  1. Thanks! I sure hope so.
  2. Hi Shannon! I am in Tampa. I am having my band done by Dr. Murr @ Tampa General. How did everything go w/yours?? How are you feeling?
  3. CONGRATULATIONS on getting approved!! Keep us posted on how your journey goes.
  4. I also had to complete 6 months of supervised dieting and my doctor told me that they want to make sure that you can stick w/a program regardless of it being successful or not. It shows them that you are not going to give up on the band if it doesn't give you immediate results. BTW I have United Health Care.
  5. I have thought about this as well. I figured what most have said you learn quickly or you suffer the consequences Qualification Hi Candy! Welcome! Your case sounds very similar to mine. I do not have any other medical issues right now but obesity. My BMI is my only qualification and it is right @ 40. My only concern is my height. Sometimes it was reflected as 5’2” and other times correctly as 5’1”, which makes a difference on what my BMI would be. I am further along in the process though because I have already attended all the medically required classes and received clearances from the psychologist and nutritionist. My PCP has also provided my letter of medical necessity based on my BMI and family history of heart disease. I am just waiting now to go and meet w/the surgeon to go over everything and have my ppw submitted to the insurance company. I hope they will approve it and not give me a hard time about my BMI because of how my height was documented.

  7. CONGRATULATIONS rjonesii on your band and weight loss so far!! Keep up the good work!! __________________
  8. CONGRATULATIONS on your band!! I wish you a speedy recovery!!
  9. Wow so many different stories about UHC. I have UHC Choice Plus as well and I have been told that our policy does cover the surgery 100%. I randomly call and ask over & over again just to be sure since I know that you get a different person each time you call. I also had the surgical coordinator call and verify I had coverage and each time I have received the same answer "yes" 100%. I have not submitted any ppw to my insurance company yet but I have my consult w/my surgeon on Aug. 13th and at that time they will submit my ppw. I have gathered all of my documents required by my insurance company so hopefully they will approve me the first time around.
  10. CONGRATULATIONS to both of you!!! I hope you both have a speedy recovery and great success w/your bands!!
  11. Welcome MissyKatz! Congratulations on starting the process. I am in the process as well leading up to having my ppw submitted to my insurance for approval for the surgery. I like to think I am close to the final step before my surgery since I already have my consult appt w/my surgeon on Aug 13th and @ that time they will submit my ppw to my insurance company. Good Luck w/your journey and keep us posted!
  12. Good Luck Cherie tomorrow on your surgery. Please log on when you feel up to it and let us know how things went.
  13. Congratulations to you on your approvals how exciting!!
  14. Thanks JC! I am looking forward to getting my band and getting this excess weight off and reaching a healthy weight. I see you are on myspace too. Where did you go Kayaking? I will have to check out your pictures
  15. Karen, Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. I am in the mid stages of working towards getting my band and look forward to reaching a milestone of my own. Your story is very informative and realistic. THANKS again for being so open & honest about your struggles to get to where you are today. HAPPY BANDAVERSARY!!!!
  16. I am in the process of meeting my insurance requirements. I have United Health Care and they do cover the procedure. I just have to do all the leg work before submitting my paperwork to them. I would not go with the first thing someone tells you @ the insurance company. It's worth a try if you have the time & patience. However if you have the on hand to pay for the surgery out of pocket I probably would to avoid the insurance hassle.
  17. Hi! I am in Tampa and wanted to drop in and meet some others in the area. I am in the process of meeting the requirements for my insurance to approve my surgery. Hopefully I will have the surgery done @ Tampa General Hospital by Dr. Murr. Has anyone else here had their surgery done by him? I would love to meet some of the locals if there is ever a meet & greet scheduled.
  18. :welcome: I am fairly new here too but have found this site to be very informative. I am sure you will as well.
