Rena82 got a reaction from moonchild1968 in Ready for a new beginning!
I got my surgery date yesterday..... the big day is April 17th! I have my pre op tomorrow and I'm concerned about something... back on March 3rd I was in a bad car wreck and I suffered a few bumps n bruises. Well on my legs were the bruises were I have a small knot on one leg and the other leg its just a lil swollen. So my concern is blood clots. Should i b concerned or am i thinking totoo much into it? I don't want these bruises to set me back so I am going to discuss this with my surgeon tomorrow and hope for the best! I'm really looking forward to getting this conversion to sleeve done. I'm ready for a new, refreshed and healthier me!

That's pretty much what I've decided -- to hope for the best. There's no way to tell how it will be for you until you're already there!

Genetics mainly as well as your age (younger skin bounces back more) and how long you have been heavy.....can't really change those things but also sun exposure damages the collagen in your skin....pretty much though you are dealt the cards you are dealt....blame your parents if you sag and then guilt them into paying for your plastic surgery )

I'm planning to take 5-6 weeks off work. I have a stressful mentally challenging job that requires me to be on my feet. I know there is no way I can keep up with the pace of my job after surgery. Good luck to you!

I'm just at a computer all day. I had my surgery on Monday went home from the hospital on Tuesday took all of Wednesday off and then today I worked from home. I plan to go back to the office tomorrow. I was pretty tired today but I feel awesome most of the time so I figure I might as well head back.

I am a sheetmetal mechanic so fairly labor intensive I am planning for 3 weeks off but hoping I can just take two and go back to work on limited duty.

I took a week off but my first week back I worked 4-6 hours a day. I do marketing and a lot of walking through the hospitals so it wasn't so bad. I felt completely normal 2 weeks post op

I took 2 weeks, probably only really needed one. The part that is hard is getting your fluids in. I was glad to have the extra time to get used to the new routine.

I had my surgery on Thursday the 28th of Feb and was back to work Tuesday Match 5th. I have a desk job and actually get surges of energy or antsy where i need to get up and walk...have no idea why. I feel absolutely fine now. It depends on you but don't over do it. Like some have said listen to your body!

Do you have desk jobs or physical jobs? I think that makes a big difference. Also, for at least the first few weeks, you may find you don't have a lot of stamina--so I think working two jobs might be a bit of a challenge. I only took about 4 days off (and was answering work emails within a couple of hours of surgery)--because I have a desk job and work at home. However, I was sort of wishing I had taken at least a week off and more like two. I was really sleepy and stamina was low. Part of it is the liquid diet and just recuperating from the surgery. And you need time for yourself to walk, get in your fluids, etc. I am now 5 weeks out and just started feeling more like myself. The PA at my surgeon's office always says you really won't feel normal for at least 6 weeks. But if you don't have complications, I would think 2 to 3 weeks from both jobs would be plenty, if you have desk type jobs.

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I've dropped by, but I just want to give an up date and a word of encouragement. I had my one year post-op yesterday. It was a bit late (2/14/12 surgery), but anywho. I was down #160 (335-175), twenty dress sizes (28-8) and over 252 inches. If I can do this, anyone can. I had my toes in the grave. I was on 21 meds and the doc told me I would die that way...whether I lost weight or not. Because of my problems he (my PCP) didn't think I would lost a huge amount (50-60#), but he encouraged me to have it do so I could 'feel a little better about myself.' Well, I'm glad to say I proved him wrong. I did lose weight and a lot of it. I also lost all of the meds and the cane/walker/wheelchair. I am a WALKING miracle. I give praise to God for my healing. Now because I was instantly miraculously healed, but because he allowed me to find the path and the means (insurance) to get what I needed to be healed. I do believe God instantly heals somethings in some people, but I also believe he uses the hand of good physicians to administer healing. This is the way he chose to give me mine. I encourage anyone that has had a long, unyielding struggle with obesity to talk to a doctor about WLS... Sleeve in particular. If you are on the edge trying to make up your mind, take my advice. Do it! You are sick? In pain? Lonely? Depressed? What are you holding on to! You have nothing to lose, but all of that. Are there risks? Yes. Is it hard? Yes. But come on. We all know the fat has a 100% chance of causing complication/death. Is it really that much of a gamble to take a 1% chance with a surgery. You're more likely to get killed in a car wreck on the way to get your next fast food burger. Do yourself and your family/friends a favor and choose life. I did and I would do it again and again.
