1. I have not had a revision but I was considering Lap Band Surgery until I went for my consult with the surgeon. I left with many questions that I needed to answer truthfully. I ended up going back for a 2nd consult with the surgeon a couple weeks later to switch from Lap Band to RNY Bypass. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> For me personally I had to take a long and hard look at the reasons I was overweight. Why do I keep failing each time on every diet I try? I have read many, many times that if you have a sweet tooth that the band might not be a good tool to choose. I know that is my #1 problem. I have loved sweets since I was a kid and if I can eat them with the band without any consequences, I know that I will eventually. I could not allow myself to have a surgery that I knew deep down in my heart I might fail. Even though I was terrified of having the RNY Bypass and still have fears about having the surgery I know its’ the better option for me. I hope you are able to figure out what is causing you to think the band is not working for you and able to work it to the fullest. Surgery is not something to take lightly and I personally do not want to undergo any more surgeries than I have to. I wish you the best of luck and success with your tool.

    UHC Choice plus-won't cover?

I just wanted to give those of you that have United Healthcare Choice Plus that there is hope that your surgery can be approved if covered under your policy. I was just approved today after my ppw was submitted just last week for the first time. I did everything they told me I would need to qualify for the surgery and I am now awaiting a surgery date. Good Luck to everyone on your surgery journey!

    New to the sight

:welcomeB: I am in the process of getting the band as well and I love this site. I really want to hear both the positive and the negatives. I am hopeful that my experience will be one w/o complications but knowing of the possible complications will educate me to be more prepared of what warning signs to look out for. Stick around for awhile and get a feel for the entire site. I think you will find it very informative. Good Luck w/your decision!

    Denied..& Have Trouble Financing!!

shygirl  I am sorry to hear about your struggles to get financed for the surgery. Do you have a 401K that you can borrow the money from? Or perhaps you own a home and can do an equity loan? Sorry I can not be of more help. Perhaps there are others on here that have been through the same thing and can be of more assistance. Hang in there.

:welcomeB: to LBT! I am hoping to be banded in the next several weeks too. I have heard different views on the Pre-Opt Diets. There is a thread here just about the pre & post liquid diets you might want to check out. I have been reading it myself to get a feeling of what to expect. You might find some helpful answers there. Good Luck w/your upcoming surgery!!

I'm a newbie with LOTS of questions!

:welcomeB: Sorry I can not answer most of your questions since I have not been banded myself. But I am sure you will get a lot of replies to your post. As for cooking for your family and satisfying yourself. I can tell you that I have done a number of diets in the past and when I was following Atkins I prepared meals for my family and I just ate the foods I was allowed. Example... baked fish, broccoli & cheese and rice. I had the fish and broccoli but not the rice. My family was able to have the full course. It wasn't hard at all. I just learn to make small adjustments.

Ten years with the Lap Band

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :clap2::clap2: It is great to hear about your decade with the band. Thanks so much for coming and posting your story with us. Do you have any before & after pictures? I was wondering now that you are at your goal weight how does maintenance work.... do you still have a certain level of fill or do you still have a fill from time to time? Is Dr. Ren that performed your surgery @ NYU the same Dr. Ren that co-wrote the book with Khalia Ali? Thanks again for sharing your journey with us and letting those of us who are yet to get banded know that this is a life long tool that will work with us as long as we need and want it to.

    Greetings & Salutations to All!

I can completely understand wanting to lose the weight naturally if you can. Is this your first attempt @ weight loss? For me I have lost and gained the same 70 pounds too many times to mention. So the band is just the tool I need to finally stop the yo-yo cycle. Have you done a search on some of the other Lap band forums to see if you can find others who have used your doctor before? There are a lot of other lap band forums online.
