  1. I had my sleeve April 4 in June I had an episode in a grocery story were I passed out. The episode happened twice in about a 45 min period. Went to the hospital all tests were normal. I chalked it up to waiting to long to eat but followed up with my primary care. She did a 3 hour glucose test and found within an hour my insulin level went from 10 at fasting to 211, for those not aware that's and unheard of level, which she has seen one other time and that was in someone who had also had Bariatric surgery but she was 2 years post op not 3 months. She put me on metformin hoping to regulate and I ate about every 3 hours. I thought it was takin care of until out of nowhere I had another episode a few weeks ago and have felt pretty poorly since. I can never catch a sugar drop at least not at levels I believe should make me pass out. I get a continuous glucose monitor this week to wear for a week and have an endocrinologist appt at the end of the month. I can't find much research on this issue but my doc did give me an article about it. Essentially your body thinks its starving so it over reacts to food it gets producing too much insulin dropping your blood sugar ( sort of reactive hypoglycemia but a more intense reaction). And can actually cause your pancreas to grow. I am so pumped about my weight loss ( 80 lbs in 5 months) but I did this to be healthier too and I have followed surgeons/ nuts instructions to a T and feel very discouraged by this development. Has any one else experienced this? Essentially it's nothing I am doing wrong it's just a negative reaction my body has decided to have following surgery. But again not much research out there so I thought maybe some of you may have insight.
  2. I had heard of that when standing up suddenly after sitting particularly after long periods but the first time it happened to me I had been up walking for an hour and half (slowly it was a grocery store) and I feel crummy all day almost like its buildinf
  3. My family has a long history of diabetes but I had normal blood sugar/ insulin prior to surgery. This is out of left field really. I had a BMW of almost 50, high blood pressure, and morbidly obese which is why I did surgery. Due to family history diabetes was probably in the future but I'm only 26 so it wasn't there yet. I get usually 110+ g of Protein calories stay about 900 carbs were around 50-75 and was reduced to 30 or less for a couple weeks but I have been instructed to heighten those up again. Again model patient then this.
  4. Sorry should say low blood sugar/ high insulin
  5. It does feel like a full time Job! It takes a while to get down, but at 5 weeks I think I finally have the hang of it, but it was 3 to 4 weeks before I was getting all my water, and protein because I got that pain also. I think I finally have the rhythm down but when it gets thrown off it all falls apart.
  6. My 5 weeks is this Thursday, and just this week I feel I can eat more "normal" I follow the NUT plan like im supposed to for my doc so I can eat meat now, but its pureed. For dinner I am up to about a 4th a cup, but then I feel the restriction and stop. I think it really just depends on the person.

Is Sleeving the easy way out?

I once had those thoughts too, and it took me a year to decide to do it. I was sleeved April 4th and I promise there is nothing easy about this process. Is it worth it? To me yes, but as others have said before you have to pour your blood sweat and tears into this process. Luckily I have an amazing support system that will let me cry on their shoulders when I need too and their to remind how strong I was to make this decision
  8. You really can't gauge your weight loss on others. It will bring you down. Everyones body is different, and everyone will lose different. I was almost 100lbs heavier then you for my surgery on April 4th. My first two weeks I lost alot very quickly, but did not feel well. I have now slowed down considerably only losing about 2 pounds in a week, but thats okay. Just like everything (and yes I know this is a cliche), but its a marathon not a sprint. Be patient with yourself and your body! As long as you are following what the doctor tellls you and you are feeling good then you have no worries. Good luck on your journey!

    Nosey folks!

I work with alot of great people and most of them knew I was going in for surgery. I was in the mindset that God called me to do this surgery because nothing else had worked, and this was the path he wanted me to take. I am not a person who broadcasts my business, but I also saw no reason to hide it. Im proud of the weight loss I have had and although I did the surgery to primarily get off my medicines and get healthy Im also looking forward to looking amazing so I would tell anyone that asked that I had surgery

    medical id bracelets

It isn't really that you can't have NG tubes I had one when i woke up from surgery, its the blind NG tube that is the problem. If they don't know your stomach is smaller and they just go poking a tube down your throat they could puncture something. Its a bigger deal in bypass, but still an issue in sleeve. Same thing with NSAIDS they won't kill you, but they could harm the sleeve because you are more susceptible to ulcers etc. I was told things such as advil could be reintroduced but that i may have to stay on an antacid for the rest of my life if i took it. For me its worth it because Tylonel doesn't work for me.

    medical id bracelets

My surgeon's office suggested we get one, but said it wasn't required. They said your anatomy has changed so if you were in an emergency and couldn't give medical history it could be important for personnel to know your stomach is smaller, and anatomy has changed. They gave us a website for "designer" bracelets that I really liked. http://www.laurenshope.com/ They also have nice ankle bracelets and necklaces.
  12. You are definately not alone. I was sleeved on April 4th and I have slept horribly. It takes me forever to fall asleep and I wake up on and off all night. I had ambien that I was prescribed previously but never took. I asked my surgeon and he said it was alright to take. I took half a pill last night, and although I fell asleep fast I didn't stay that way. I am going to try a whole pill tonight. I hope it gets better!
  13. Im just under my two weeks post op. I have noticed over the last week as I have started to feel better, and be able to get more of my liquid in that specifically when I am drinking a protein drink or milk (and sometimes with just the water) I burp, and get a gurgling noise in my throat. Its distracting when in a quiet room or during a prayer in church. I have been taking gas-x and the burping isn't loud it is the gurgling that can be overheard. I do not use straws, and try to drink slowly, but I can't seem to make it stop. I have my 2 week post op appointment on Wednesday and plan to ask my surgeon, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else had experienced this issue.
  14. I agree if this is the worst problem I think I will live =) but its still good to know its normal.
  15. Okay great thanks! Im glad to hear from someone who is further out that has had the issue. I haven't had really any issues so far so if this is the worst of it I think I can handle it. My husband and sisters have heard my throat do it, and they just laugh so they they are really supportive.

    Any April sleevers out there?

My surgery date is Apr. 4th! Today I went to the Chike adn unjury websites and ordered the sample packs of the protein shakes. I haven't tried any yet, but I saw the suggestions on here and ordered them! Thanks!
