A a current photo (I am not done yet, still in progress). The horse I am riding is on the smaller side compared to what I am used to.
My before photo is of me just standing. I will be honest, it is hard for me to look at that photo, but it is a good reminder of where I never want to go again.

Straight from the mouths of babes. I love it. You must be doing something right, keep up the good work.
I had one the other day myself. I was at my PCP's office for my yearly physical and had been flat on my back in the stirrups. She told me I could sit up and I actually did it ON MY OWN and pretty easily too. Prior to my sleeve I always needed her to give me a pull because otherwise I was just like a turtle on my shell with my arms and legs flailing in vain trying to find some momentum to get myself upright. I'm sure it was a sight.

laceeb reacted to aroundhky in if long distance running keeps you from losing weight, why are marathoners so skinny?
We can't really paint everyone with the same brush saying that this will automatically do that or it will automatically cause this to occur. It seems we are often genetically different in the way our bodies respond to certain stimuli/stresses. Just my guess....I'm not a professional. I think the key is trying different things, be in tuned with how your body reacts and go from there. Also, we don't all have the same goals, so that is yet another variable. For me, if I consistently run long distances (a few miles for 3-5 times a week), my body does not respond well muscle/strength-wise. But if I limit cardio to no more than twice a week for 30 minutes or less, I don't really see any negative side effects for me in the weight room, yet I still get some cardio benefit. Someone else may be able to run every day and not see any muscle/strength loss. But on the other end of the spectrum, another person may just simply look at a pair of running shoes and feel their muscles run away in sheer horror from the sight of anything to do with running. That's probably a reach, but the point is that some people would barely do any cardio and have negative strength effects from it. For me, I fall somewhere in between and my cardio is just an auxiliary exercise for me, but also one that I don't want to give up completely.

A year ago I went to Vegas and didn't have such a great experience. I hurt walking, couldn't take the heat, etc.
Then I go back exactly one year later, which was 7 months post op, and had the time of my life!!!! I never had to open a door, I was complimented all the time, had an amazing time in the night clubs where I was invited with no cover and free drinks. That would have NEVER happened a year ago. I can't wait to go back!!!! Very grateful for my gastric sleeve and the opportunity to live life to its fullest!!!!

Have you weighed yourself before this post op? I gained about 10 pounds from surgery due to IV fluids and it took several days to lose it. This could be an explanation.

I agree with the smaller comment. I don't think that it is smaller versus I have been building muscles in my core etc.
But sex is better than ever and you better damn well believe I count it as Cardio!

LOL! My wife laughs and says it looks like my butt crack goes all the way up to my neck when I sleep on my side. I felt around back there, and I'll be damned. It feels like I have one big, long crack!

I, too, was sleeved on May 6 and am feeling great. Back to wearing clothes I couldnt before, going out, coaching ball, dancing .. back to normal.
Get negative thoughts out of your head, think positive and you will be fine. Just think of the long run, you will be skiny and healthy! Good luck to you and this too shall pass

laceeb reacted to Webchickadee in If I can eat a 6" subway at 5 months, how much at a year? :(
Firstly, you must remember that it can take up to 6 months for your stomach to full heal from the surgery. Which means you are probably experiencing extensive swelling in the stomach, not just for the first few weeks, but for up to 6 months. The "sudden" extra capacity could very well be as a result of decreased internal swelling and not any form of stretching.
Secondly, you cannot truly "know" you real capacity until you have established a baseline "normal". Which you can't do while you are healing, and is difficult to do while you are changing "variables".
    Variables include:
    - adding new foods/textures to your diet
    - increasing/decreasing your activity or exercise level(s)
    - Hormonal changes (esp. during menstruation in women)
    and many more....
Don't get discouraged! It's like being disappointed in what a puzzle will look like, when you've only just seen a few pieces laid out. There is alot more ahead of you that will show you the "full picture".
As to how much you will eat at 1 year, who knows? But as you say, the element of "your choice" and "your decisions" will make ALL the difference. Making informed, healthy choices that FUEL your body (rather than your appetite and cravings) will help you reach your goal and maintain your losses.
I chose to use my first 6 months as a "training ground" to learn and establish my life-long eating habits going forward. That way I knew that future temptations, celebrations, cravings and "life" could be taken in stride without panic.
And when all else fails and I eat more than I should, I get A LOT more active and work it off.
Have faith. The tool of the VSG is only one part of your weight-loss and healthy living strategy. The best tool of all is your brain (no surgery required, but extensive modifications mandatory)!

Don't you think a little depression and anxiety comes along with this? I had a lot of anxiety before surgery, which was a week ago today, but it was the fear of the unknown more than anything. Even though I had researched everything I possible could there was still a little anxiety. My energy level sure isn't very high right now but I'm still on a full liquid diet phase of the program. I'm wondering if you need to see your therapist (I was required to see one before my surgery). If you don't have a "mind set" for this he or she can help you though it..Don’t be second guessing yourself, you wanted this so embrace it and work with it and give it everything you have! Good luck and keep in touch!
