I am an "in your face, no holds bar person" so my advice is to sit her down, when its just the two of you and tell her how you feel. Tell her how it makes you feel when she comments. If she continues, I would ignore her. Let her deal with her own issues and not make them yours. I have a cousin that is very envious of my weight loss. She says I took the easy way out.. (ohh. that made me really mad)). I ignored her for a very long time, then finally had to say something when I purchased some really nice jeans that I looked pretty good in.. and she said " Oh you think your cute" and I said.." Why yes I do".. She commented about not going out to diner with me because I don't eat anything. That's when I finally sat her down and we had a heart to heart. She didn't realize how her comments made me feel until I told her. Since she and I are really close ( as I am sure you and your friend are close).. She was able to reign in her negative comments. My advice, sit her down and have a good heart to heart.

Some people are highly unchangeable. Trying to help them change is an exercise in futility.
When I encounter such people that I want to change but cannot... I change myself.
I can change how I react.
I decide what reaction would be the best one that would maintain my dignity and peace and still not be malicious to the antagonist. I write the screenplay. Then I turn on the actor in me and react that way. Sometimes I channel Cary Grant or John Wayne, (without the speech mannerisms ). Enough times in performance and the doofus toxin no longer affects me.
Acting is not lying. It is calling up another phase of your personality or tapping into influences that have formed it.

HappyCat reacted to LipstickLady in The annoying new habits that came to be with my sleeve...
Oddly enough, some people have considered me quite annoying in the past. I have no idea why as I am pretty darn close to perfection. That said, my sleeve has has taught me some really cool tricks that seem to get on the nerves of my family, for reasons I just cannot fathom.
First, they seem to barely tolerate my habit of hopping on and off my scale 5-10 times several times a day and shouting out, "Now I've lost 2 ounces, now I've gained 4 ounces, this time I am down 3, ooops, now I am up 4!!!" or whatever my undecisive scale seems to want to weigh me at. Instead of getting a new, more accurate scale, I consider this step exercise and the freedom to choose my weight for the day. They are especially unamused at my insistence of telling them how much a "movement" might have weighed if I am lucky enough to have one.
My second bad habit is stalking strangers through the store, staring at their arses, and asking whomever with me if mine is as big/small/round/high/perky/droopy as whomever my current victim's might be. One kid finds it creepy, the other (who obviously loves me more) is much more helpful but often runs around to look at my arse then the other person's causing me to wonder if anyone might be noting this strange behavior. Mr.Lipstick has taken to asking me if I care if he checks out the hot blonde/brunette/random Hooter girl/etc. instead of the middle aged mom that much more resembles my persona.
My newest habit is picking up random pairs of pants at home or the store and and exclaiming, "LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!! Can you believe that MY ASS fits in these??!!?!?!!! THEY LOOK SO SMALLLLLLL!! I must go try them on right now just to make sure." as if my ass suddenly grew six inches since taking off said pants 5 minutes ago.
I constantly amaze myself. Every single day. I love this sleeve.

It is really hard at times, my week has been a little up the creek. Here's what helped me: I reminded myself of my success so far and the fact I'm only halfway through my journey. On the recommendation of two other vets, I have upped my fats in the morning and prior to exercise. So maybe like half an avocado with my boiled egg, today I had coconut oil in my porridge.. (Waiting for my order of steel oats to arrive.. So normal porridge for a change), I tried a Protein Shake as my snack.. With Peanut Butter. So just tiny things like that. My personal trainer always tells me there is no point in busting my butt at the gym and then eating badly!! It's not just a case of calories in and calories out.. We need to fuel our bodies with good calories. He also tells me exercise is 20% and nutrition is 80%.. This means we have to have a sound food base.. This journey was never going to be easy but don't get down on yourself. This for me tends to start a self destructive spiral. Ok I ate whatever but my next meals today are gonna be 100% on target!! This is your journey and I know it's cliche but you are captain of your ship., steer yourself out those rough seas so you can enjoy the beauty of the calm. It's alternative but hypnotherapy has really helped me with forming intelligent relationships with food, making sensible eating choices, eating only when I'm hungry etc etc. I do appreciate it's not for everyone. Good luck at getting back on track!

My theory on all things in life is that it is not the mistakes we make that define us but the way we recover from those mistakes. I think it was a very strong step for you to post your mistake on the internet for all to see your mistakes and your dedication to do your best to fix it, especially knowing there will always be people who will try to judge you but your own opinion is the most important one. Sounds like you already know what you are doing wrong, now you just need to find the solution that works for you. Not everyone is created the same so the same solutions don't work for everyone. I will say that as you are getting further out you may need to consider increasing your daily calorie intake to find what makes you satisfied but continues your weight loss at the pace you are looking for. I personally recently increased my daily calories from around 900 to around 1200 and also doubled my daily Protein from 70 to 140, as a result my weight loss actually sped up. It is also important to realize if you are exercising a lot you may actually need some carbohydrates, try finding the best quality carbs you can. No matter what try not to let yourself get discouraged, remember why you started your journey and use that same motivation to help get you back on track. Good Luck.

