  1. I have been digging unsweetened iced tea too, but I get mine from Sonic because I love their ice.
  2. Everyone is so different, from bone structure to lean body mass etc... I have seen some posts/pictures where they started size 24/26 and now they are quite small 4/6 and the first thing they say is "I never thought I would be this size" that has always been my thought. Even at my lowest in high school I was still a 10 maybe 12 so I have never thought I could get below 150-160. I have a friend who is 5'4" and her goal weight is 117, I have always thought she was crazy but after this forum I told her the other day that I won't doubt her, that if she wants to make her way to that goal I will support her, granted I have always known her heavy, she has an Asian ancestory and her grandmother is quite tiny, who am I to say or think that because she seems like 117 would be way too small that she couldn't do it?
  3. So I know that the video is geared towards people with RnY, but another part of it is when you drink it essentially hits your pyloric valve which opens up and lets the water go straight through.
  4. Ughhhh I'm on my phone so I can't find it but there is a great video on YouTube where a guy demonstrates the effects of eating and drinking together with funnels and applesauce. Ill look when I get home if someone else doesn't post something sooner.
  5. It has something to do with the vagus nerve. I of course can not find the article I read about it, maybe someone else has or has more info. When I get home this afternoon I can research a little bit more.
  6. http://www.beautyandthebypass.com/ I enjoy her stuff.
  7. Must be the nurse in us! I'm a nursing student but its there.... Under the fluff :-)
  8. Does your gym have a women's only section? Or a cardio cinema or something? When I first start back (every few months for the last 6 years) I always frequent one of those areas first. Another one is a swim fitness class, you tend to be with a little bit of an older population and heavier population. I always feel welcome there. Eventually you will be walking in with your head held high ready to make that gym your b**** it doesn't take long!
  9. Too long! Call Dr. I fully agree less in less out but 16 days is a long time especially with an enema in there.
  10. It is amazing to me that at nearly 3 weeks out the changes I see already. Obviously the initial loss, the clothing getting loose, more energy etc... But something that I have noticed is the decrease in my resting heart rate, before surgery high 70s to low 80s was my norm, when I would be up doing stuff I would find myself in the low 120s, which always created an out of breath, sweaty mess. I am a regular pulse checker.... And there's an app for that. So I do keep track. I now sit in the low to mid 60s and when I am up doing stuff... The 90s. Amazing what a 10% decrease in body weight can do!
  11. Oh no no no there are pharmaceuticals for that! I have never experienced nausea (except for a horrid multi vitamin experience) I hope it's better!
  12. I had a great experience with glue. My 4 tiny incisions are nearly invisible. I know that if you have an allergic reaction to the glue it can be a mess. I would guess that steri strips are another option, but I would never want anything other than glue. It's amazing stuff.
  13. I have to agree with the others, wait until your doctor says it is OK. I am in a support group with a lady who had RnY. She has quite a bit to lose, probably close to 200#. She got pregnant within a few months and continued to lose and had a beautiful healthy baby but by 15 months had a pretty small baby and still quite a bit to go. Now 8 months later she is pregnant again and still has a good amount of weight to lose. You need to remember the honeymoon period, that period of time that you are so much more likely to get to that goal. Use this time, make your goals, soon enough you will hold that precious baby in your arms and it will have all been worth it.
  14. My son was 13 when I told him, 14 when I had surgery. I was very open and honest with him. I explained why I was doing it, what the surgery consisted of and what to expect after. His big concern was me stealing his clothes. He would periodically ask me other questions as I went along, like will you come home skinny.... I wish. He struggled when I was in the hospital but was happy to visit me and happier to have me home.
  15. Great job! Beautiful hair!
  16. I stopped trying protein shakes around day 5 and didn't start again until I was nearly 2 weeks out. I did broth etc... But my one and only focus was water. More important to prevent dehydration at this point. I found I felt much better hydrated, even lacking the protein. Once I was able to hit my water goal and maintain it I added protein back in and I have felt great.
  17. When you say hole do you mean it feels like things are leaving your stomach quickly? Is it liquids? Protein shakes? Puréed? Full foods? Have you tried taking smaller quantities? So if you can take 4oz have you tried cutting off at 2oz? Or slowed down if its fluids?
  18. I had a relatively easy hospital stay and recovery. I appreciated having people visit, but the first 24 hrs I was on morphine and was very sleepy. I appreciated when people would walk with me at the hospital. The first few days I was tired, I took frequent naps at odd times. I never had buyers remorse but I did have a food meltdown one day. Once I got on fork soft and off full liquids I have been fine.
  19. I made dinner for my family days after surgery, it made me feel like I was getting back to the norm. I had no issues with it.
  20. This makes me happy. I have thick hair and usually have it thinned a few times a her, but I stopped last December in preparation hoping it will even out.
  21. Hello! I know there are far more of us, but since I just found this thread I would guess they just haven't found us yet! I am doing great! My surgery went quite smoothly, I had a liver biopsy at the same time and my surgery last one hour LESS than what my surgeon anticipated. When I woke up, the first thing I did was look at the clock, I expected it to say 5:30 and it said 4:30 and my first thought was "OMG I didn't get sleeved, my liver was too big" I spent two nights in the hospital, I was quite proactive in my fluids and walking and even when I felt like I was slacking they said I was doing quite well. I was told many times that I was doing the best out of all of us who had surgery on that day (my surgeon performed 3 himself and assisted on at least one that I know of, plus he has two other surgeons in his clinic. I was released the 29th and spent the next couple of days pretty well medicated. I attempted to focus on protein those first few days and I quickly gave up, I was determined not to get dehydrated so I 100% focused on water and by day 5 met the minimum goal of 65oz, by day 10 I topped out at 108oz of water and realized I was using water to make up for my lack of food. I started protein on day 11 and did well getting that in with protein shakes hitting 60oz those last few days of full liquids. I started fork soft/mush foods on the 9th at my 2 week appt (really 13 days) the first day I hit my nutritionists goals of 900 calories and 89g of protein but I realized I had a lack of water for the day, I have evened out and now I am hitting around 700 calories and 60g of protein a day. I would have to say that I have what might be considered a sleeve of steel (I call it my worm) besides some lactose issues on days 5-7 after surgery I have had absolutely no issues consuming anything I have tried. I am happy with my progress so far, I am down just over 15lbs down since the day of surgery and just over 25lbs since the day I started my pre op diet 10 days before surgery. Things slowed down substantially around day 6, I have lost .2 to .4 a day since, I am not terribly concerned 12# in 6 days plus 12# of water weight (yes 12#!!!) so I literally lost 24# in 6 days ha ha. Anyway I know things will pick up as I balance my calorie intake and protein intake. Things are going great, I can't believe how smoothly everything is going. Hope you all are doing well!
  22. I have been struggling since surgery. I have always struggled to leave it on, and tend to rip it off around the four hour mark, in my sleep. Since surgery.... I have averaged 90 minutes a night. I am not sure what is going on. Makes me crazy.
  23. I wish I had! Mine just barely hit my bed, I taped my cord to it!
