I'm a little over 3 months post op, and if I'm not on top of my Water, I don't get it all in.....The only food I bring to work is my lunch, so when my head hunger kicks in, mid morning I reach for my Water and sip sip sip----otherwise, I'd be grazing all day...about an hour before bed time, if I haven't reached my liquid quota, I take a water bottle and sip until I get it down (but I am further out than you are, I'm probably able to drink more)

PGee got a reaction from pjackson0523 in Anyone regret WLS and why?
Easy answer: I do not regret it.
had an easy time of it for the most part......but it's work.......when you eat such a small amount of food (well, for me anyway), you have to eat with intention and decide where are you going to get the best bang for your buck when it comes to protein/nutrtion.
Those first month or two are difficult.....it's a struggle to get in your Water and Protein....can be painful even....but every day it got better until I was healed, and it's been mostly smooth sailing.
It's not the easy way out, and whatever struggles you have with food issues or head hunger, you will still have to work on them post op.................BUT this gives you a helping hand.......and for me, it gives me hope. Hope that I will reach my goal weight....

May I be so bold to suggest that those who justify and seek permission/absolution with regards to their drug of choice are the same ones who thought WLS was a cure? That the sleeve would do the fighting for them?
When I went to Mexicali for my WLS Dr. Campos made an analogy that really stuck in my head.
    Summarizing the analogy:
Losing weight, especially for the obese, is like a table with 4 legs. Two of the legs are WLS. The 3rd leg is choosing good fuel to put in your body as opposed to crap. The 4th leg is exercising. Get off your rear and move more.
If you take any of those legs away from the table, the table does not function as well as it could/should.

PGee reacted to clk in Self Control
I see the points behind everything offered here as an idea.
Things like choosing Protein first get harder the farther out you get. Making the choice to go all or nothing on food is a very, very difficult one. Just as many people struggle because they choose the route of abstinence as do because they chose moderation and can't stay in control.
My experience has shown that the single most important thing you can do is get help. Counseling one on one is always your best option but group therapy or a close friend that can relate to disordered eating will also work.
Whatever you've got going on under the food and the weight is something you'll have to confront and work on. It's not just a one time thing, either. I did the bulk of my work in the first year but still have to face issues as they crop up in maintenance.
Self control is critical. Finding what works for you is going to be important. It doesn't have to be what works for other people. I do moderation. I say that 99% of the time I make the great choices. And about 1% of the time it's hard...I make less than ideal choices. But I stay disciplined. I track my food, even on days when I go off the rails and eat anything I want. I weigh daily (it's more important in maintenance than loss to do this) and I never, ever let myself slip into denial about my eating habits.
Because I confront it and acknowledge that I've got a screwed up relationship with food, I'm able to do moderation to an extent that some people cannot. I'm also lucky enough to have only a couple of trigger foods that make me want to go crazy. I avoid those foods except for rare, controlled treats.
It might sound cruel or dismissive but the easiest thing to do is not be dumb. Don't be dumb about it. Don't think it's okay to jump right out there in the first months post op and push your limits. Because we all do it - we all test our limits. But don't make it a habit. Don't think that because your sleeve's restriction keeps you from overindulging in year one that you can do what you like. By the time year three rolls around, you're going to find that your success hinges upon you working your sleeve - not your sleeve keeping you thin despite yourself.
It's entirely possible. This is long, I apologize. All of my posts are long! But it's not as simple as just avoiding certain food groups. Because real life is still out there. Nobody around you is going to give up food just because you had surgery. Exercising self control is important and by getting the head work done and by staying disciplined, you'll find it's easier to stay in control.
And when you struggle you'll find there are hundreds of posts here from people that have gone through the same things. Support helps.
    Good luck,
    ~Cheri

Very good post....can so relate, thank you for posting!

my mother hid food all the time, ate in secret, and then denied it. As an elderly woman, she still hides food and is still in denial..........early in our marriages, my siblings and I all hid food in our homes and thought it was normal.....thank gooness those days are long gone.

After VSG I find going out to a restaurant with a group challenging, because if I don't move that plate away after my few bites, I'd probably pick at the food while everyone else was eating theirs....even if I was full--so that's an ongoing battle, but at least now I will push the plate away.

The support that comes from VST and my local group, has helped tremendously. Thanks again!

It is very normal to be thinking you will be one of the few people who dont succeed with the sleeve. just over two months ago i was thinking the same thing going into it. I am now about 2 months and 1 week out and i STILL have those thoughts. why? the sleeve isnt a miracle, i already find myself regressing back to old habits. surgery will not take away all your cravings and hunger. maybe the first couple weeks, but it will change. i have no problems eating food and if i wanted to snack on chips all day, i could. maybe a little at a time, but i still could. it requires hard work and i find that out more and more everyday. it is not easy, and it is not a "cure". i fight for every pound i lose. but it does help get your mind right in the beginning, its up for you for it to stay that way. and i battle with that all the time. but i wish you the best of luck!!

It really depends on your age, how long you've been overweight and genetics!
Some people have what I call "tight fat" which clearly will reduce down with little sagging. If you're like me and already have "loose fat" or already have sagging skin, it ain't going anywhere!!

Those of us who don't take ourselves too seriously will not mind posting on a thread containing a question that has been asked many times. I tried taking myself seriously once but looked into a mirror and ruined the whole thing.
WildChickie, sounds like you are doing what you can do. Your complex body has a schedule for weight loss. Unfortunately, your brain does not have the security clearance to see it. You apply science and discipline..the body must comply. It really is that simple. We also need patience which is giving time a chance.
If you are like me most of my overweight was put on over a long period. It came off in a much shorter period comparitively but at the time it was coming off I wanted it to hurry up. That is human nature. Your body doesn't care about human nature.
I occupied my waiting time looking at sharp skinny clothes and studying exercise regimes. I told my body, "Resistance is futile!" I am now a skinny Borg.

Don't be sorry for posting. Yes it happens to us all... and yes it's still a surprise when it happens to us!
OK, just follow your program. Try not to weigh every day. Increase your Water... peeing clear every hour or 90 minutes actually helps.
Remember this is NOT fat, this is (1) Water weight -- and may be cycle related, and (2) healing after major surgery.
There is ONE thing that you DO NOT do. You DO NOT give up.

PGee got a reaction from greersc in Clothing from the 80's, too funny
So, I started gaining weight in the 80's, when I worked full time in a corporate environment. And, I saved all my clothing.....for the most part when I out grew a piece of clothing, I put it in the attick (I mean, really, I wasn't going to stay a huge size forever, right? I'd be wearing it again in a afew months).....ha ha ha.....20+ years later, here I am FINALLY fitting into some of them....
I pulled out my size 16's from my rat packing stash, and discovered my two favorite suits....from 1986......I know, it's sad I know that.
I only tried on the jackets, because the skirts will be too tight. And oh my gosh, they fit.....BUT the shoulder pads in those things are huge....I mean they should have their own zip code! I could use them as pillows when I travel!
Early out, someone on here told me I should just get rid of all the clothes I've saved over the years.......I figured everything I had was rather classic in styling......and I'm frugal......but I'm afraid there's no hiding those shoulder pads.......I may still wear it as a joke, see what my boss says (he's very funny as hell and notices everything I wear)
