SlimDreams reacted to mi75 in VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?
The threads I've been reading are mostly the reason that I only post HERE (vet's forum) and in the Regain forum. All the others I don't really spent too much time in, but once in a while I will respond to some question about pre-op diet or exercise...I've really noticed a huge difference in the forums overall since I had surgery 2 years ago. It seems that MOST of the people that were posting back then are gone. There are still some (like y'all) still here and I'm so grateful. I'm coming down from a terrible re-gain cliff and working hard to get back on track.
yes, I have to agree. I wonder if the insurance reforms that have happened in the past couple years have loosened the requirements for some states/insurance companies? Maybe these folks have different requirements than we did, and possibly WAY fewer requirements such as psych, nut etc???

Can someone fill me in on what happened here?
I didn't sign in for a long time when I broke my back and eventually had surgery.
I came back and the whole site is different, and not necessarily better.
I heard a lot of the vets left and I don't know why. There were a lot of us who liked to keep in touch. Now I have no way to reach any of my online friends. I really miss Cowgirl Jane.
Can anyone explain what the heck happened to everyone? I Know it's difficult when a lot of the forums have all the wls surgeries mixed together. RNY, Band and sleeve don't have much in common other than we are thinner.

I left because I was bullied and insulted and basically trolled upon. I wonder if others felt the same. [emoji53] there were some bad apples. I'm back because I want to help out newbies, share my experience, and help anyone struggling with maintenance.

I just reconnected on FB with one of the vets and she will start to post again, but yes...while looking up older posts, I see how many of the people who helped and supported me, gone gone gone.
I can only hope they are doing well, and be grateful that when I was a newbie, they were here for me. This site, and the people on it, were integral in my success and I'll never forget them.

Thank you both for your replies. So sad to see so many veterans, myself included have left these forums. Everything is dated from so long ago. The weird thing is throughout my 2 year weight gain I regularly e exercised which proves to me that diet is much more important than exercise. The points of not keeping bad foods in the house is a good one for me. I researched macro nutritional goals (which I had forgotten) and set up my fitness pal again. Went to the grocery store and only bought ice cream flavor and Snacks I don't like for the rest of my family. Carried my Water around all day and sipped all day. Thank you for the advice. Love to hear more if any other veterans want to participate.

I haven't been on these forums in about 2 years but decided I needed serious help and was hoping to be inspired again as I was 4 years ago when I had surgery. The bottom line is I've fallen back into old habits. I've regained almost all the weight I lost. Have had many false starts. Can't seem to stick with anything. I'm eating like a truck driver (no offense to truck drivers). Feel out of control. Weighed myself this morning. Refreshed my fitness app with new goals and started reading here. Words of advice much appreciated.

I also regained 55 pounds and am 4 years out. I also am saying enough! My feet hurt almost all the time, lacking energy and don't want to socialize since I'm busting out of my size 16s. Today I started back on these forums, logged my food into my fitness pal and started getting my Water sipping back in. Let's try to lean on each other for support. We did it before we can do it again.

    I'm in sleeved June 2013
    Weight @ surgery 297
    Lowest weight 190
    Goal weight 175
    Current weight 231.7
    Height 5'9"
    Goal pant size 10/12
    Lowest pant size 10
My plan is to go back to at least 1 Protein shake a day, increase Water intake, increase veggies, stay away from my slider foods, no added sugar and limit wine to truly special occasions.
Got a new gym membership so I'll be hitting the gym at least 4 times during the work week (2 spin classes/ 2 body pump classes). Weekends it'll be outdoor activities bike riding, SUP or walking.
I'll be using Fitbit and MFP for tracking purposes. I've set up mini goals for the year:
    1) Feb: get into my new red dress for Valentine's Day ( it was too tight to wear for my company's xmas party!)
    2) April: beat my time from last year for the Carlsbad 5k
    3) June: be @ my wedding day weight of 204 by our 1 year anniversary
    4) August: Complete a 5k distance entirely by jogging/ running (without stopping to walk)
    5) October: Beat my overall time at the Esprit de She sprint triathlon.
Did a 14 mile hill bike ride today so I'm feeling really good and I know with a little planning and a lot of commitment we can all get back on track with our goals. Here is to a Happy, and Healthy 2017!

