Who Dat 70461 got a reaction from orrio82 in what is normal?
I was sleeved exactly 2 months prior to my wife. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications and no moodier than normal. My wife on the other hand...she had two hernias repaired, had terrible reflux issues and also a problem getting enough Fluid intake. It took about a month for me to sleep with both eyes closed (in her state of mind, she was not to be trusted! ). However she is doing great now and that early period is a distant memory.

While all is good and right in the universe now, she had mood swings that would drive me batshit crazy! (We live in the South, batshit crazy is proper English...and a valid description of her frame of mind at the time! )

You will just have to get through the gettin' through and don't worry, all will be fine. In the meantime, you may want to avoid stupid people, bad drivers and sharp objects.

    Good luck on your journey!

The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic!

This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now!

I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better!

Now, that period of time is a distant memory!

I am down 120 lbs. and my wife is down 80 lbs. (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!).

You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT! ) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are falling off, to hell with what the number is on the scale! LOL).

The first few months will be an emotional roller coaster...don't be afraid to use the folks on this site as a sounding board, I think you'll find this is pretty much a judgement-free zone!

By the way, you're in for one heck of a journey and there's an incredible new you, waiting on the horizon!

    Godspeed for a quick recovery!

Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I go on Tuesday also and I have been feeling a little panicked too. I think that is pretty normal. I can't wait to see us all on the other side and feeling great. Although, I'm prepared for pain and the emotional roller coaster that will be the first couple of months.

I grew tired of the various SF drink mixes fairly quick as well. I started cutting bottled Water about 1/3 with cranberry juice, cran-grape juice, various diet cran-whatever juice cocktail (they sell almost cran-everything nowadays! ). Made it much more palatable.
    Good luck!

This is an older person responding....... I quit setting "I want to lose 'so many" pounds by THIS date or THAT date." Does it really matter if you lose 40 pounds by NYE or only 20 pounds by NYE? I have finally started to focus on living and doing my best, and less on reaching a goal weight by a certain date..... with all that being said, I'd maybe add daily CARDIO for calorie burn. Try including HIIT's. Best Wishes!

I would argue the main benefit of wls is setting you up for maintainance. I am nearly 3 years from my surgery and in retrospect it didn't really matter how quickly I got to goal. What matters is that i am still under my goal.

The staples in your sleeve stay forever. Healing is going to vary, but I've heard everything from 2 to 6 months. It was about 4 months before I felt "normal" as far as sleeve sensitivity and tolerance goes.

I second the Syntrax Nectar products! Many of the fruit flavors mix well with Water and I found them easier to get down than the milky ones for the first month or 2 post op. Just don't go out and buy a boatload pre-op! When you find one you like, get enough for your pre-op requirements and maybe your first week post-op. MANY of us experience a "taste change" after surgery and you don't need to invest in buckets of stuff you may not like later!

I am much older than (45 year old) and 10 months out from surgery...
First, I wish I would have had the courage to do what you're doing at your age. It would have saved me decades of being unhappy, years of self loathing, being insecure, years of damage to my body due to obesity, etc. Had I known then what I know now, I would have done this surgery sooner.
Second, it's completely normal to be nervous/scared/insert emotion here this close to surgery. I was. But again, knowing what I know now, this is totally worth it.
I almost backed out of surgery the night before and the morning of, right there in admitting. Fear didn't win that day and I'm thankful it didn't.
At 10 months out and 45 years old I am finally living the life I was meant to lead. I'm active, I'm happy, I'm learning to be content, I have a better relationship with my family...wow, I could go on for a long time, but you get the point. My life is so much better now than it was a year ago.
You got this! We'll see you on the losers' bench in a few days! Best of luck to you!

Who Dat 70461 reacted to CowgirlJane in I am feeling resentful
    okay... this is a vent!!!!
I love that both my grown sons are back home with me... such joy it brings! I come from "big family" and living alone just seems so abnormal. My whole life I have been buried in people and had to seek solitude...more recently, I have had to work to seek companionship and it has been hard for me to live alone. I love that they are here. My EX shows up alot because he is very close to his step sons. That is mixed for me because I care for him so deeply but we are NOT good for each other so I often leave when he comes because I want him to have good "man times" with my boys. He often shows them how to do man stuff like replace a light switch..okay, I am being a wimp, but we always had a real division of labor in my world and I miss not having a partner around who can do the little stuff that puzzles me.
I really really value that since their dad is a complete loser and I so appreciate that their step-dad is a real man and steps up to the job of teaching and leading them in their lives. I am blessed that he still shows up even though we haven't been an "item" for a very long time.
But I digress... what I resent is that I can't eat like a man. this is so hard. Suddenly, there is bread, there is delicsious rice blends, there is deep fried, there is pizza, there is beer. There are CARBS!!!! They don't make the male members of my family fat, but they fatten me up like a steer at the stockyard.
I am pissed, annoyed and just plain irrate.
However, I sure as heck like weighing in the 140s more than in the 250-300+++ range.... so, I remind myself of that and persevere even though i feel like I have been eating like a farmhand lately! GRRRRR
    Vent over.
