Sleeve vs bypass
Talk to a surgeon who routinely does sleeves. He or she can explain the risks and the advantages of the surgery with the benefit of their experience. I chose the sleeve as many others did because it doesn't involve operating/rerouting any organ other than my stomach. I ate too much so making it smaller to hold less food seemed logical. No problems and no regrets. Keep researching until you are happy you have enough info on the mind of surgery and the surgeon before you decided. Good luck!

My height may play the factor in which procedure I have....=/
What a lot of nonsense! Find another surgeon - if he actually believes this, who trained him??? 5'2" and very happy with my weight loss....

Okay, seriously?! :/
Arts137, am sure you meant no offence by what you thought was a throw away humorous comment. But this isn't just an American site, it's global. And, for some of us, the Irish potato famine isn't something to joke about in this context when so many died. Just thought I would say....

Nearly a goner...but so happy!
SassyTink, you are right, don't remember the last time anyone looked at me like that!!!! I looked too big and solid for anyone to worry about me doing myself a mischief, lol. Beach Lover, this is right up there at the top of my memories of this incredible journey in the last six months. Alongside wearing my first dress since 1990, having my first date in 33 years and my 22 year old son's comment (not having seen me for a month) "omg, mum, you've got legs and I really mean LEGS!". Love my sleeve !!!!

I am laughing now, was more embarrassed at the time. Didn't realise how much I used my weight for ballast!!!

Nearly a goner...but so happy!
Went to the recycling centre today. They have huge metal bins for you to put clothes in for recycling. There's a chute door high up and you reach up and pull down. It's pretty stiff and you need to really pull down on the handle with two hands to get it open and stuff the clothes in. I have done this on many occasions in the past. As a short person, I jump up to catch the handle, then use my weight to bring it down. Not done it for a couple of months though. Today, l jumped, grabbed the handle and pulled, And pulled. But i just ended up hanging there. Eventually, i jumped, grabbed and it came down. Then went straight back up at speed with me hanging on for grim death... It actually went beyond where it usually sits, so I was literally left swinging in the wind. The man who came to help me down could barely keep a straight face. He then opened the chute and I threw my stuff in. His suggestion as he walked away? "You need to put on a bit of weight before a wee thing like you tries that again..." I could have kissed him :-)))) It's the things you could never have dreamed of happening that make being sleeved a joy every day.

Approved for Surgery - Now I'm Freaking Out
If you weren't a bit concerned about what you're going to do, I would be worried you didn't know what you are letting yourself in for. But you've done your homework and got yourself a great surgeon. You know the risks and what might happen. For the majority of us, we get through the surgery with the usual bumps in the road - gas pains, reaction to anaesthetic that passes, sore incisions, find it hard to lie down, need to take acid inhibitors, struggling to get liquids, Protein in and so on. Many people sail through the surgery, others get one or more of the previous issues in combo. The first two weeks are the worst but things improve. Some people suffer serious things like a leak or a stricture (or other complications from surgery) but, thankfully, those appear to be rare. So we all balance what might happen with what we hope for from the surgery. For me, it was better health, a longer life, to get rid of my comorbidities as a result of losing weight. I felt I had run out of options so, despite my fear, I was more afraid of what might happen to me in the long term.... Despite the bumps in the road, I have not one regret. The sleeve has delivered everything I hoped for and many other good things I couldn't even imagine. So go into your surgery with a bit of fear, that's natural, this is major surgery after all. But balance it with hope that you are doing something good that will address the reasons why you are having this surgery in the first place. Hang in there, you are not alone, just keep posting and you will get the support and reassurance to get through. Very best of luck!!!!

The girls are sad and deflated!
I'm almost 6 months out, loving my bones but my girls are having the same discussions that yours are, lol. My deflated bum is more of a problem as sitting on my tailbone gets pretty sore - trying to build muscle to get a bit of non-fat padding going. I didn't think I would bother with cosmetic surgery for my boobs but given that I am rolling and tucking, I've decided to have them reduced and lifted in the New Year. After that, I will happily live with all the other wrinkly, droopy bits ))))

Is it legal to strangle someone while on the liquid diet?
Of course you can wring her chicken neck .... you would be putting her out of her misery cos she sounds like a right miserable besom ... But I love mazzers120's suggestion - I would adapt it by making it little pieces of fish and spreading it around her, including taping it to the underside of her seat. When it gets smelly, you walk by spraying air fresher and just looking at her without saying a word....

