I've never been big on running, mainly because I never could run too well, but doing a 5k with my friends is something I can't wait to do! I live in snohomish county and there is always a cool run going in around the Seattle area!

That's Great! I'm running a 5k in April with friends and bought matching camo tanks and butterfly wings. (a tutu was our other option). Hope I'm not far behind in posting I'm down 100lbs. Awesome job

I was also 253 on the day of surgery. Things have been going a bit slow, but I hope to have similar success.

My motivation was:Evelyn, Aiden, Jolynn and Brady Ann...their parents Chris and Geri, Sarah and Adam. My kids grandparents didn't live to see them grow up, graduate high school and get married so I am making sure I get that opportunity. Bad habits are pushed aside and it's a new start, new adventure. A bit mushy and I apologize but I am happier and healthier every day and it only will get better.

Wags reacted to Recycled in Curse these stalls....or maybe not
Instant gratification. So typical of today's society. I want it now. Before I knew anything about WLS, it sounded like the magic solution as well. Get the surgery and I'll be thin again. What could be easier. However, I did learn through the pre-op stage it would be a longer trek and mostly require my effort to get the weight off. OK, not magic, but still, I'll be thin quickly.
Jump ahead a few months and I'm post-op and lost a bunch in the first couple of weeks. Fantastic, right?! Ehhhhh......what up with this "stall" BS. I have gone over two weeks and not lost a ounce. No problem.....I can beat this....I work harder, eat less and voila, I lost a pound. OK, not a lot but I beat it, right.....Ehhhhhhh.!! Another stall. Are you kidding me? This ain't what I signed on for. Now what. Here's where that little red guy with the horns sittin' on your shoulder starts in with the......"Give up" - "see, it doesn't work" - "have some cookies" - You made a great effort, but that's all your gonna get"... (and there's no little guy on the other shoulder sweetly telling me to try harder.....what gives).
So it's up to me. I'm thinking about eating the good stuff. But then I think about all the effort I've put into these loooong stalls. Extra exercise, staring at the TV commercials of food and drooling, looking around to see if anyone would see me slip a piece of candy.......But I didn't.
I thought about every pound I earned. The long hard effort it took to get it off and how this few seconds of gratification would wipe out all that struggle and victory. NO WAY. I made it this far. It show I can do it. So I trudge on. I have already beat you stall. I didn't give in. I will get there. I've learned now it won't be instant gratification. It will be hard earned and prove to me I can be a loser.....(a loser, wait that can't be right)......
I mean a winner. You know what I mean.
So, do I curse these stalls?? Maybe at first I did, but now I know they challenged me, made me keep my hard earned losses in perspective and showed me I can beat them. You will too.

Jallsop, I just saw that you are still pre-op and I wanted to say that the typical day I shared is mine now that I'm 8 months out. When I first started I followed the diet progression to the letter! It was so important to me to make sure my stomach healed properly AND to maximize weight loss. Calories back then were 200-300. Didn't move to over 700 until about 6 months out. :-)

Thank you jallsop! Food wise I usually eat between 700 - 900 calories. I try to eat at least 60 grams of Protein and less than 50 grams of carbs. I track it all on MyFitnessPal. I think that is the key for me. Even if I eat over my guidelines, it is planned and I log it. Also I have had to be really patient with stalls. My weight loss has been mostly stalls with intermittent weight loss. A typical day for me might include: Breakfast: 1 egg and 2 pieces of bacon Lunch: Soy protein chips and fresh salsa Dinner: 3 ounces of taco meat with cheese, tomatoes and lettuce Snack: Protein hot chocolate I like meat, cheese, eggs, bacon, yogurt, and protein Snacks like soy chips and protein hot chocolate. I eat a lot of fresh salsa because it satisfies with spicy taste and has veggies :-) I also drink a TON of diet green iced tea from Sonic. Yum!
