worth the aggravation to me. I wish you well on your journey fellow 8/17 sleever ????
  15. The rapid weight loss causes havoc on your cycle. I got my period early too and I have read where some women have it for much longer or even heavier than usual. It can take a few months to get back on track. If it's really bad you might want to call your OBGYN.
  16. Fantastic job you should be proud
  17. I was sleeved on 8/17 and had my first post-op today. Everything is going well and I have lost 18lbs since my surgery date. I'm thrilled with the loss. I purposely didn't weigh myself until I went to see the doctor today. I will probably weigh once a week from now on. I don't want the scale to be my only measurement of success. I got the go ahead for exercise today and I'm back walking. So thrilled to be advancing the diet a little and adding some new foods. Hope everyone else is doing well. Since 4/1 with the pre-op I am down 52 pounds! ???????????? this is how I feel today!
  18. Hi. Before having the surgery on 8/17 I was losing weight on pre-op diet and I got to a weight where I plateaued. I was stuck on the same weight for about 5 weeks. My nutritionist asked me if I had been that weight before for a period of time and I had. He called it a "set point" weight... A weight our bodies had been comfortable at. I was able to break through the plateau by kicking up the exercise. I had been walking, so I mixed it up with kickboxing. Getting my heart rate up really helped with moving the scale. Don't be discouraged. Try some different things. Do yourself a favor and stop the emotional eating though. I can't do kickboxing now And probably won't be able to for another 4 weeks but I'm looking forward to getting back to it.
  19. Hi, I was sleeved on 8/17. I am not regretting it but it, but it hasn't been an easy journey for me so far. I was readmitted to the hospital the day after being discharged. I was dry heaving and had severe nausea. It took a couple of days to get everything under control and there were some moments when I felt so sick that I prayed it wouldn't be like his forever. I was in the hospital an additional three nights and I am feeling so much better. I am having a hard time drinking protein shakes as my taste buds have definitely changed and I didn't think it was possible! It's still relatively new and I am trying my best to do the best job I can with this new tool. Give it some time. Best of luck to you on your journey.
  20. I am consciously NOT weighing myself until my first post-op visit on 9/3. I don't want to be lured by the scale either way. It's hard but I'm sticking to my guns. I don't know if after that I will weigh weekly ... Maybe. I definitely think the reason I threw up was because I didn't have the vitamin with a meal. Lesson learned! I won't make that mistake again. Still having a hard time getting a handle on the small meals, vitamins, and sip sip sipping. I do not want to get dehydrated. Just need to be ,more conscious of what I'm doing.
  21. I hear you YLLUZ. Everything tastes too sweet to me too. Try to get your fluid in so you don't get dehydrated. Could you try adding protein to cottage cheese or r Low fat ricotta?
  22. Hi guys. I just had a weird thing happen. I hope this is not a start of what happened to me before. I just drank some water (maybe too fast?) and realized I needed to take my vitamin. I took it..it's very sweet chewable...and immediately felt like I was going to vomit and I did. I don't feel nauseous now thank goodness. Maybe it was just too soon. I'm going to lay low for the rest of the day and try to get some more water in later and some broth. I'm off until mid Sept. I didn't think I would need all that time but now I'm glad it's an option considering I've been having a bit of a hard time. Hope you all are doing well.
  23. Hello everyone. I was just sleeved on 8/17. I bought a couple of food items from a bariatric store to try them. One was a cream of broccoli Soup and I bought two boxes of bariatric hot chocolate. I also bought unflavored Protein - Syntrax nectar. The soup was gross. Maybe if I made it with chicken broth instead of Water it could possibly be good. The cocoa was pretty good but it's expensive. My question is - could I just buy a SF cocoa I like and add the unflavored Protein powder to it? Anyone else do this? Any other tips or tricks for getting in enough protein and not breaking the bank? The Syntrax Nectar was the least expensive unflavored protein option at the store and I had heard good things about it on the board here. 40 servings for $18.95
  24. Guys, I don't know how you went back to work today. I'm still so wiped. You must be made out of VERY STRONG STUFF! I am struggling to get in all the water, it's a real chore. The other struggle is the vitamins....vitamin with iron at breakfast, wait 2 hours calcium, wait two hours another vitamin with iron, wait two hours another calcium, and finally after another 2 hours another calcium. This is in addition to getting in enough protein. It's exhausting - mentally and physically. GOOD NEWS (and maybe TMI) but I now can say I am no longer constipated! WOO HOO. What a relief. I did two days of Miralax. It wasn't painful, thank goodness. I'm just wondering if I should keep the Miralax up or wait? I'm not on any heavy pain meds. I might just see what happens. I did some walking today. I also got a ride up to a place called "Nashua Nutrition" in Nashua, NH that just sells bariatric shakes, bars, vitamins, etc. I bought some cream of "broccoli" soup, and two boxes of hot chocolate. One is regular hot chocolate, and the other is "assorted flavors" like mint, etc. I thought it might be nice to have a hot drink in the morning. I'm getting a little tired of drinking/eating sweet things. At least I will be able to add more savory stuff in 10 days when I meet with the NUT. Hope everyone is doing well.
  25. I would call your surgeon's office and tell them what's going on. Maybe they can give you something for the nausea. Don't suffer!
