CWAM got a reaction from mjameyson in medical id bracelets
It isn't really that you can't have NG tubes I had one when i woke up from surgery, its the blind NG tube that is the problem. If they don't know your stomach is smaller and they just go poking a tube down your throat they could puncture something. Its a bigger deal in bypass, but still an issue in sleeve. Same thing with NSAIDS they won't kill you, but they could harm the sleeve because you are more susceptible to ulcers etc. I was told things such as advil could be reintroduced but that i may have to stay on an antacid for the rest of my life if i took it. For me its worth it because Tylonel doesn't work for me.

My surgeon's office suggested we get one, but said it wasn't required. They said your anatomy has changed so if you were in an emergency and couldn't give medical history it could be important for personnel to know your stomach is smaller, and anatomy has changed. They gave us a website for "designer" bracelets that I really liked. http://www.laurenshope.com/ They also have nice ankle bracelets and necklaces.

CWAM reacted to TES in something apropros Oprah said once--re: "the easy way out"
I remember once when Oprah had lost a lot of weight...she heard that people were saying things like "Well, she's rich, it's easy to lose weight when someone cooks all of your food and does everything for you." She was talking about it on her show and basically said...she was the one who had to make healthful dietary choices every day and refuse her beloved Ruffles potato chips. Her wealth didn't do that for her. And she is the one who had to get her butt on the track and walk every day. She couldn't pay someone to do that for her.
I think it is so similar when people say that VSG is "the easy way out." We are the ones who have make sure that every morsel we put in our mouths is good fuel for our bodies and resist head hunger. The surgery doesn't do that for us. We're the ones who make special holiday meals for our families and then don't partake in most of it. The surgery doesn't do that for us. We're the ones who go to the gym even when the weather isn't good or we feel like going to bed early instead. The surgery doesn't do that for us. We're the ones who keep drinking (and drinking and drinking) Water when part of us would rather hang out with our old friend Diet Coke or Frozen Margarita. The surgery doesn't do that for us.
And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, the surgery is a tool, but I still feel that we own and deserve every hard-earned victory we see on the scale and every NSV. If others don't understand that, it's okay. I know that I haven't taken the easy way out, but I also know that what I'm doing is an investment in something very important--me. And that's something that money definitely can't buy.

CWAM got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Burping and gurgling everytime I drink
Okay great thanks! Im glad to hear from someone who is further out that has had the issue. I haven't had really any issues so far so if this is the worst of it I think I can handle it. My husband and sisters have heard my throat do it, and they just laugh so they they are really supportive.

CWAM got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Burping and gurgling everytime I drink
Im just under my two weeks post op. I have noticed over the last week as I have started to feel better, and be able to get more of my liquid in that specifically when I am drinking a Protein Drink or milk (and sometimes with just the water) I burp, and get a gurgling noise in my throat. Its distracting when in a quiet room or during a prayer in church. I have been taking gas-x and the burping isn't loud it is the gurgling that can be overheard. I do not use straws, and try to drink slowly, but I can't seem to make it stop. I have my 2 week post op appointment on Wednesday and plan to ask my surgeon, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else had experienced this issue.