This is a life long struggle and you will highs and lows with the foods that you are eating. I just finished one of those lows but here's the deal..........YOU CAN'T EAT THE TRIGGER FOODS EVER! I am not yelling that at you but nicely emphasizing that to you. You have to constantly look at new recipes and change up your foods. The mundane day in and day out same old foods will just bring you way down. This is a struggle that I am trying very hard to change. This new life requires really does require a lifestyle change and it does take making yourself do it to succeed. If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods around you I would suggest that you check them out. They have all kinds of foods that fit into our diet and are fun to experiment with. Treat yourself to something special that is just for you and not for the rest of the family. Today for lunch I made a caprese salad, cheese cubes W/olives and a fruit medley of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries. That sounds like a ton of food but it was actually very small portions but it looked and tasted awesome and no bad carbs! Carbs are addictive and kill your weight loss. If you aren't getting exercise then try taking a walk or a bike ride this will lift your spirits! I am so glad that you reached out for our help that alone means you are trying! Good luck to you and please keep talking with us!
Just read your previous post and I truly understand where you are right now. It's tough and it sucks really sucks! You were correct to reach out and I hope what I said you don't take the wrong way. It was heartfelt and sincere. Hang in there!

You can't take back what you've already done, so the only way to go is forward, recommit to making right choices and if you have junk in the house you should not eat, get rid of it. You can do this!

HappyCat reacted to LipstickLady in How to educate my teen about my surgery
I simply told my girls (13 and 15), that as they knew, I had struggled with my weight and dieting for a long time and that I had decided to have surgery so that I could get to a healthy weight. I allowed them to watch the EMMI videos my doctor sent and gave them the link to the Youtube video (one did, one gagged at the thought) if they wanted to see it. I also told them they could come to the doctor and ask any questions they wanted (declined).
They were excited for me because they knew I was excited about it. Both of them are very healthy but very weight conscious which I know is totally my fault with all the diet kicks I've gone on.
Both are thrilled with our new menu and thrilled with all the time we've been spending together exercising lately. Today was a gorgeous day so we went to a middle school, jogged (I did 1/2 mile!!) and then walked, we did a p90x video together, and then took the pup up to the high school and ran the football field with her. It was fun and exhausting! We are all getting stronger and healthier together while spending quality time with each other.

Well, no one can make the decision for you and 27 years old is an adult so I would say, do your research and make YOUR decision. But I will say that I'm 49 years (young NOW) and I wish I had done it sooner.

HappyCat reacted to Taels2013 in Changing my mindset...
Talk about changing mindset! This is embarrassing but I'll tell you anyway...one of the things that I used to do a lot was stop at McDonald's when I had to drive more than 30 minutes...my commute was 50 minutes each way so it was mcDs sometimes twice a day. No wonder I gained 60 lbs in 3 years. Anyway, I'd get a double cheeseburger and coffee. Two weeks after surgery, I had to make a two hour drive. I found myself at a mcDonalds drive through with the coffee and the cheeseburger. Here's the thing, I did not wake up to what I was doing until after I paid and drove away. I opened the burger, it smelled so rank and disgusting, and I couldn't eat it even if I wanted to! I pulled over and tossed it in the trash. The coffee went too. The point of my story is that habits are hard to break, especially the ones that were comforting. Eating, then feeling like crap about it, is also a bad habit that needs to be broken. I ate a tablespoon of Peanut Butter the other day and enjoyed the hell out of it...and got the guilties so bad! Then I acknowledged that with the peanut butter, I had only 300 calories the whole day. I decided that it is ok for me to enjoy the food I eat now, because I should enjoy nourishing my body. It's pretty hard and painful to overindulge with the sleeve, right? Hope this helps.

If your friends are really not helpful,or good, why keep them?Remember this journey is about you, You have lost 40 pounds, they don't care. You give yourself the kudos. They are incapable of it for what ever reason. I found out a long time ago, if friends are not respectful of our relationship, it isn't worth it. As a woman with a new body you will feel differently about yourself and will find other friends who enhance your relationships, not tear them down. Congratulations on your 40 pound weight loss. Now go lose (,how much do your friends weigh) that many pounds more this week.

I think you have been amazingly successful! First a huge weight loss, while staying in school and preparing for a better life / long term career puts you in the "winner!" column. Yes, you are living in bad situation, and you are missing having supportive people around you, and that can feel overwhelming at times. Be glad that you are past the bad relationship, and that you have a bright future ahead of you. Your feelings are temporary and your other challenges can be fixed! Hang in there, finish your degree and the world will be yours for the taking! You might check into counseling services at your school. Most schools have people available to assist with the emotional bumps in the road!

They are awesome, but do not have to be dry. melons are excellent Snacks this time of year, and cucumbers with a tart yogurt are most awesome. Hummus, seaweed, nom, nom. dates pureed and a dollop on a frozen peach sliced thin is just perfect in the heat.