I'm 4 years post op. I had regained 35 lbs. Back in April I decided to get it off and I have. I'm at the lowest weight I've been at since my surgery. I'm going to try to lose about 10 more lbs. otherwise I'm happy where I am now.

I'm in-- I'm 3.5 years out, and after the ups and downs of the last 2 years I'm up 35 lbs from my lowest PO weight. I'm getting mentally prepared now, but I am back to the boards because I realize I need some support and a kick in the rear!

Well, I PM'ed Alex just two short days ago asking him to consider a regain forum, and well, here we are!
He asked me to start the first thread.
    So here goes...
I am 27 months post op and have gained 20 lbs from my lowest. I have had a massive personal loss (stress eating) and took a night position that I LOVE (but snack all night) so 20 lbs and here I am.
    Plan:
    1. Came back to bariatric pal and owned my gain. admitted to it and moved forward.
    2. Seeing a new doc and nut next week. Changed insurance due to job change and have an incredible new clinic/doc/nut and getting established with them wednesday.
    3. Started 5 day Pouch Test and trying to re-learn restriction.
    4. Found the coordinator of the support group associated with my new doc. called the coordinator. announced myself. now they are expecting me, so I have to go and face it.
    5. ordered Slim in 6 program from Beachbody since i have not exercised like I should in a LONG time so that's a pretty mellow start.
    6. bought all sorts of proteins-new flavor shakes, Soups, Quest Cookies and Cream bars etc because variety will keep me going.
So...there it is. My truth. I have gained. Yes, I have regained. But through the loss of my dad, my grief, a new career path I am in love with, and learning how to balance a night job with my eating I have also regained perspective.
I regained some weight. Now I regain control. Then I regain my life.

SlimDreams reacted to Escape_Pod in My sugar addiction
Once I get started with sugar, it's like I'm the pre-op me. I can't get enough of it, I'm obsessed with food all day long, I'm hoarding, and sneaking, and I put on weight like nobody's business. It took me a VERY long time to come to terms with it, but I simply cannot handle sugar in moderation. I consider myself an addict. As of this morning I still have 8.5 pounds of regain to lose (and I've been working on it since just before Christmas), but I'm thrilled to be back where I am - that's how out of control things got for me.
If you struggle with sugar withdrawal, you might try L-Glutamine or magnesium for a few days and see if that helps. Good luck!

I used to feel this way...But now I just go about my business and they can stare all they want and say dumb things all they want....Usually though they are waiting for me to push my plate away from myself so that they can dive for it.....
Don't feel ashamed of making healthier choices and looking out for your health...It is about you girl and no one else. You are in control..Take and run with it.....And stop the closet eating because you may find that you will pick up those bad eating habits again and you will feel even worse.....Stick to the 1 cup amount and 2 Snacks......

So, almost 2.5 years at goal, it finally dawned on me that I need to move the seat up in the car. I've been stretching my leg to reach the pedal and hunching over to reach the steering wheel for more than 2.5 years. Yesterday, the lightbulb went off. With nearly 120 lbs. gone, I'm not so padded on the back side and I have to move the seat up to compensate. Doh! Much more comfortable driving now.

SlimDreams reacted to Queen of Crop in What are your differences between Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3?
As I go into my 4th year of the sleeve I have recognized an evolution of my sleeve. Year One is weird, surreal, tiring, I didn't like food much, wondered if I would ever be able to drink coffee and wine again, as well as rice, Pasta, bread, etc. But it was also SO exciting....like WOOHOO!!!!!! Look at me!!!!! I'm losing so much weight. And the compliments were fast and furious. So it was these two ends of a continuum; one not so great the other thrilling! Shopping and sex was so much fun again! It was a true honeymoon!
Year 2 was also great and although I was at the top end of my goal, I thought for sure I would drop 5-10 more lbs that year because I was moving so much more! I had a whole new wardrobe and I never felt deprived or that I was on a diet. But I never lost any more weight.
Year 3 has been humbling. Still at the top end of my goal but nothing is coming off. In all fairness I won't say I am struggling to stay here, I eat what I want including wine and Cookies almost every day, but I am still around the 1000-1200 calorie mark each day. And when I have tried to cut back and lose, the scale is not budging.
I am writing my blog again and coming back here daily for inspiration and support.
And, I feel fat at 139 lbs!!! So what's up with that???? How are the rest of you veterans doing?
