I've never read that VSG is not effective for low bmi patients. To the contrary, every study I've found indicates low bmi patients loose a higher percentage of their excess weight than those with bmi over 35.

Here is just one study. This particular one only followed a little over 100 subjects, but there are many other studies with a higher number of participants. I'm on my phone and have a toddler crawling on me demanding Breakfast, otherwise I would find the other studies.

Exactly! I'm at 32 bmi as of a week ago (meh...lol) and I'm pre-diabetic and borderline cholesterol and bp with PCOS and annovulatory cycles and have IUGR babies yada yada. This last pregnancy I became severely Gestational Diabetic.....and was shocked for the life of me! That wasn't even an option last time! My how things changed in 3 years, that's just awful!

Great post! I have 35.2 bmi, and I have hbp, diabetes and high cholesterol. .. I' m at the beginning of the whole process with the surgeon...wish me good luck! Hang in there!!!

Has anyone had surgery with a Dr. Daniel Herron at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City ? Have been going through the process and now awaiting approval from the insurance company.......thanks,,,,

My information was submitted to insurance on 4/30 and approved 5/3 (BCBS) and 5/6 (MassHealth). My surgery is scheduled for 5/21 at Newton Wellesley Hospital. Yikes!!!

I was afraid too of going to Mexico, what if I had complications, what if my PCP wouldn't see me anymore, what if what if, and I finally decided, what if I don't do this surgery, what if I just keep going down the same road...? What if I keep getting bigger and bigger, and I realized, if I had to change PCP's, so be it! If I had complications, then I would get treatment. I used Dr. Lopez through ALighterMe.com, I had a great experience, I am 6 months post op yesterday, and I am already down 81 pounds. I have not looked back a single time. I didn't tell my PCP until after I had the surgery, and he was actually excited for me! I have had my blood work done several times, it was covered by my insurance, I was lucky not to have any complications, and I have used these boards as a serious crutch/learning place to keep on track. Good luck whatever you decide!! I took the plunge, and am SO happy I did!

I had the same question. Its seems as though you fully recover at the hospital with Aceves, along with him being more one on one and more attentive than some of the others. He's been a doctor I believe for the longest and has lots of accolades. That being said I'm going to Garcia on May 31st at Florence/Oasis Hospital. Garcia is just as qualified and I fill very confident in his ability to take care of me. I'm going to pray hard as I have done with every surgery I've had and hope for the best!
