I know what you mean. As if losing the weight naturally makes it more legitimate or makes her a better person. I'm quite sure most if not all people who have decided on weight loss surgery have tried for many years to lose it naturally and have not had long term success. Just because we chose to face reality and realize that we may need more assistance doesn't make the weight loss less valid. We still have to exercise and make the right food choices. For me the surgery has forced me to make changes and has given me the motivation to exercise and make good food choices because I see it working.

Y'all are so polite. I'd just tell them to F themselves (pardon my French!) We are with you, RJ. You don't need their approval, you just need your own approval. Good for you for doing this, and good girl for posting here so we can give you support. I kinda like the smacking upside the head part....

There is nothing easy about this. I still battle EVERYDAY with old habits. The difference in what you are doing and what they are doing is that when her 45 pounds have been put back on you will still be headed down down down on the scale. This IS NOT easy. Nothing about it is. It is hard work. When people ask me how I'm losing I say hard work and I've cut way back on what I'm eating, I drink more Water, no more sodas and I haven't had bread or sugar since March 11. That is my answer. Some people I do tell that I have had surgery but others I don't. I could not be having the success I am having on my own, I've proven that over and over again BUT it is taking LOTS of work on my part to make it work.

I never understand this "easy route" business. If you have a choice between doing something the easy way or the hard way, why would you choose the hard way?!?

Its so sad to hear how people really are when you get to the nitty gritty about things. You know, You make sure to just take of yourself and let your family be there to support you and we are here as well. We must all realize that we are NOT in control of what others think of us or what the don't b/c all in all, it is us who have to deal w/ what life has in store for us. You know the saying, "misery loves company"? , well, we know that being over weight is a miserable thing in ones life, and as you stated, most of the women there at your work are over weight too, so sure, you all laugh to each other while covering up your pain. Now that you've decided to not only verbalize your pain to them, you've decided to do something about it...and b/c you will NO longer be miserable, well, there too goes the company!! I am NOT making excuses for them, but their problem is probably the fact that now they feel forced to have to do somethhing about their own situations, and just like the decisions we had to make to have surgery, they too are going to have to self evaluate and you know that its difficult when you're not ready. So chin up, we are here for you and we are proud of your decision that YOU made for YOU!! Congrats and God Bless:)

There haters... focus on the positive things to come out of this WLS. Look into proper exercise, diet and work your sleeve. If your family is supportive, that's all you need, and that's all that matters... who cares what some jealous, insecure coworkers think.

I was so excited for my surgery and I've pretty much told everyone in my life including co-workers about it. My family has been great, but some of my co-workers have been shady. I've even had a few try to tell me that WLS is cosmetic! As if. Now I am not one who cares too much about what others think. But it's super annoying. half of the reason I shared is because 75% of the women I work with are overweight themselves and perhaps hearing my story would inspire them. Instead they hate. Well they will really hate me a year from now when I'm a size 8. Ha.

iontash got a reaction from Tim H. in Why are so many people disappointed when they "only lose" this and that much weight?
Before my surgery I found the many "stall" posts to be discouraging, not necessarily negative. Eating 500 calories a day or less and exercising 5 days a week with little to no weight loss is frustrating with or without surgery and people come here to vent and give and receive support. I will admit, before my surgery I stayed off of this site because those posts worried me. But I'm three weeks out and have been in my first stall" and seeing that many other people have gone and are going through the same thing has actually reassured me that I'm not doing anything wrong and that it's just a part of the process. I have also been having gas pain and have been reassured by various posts about gas. Don't leave, just don't click on the posts you aren't interested in reading.

Last time I checked, this website was a support group for everything that is involved in the lives of fellow Sleevers. If you can't, or flat out just don't WANT to be supportive of a fellow Sleever in pain, then MOVE ON and keep your criticism to yourself. I have NO DESIRE to support a spouse of a Sleever who is suffering. I don't need to hear the other side of the story. I LIVED IT MYSELF. You can't make this crap up! If my Sister-Sleever is asking for comfort, that's what she gets from me.

I eat a dannon light and fit for lunch or Breakfast too but I mix half a scoop of natural flavor whey Protein into it. It does NOT taste good, but it helps me reach my Protein goals. My surgeon actually sells several high protein meals on their website. They have a hot chocolate that's good. And the protein Meal Replacements are good as well.

PLEASE stop calling posters trolls. If you have an issue with any post, please REPORT it. I don't care how implausible or unbelievable the post is. Can you imagine being a failure for a long time and finally have the courage to come out about it, only to be called a troll ? This isn't how we welcome people on VST. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Happy to see all you May sleevers. I had my surgery May 10, 2012, so I'm a little over 11 months post op. My surgiversary is coming up fast. I've lost 180 pounds in that time, but more importantly I've basically started a whole new life. I feel and look better than I ever thought possible. My energy is through the roof, so is my love of life. It hasn't always been easy but it has ALWAYS been worth it. This time next year all of ya'll will be right there as well. Good luck to every one of you.