Cramping
Yes, it will get better. First couple of weeks are tough, physically and mentally, but hang in there because as with everything, this too will pass :-) And it will be so worth it. For now, rest, get used to the new way your body works, keep sipping your liquids, follow whatever plan your doc gives you, take your pain meds and start to move around. Keep it simple and don't stress... Any questions, search this site and you will find someone who's been there before you and has help and good advice to offer. Don't suffer in silence. When you start to see the benefits of your sleeve, what you are going through will fade from memory. Good luck and congratulations on joining the sleeved side!

Hi and welcome to the site! Am assuming you are not American as you were sleeved on 5/10/2013 - not 10/5/2013, lol! You have had a great start to your new life, good luck going forward.

10/11/2013 Will be my Two years out from Surgery
Back to the OP, listen to Laura-ven and PDXman. Go back to basics and, with the greatest of respect, stop eating round your sleeve. You and it are a partnership - it can only work if you do your bit. So try eating dense Proteins, eat slowly and chew well so that u can get more in. If after an hour or two you think you feel hungry, drink liquid. Sometimes we can confuse hunger with thirst. Eat three meals and if you need to, three small Snacks and get back to having a structure to your eating. You can do this - if you choose to. You are in control - if you choose to be. You know how to do this, you have just let things slide. So forget what you did yesterday and decide to take things a day at a time and get it right. Good luck, no more beating yourself up, eyes front, lol !!!!

I'm Afraid of Bread...
Love the name of this thread! I can eat pretty much anything so choose to stay away from bread, rice, Pasta etc. If I want to keep losing at this stage, I have to stick with Proteins. But my nemesis is cake. Every kind. I desperately want to like it and on occasion - like a birthday - I want to eat it. But every time, my sleeve she say NO after a couple of small mouthfuls... Now this may be a good thing long term but given all the other crap I could eat but choose not to, why is it that the only thing I would love to eat I can't????

strange reaction to great news
Congratulations!!!! And I lmao at the "fat brain" comment! Apparently it takes time for our heads to adjust the picture on our self image so until that happens, trust the scales - and they say you have lost am AMAZING amount of weight. Enjoy your success, your brain will say "wow" soon....

Dating post-op..does it get easier?
Lol, yup, there are some scarey guys online - but maybe they are thinking the same about me :-))))

Hit my first stall...
Just stick with the plan - Protein, fluids and exercise. If this is your first major stall, you will be worried but like everything else, this too will pass. Stay calm, don't panic and you will lose again. Might sound a bit wrong but if you feel you need to do something, up your protein for a few days, then drop it back. That helped me when I stalled exactly where you are - I was stuck for over a month but I had seen others go through the same and come out the other side fine. Another tip - don't stress, it does have an impact on your body. You have done brilliantly so far, so don't lose hope, no reason to. Have faith in yourself and your sleeve - and your stall will break before you know it :-)))))

Calories
Cgoodiett, at 3.5 weeks out, if u stick with ur doc's eating plan and eat what u have been told to eat, u shouldn't need to count calories because the plan has been devised with that in mind. My dietician told me they didn't give calorie totals for that reason and to keep the focus on what u r eating and the volume. At ur stage, none of this should be complicated - if u eat Protein in the quantities advised, keep sipping ur liquids and keep moving, u won't go far wrong and unless u r eating things u have been told not to, u will be fine. Breathe out and remember that ur sleeve will help make sure u don't over eat. All u have to do is eat according to the plan.... Good luck, bet u will be great. I haven't counted a calorie since being sleeved (first time in years I haven't) and I am not doing too bad ))))

3 Months and 65lbs
Bluto, thanks but i am no longer as close as it looks! I decided last week, after discussion with my dietician, to extend my target by another 7lbs but despite me putting that on my ticker, it's not showing, lol. So I now have 14lbs to my target, am having cosmetic surgery that should take care of 5 of those pounds, so about 9 to go. Can't believe it, including pre-op, have lost 76.5 lbs and should lose just over 90 in total. Not as much as many others but transformational for me. Keep doing what you are doing... I hope you continue to be as successful. Maybe I will be brave enough to post before and after pics too ))))
