I know this thread is old, but I had to resurrect it.
You know you lost weight when ... Your skirt falls down around your ankles in the mall parking lot.
Yep ... That happened. Thank goodness I was wearing Spanx or else someone would have seen my too big granny panties that hang down like the diaper of a toddler that hasn't been changed all day. I think it's time for some new clothes.

When a regular sized bath towel wraps around you WITHOUT any gaps! That has to be the best feeling. I realized this last night when I got out of the shower.
I even wrapped it past the gap about 7 or 8 inches. HOW FREAKING AMAZING!!!

When your sister in law that hasn't seen you in months (lives out of state) walks past and didn't reognize you.
Also, when you actually default to going into the "normal" stall in the public bathroom instead of the handicap stall.

I can relate to you both. I am medicated bipolar and there are days now where I wake up poverty-minded & know that the day will be a loss. Antidepressants only manage chemicals that are unmanaged so they won't eliminate normal moments of funk. I am learning to sit in the feelings, rather than sedate with food, knowing they are only temporary. They are my signal for radical self care! I pull up a bucket of hot bubbly lavender Water for my feet, make a nutritional shake, put a face mask on and watch an old Jimmy Stewart film. I call these saturation days. I have a list of self love activities specifically for these days. Funk happens.

Thanks all. Elfnow, I think your friend is a victim of what I refer to as our cultural pathology. I see if everywhere! My blog isn't wls specific but its a great example of how we center our lives around this poverty mindedness. Martyrdom and Self-sacrifice feed the idea that we are somehow "not enough". Brene Browne often talks about this. We don't believe in our own worthiness unless we can point to our struggle and say "look what I overcame". If you make a list of personal heroes I promise you will see struggle as a theme in what you value.

This isn't just WLS... I have a friend whose dad basically raised him with "if you don't struggle doing it the hard way then you've cheated yourself and you aren't appreciative" ... This has nothing to do with weight loss, but so many other facets of his life. Why spend your hard-earned $8,000 on a reasonably decent used car, when you could buy two decrepit identical cars for $2500 and then spend another $8000 in five-hundred-dollar increments, and three years of unending frustration "fixing" one? Why buy a new stove for $400 when you can get an old cheapo one on Craigslist for $50 that only has two working burners? If you can't fix it you just aren't trying hard enough! It's EASY!! "Any fool can do it" he's fond of saying.
Now if the guy practiced what he preached, maybe it'd be something ... But he doesn't. The dad has got 5 - yes FIVE - old motorcycles just rusting away waiting for "a good day to build ____". House falling down around him bc he won't redo the roof himself and won't hire a contractor because "any fool can do it"! And if a project never gets done, well, it's never his fault.... Always someone else's fault. This has driven my friend some kind of crazy over the years. Now he's 36 and trying to not pass this crap on to his daughter.
I'm forwarding your link to my friend... Because he needs to get his head OUT of his dad's insanity.... And "purposely taking the hard way" is totally his dad's MO.

ElyQuint reacted to mistysj in Gluten Intolerant and Sleeve, Anyone have and advice?
I'm not gluten free, but the sleeve "rules" mean that most of us don't eat many gluten-containing foods. I hardly ever eat bread or Pasta for instance. Protein, vegetables, fruit, and dairy are my staples. Most gluten-free recipes are to modify gluten-y foods to be gluten free. You don't necessarily need to do that, since you probably don't need them anyway. If you are not celiac or do not have a diagnosed intolerance, then a little bit of gluten now and then will not hurt you. If you are trying to avoid all gluten ever, you will need to pay attention to things like ice cream, sauces, gravies, salad dressings as well as the things that obviously have wheat. So it just depends on what your goals are.

The growling is often a consequence of too much stomach acid. I wonder if the prescription will help. I'm so sorry you're so uncomfortable. I wish your doctor would have been more proactive to keep you comfortable!

I keep telling myself I am going to make some of those mini quiches in a muffin tin, but I am too damn lazy to do it.
I am making some now! Bell peppers, green onion, spinach, sharp cheddar, and Canadian bacon. Yum.
