Just listen to your surgeon and those of us with extensive experience. When it comes down to it, on that table your life is in his hands and he knows best

Again, I question the motives of surgeons that don't emphasize optimal health before they cut you open. Whether it be smoking, pre op diets, etc.

If one is an adult planning on "doing as they please" they need not ask questions they don't want the answers to, hmm? The OP asked a question and got logical answers from those with experience. If you're tired of smoking lectures, it's easier to ignore them than deter the conversation.

This is the way my doctor does it. I left nicotine forever in 2006 and have never looked back - I smoked for 16 years and dipped for over 10. I went through WAY TOO MUCH trouble to quit to ever take it up again.

Hi all. I just received my 6 month post-op bloodwork results. My hemoglobin A1C is down from 8 pre-op to 5.6!!! I was in disbelief when the doctor told me. I was expecting it to be good, maybe in the 6's but was just floored to hear 5.6. I was down to just Metformin since the surgery and he took me off that now too. He said my diabetes has fully reversed itself and that I no longer have to classify myself as a diabetic.
I am so thrilled with this, I just had to share my good news.

I'm so sorry for your losses - just a thought: sometimes God means "not right now" but we mistakenly hear "no" - miracles are possible. And if he meant "not this way", there are many kids waiting to be adopted and I'd bet you'd make an excellent momma. Hang in there!
On the flipside of guys, I read here just the other day about a woman that told her man she was having the surgery and he told her "I only date fat girls" - you're right, if he's not considering the woman inside first he doesn't deserve you!
Don't dwell on your past - unless it's an uplifting memory don't waste your time on it. You have enough to keep your mind occupied learning this new lifestyle we're entering. Concentrate on the wonderful future that is waiting for you, the NEW IMPROVED happier excited-about-life you.

In the end, you gotta do it for you. You deserve the best and you certainly deserve the best quality of life for yourself. Taking care of yourself first will reap the benefits you want. I wouldn't go through this for anyone but me. If it gets me that look from an attractive lady or two at the mall, I certainly won't complain!

Just to let you know, I am a hugger and since I cant physically do so I wanted to verbally send a squeeze to this forum.
I was led here by my sister who was researching information for me about the sleeve and the effects of having children after you have it..I have never left!
I got my sleeve on 4/24 and I havent looked back thanks to this forum and the tremendous wealth of information.
I have to be a sleever in secret, only telling a few people who I can trust. I have created a cover, using my pre-op diet as my new trend to see how people respond to an extreme method and socially how my friends would respond to me.
I was saddened to see how a few of my friends acted, acting as if I was too good for them. A few have created a narrative that I know will carry over when I see them again of "she stopped eating,I am so worried" to "yeah she looks good but look how she got there" it has affirmed that I made the right decision.
I have met some amazing people already and I am inspired by your journey, your struggles. Even your occasional disagreements bring me to new found awareness! Thank you for being so open and willing to share this difficult, deeply personal time with all of us.
    I appreciate you!

The NUT visits are good! Great place to ask questions from a professional.
I also *HIGHLY* suggest getting involved with support groups as soon as you can. Many times a NUT will be there and possibly WLS-knowledgeable medical staff. At my last one there were two RNs, both former WLS patients.

Give it time. It took me about 3 weeks with the gel, and then it wore off because it's a temporary solution to a life long problem, and I was given a vial of Test. cyp and the doors of heaven were opened! If you guys aren't getting pinned for T, and using the gel, I'd recommend talking to your doctor about injections instead. It's a more stable delivery platform and it's easier to manage doses to make sure you're not on a roller coaster ride of T. Plus, why get on T therapy if you're gonna have to worry about your wife getting a mustache because you got sweaty bumping uglies and it reactivated the gel.

If you haven't already, work on taking smaller bites and chewing each bite 20-30 times each. What'll happen is that you'll eat slower and feel full before you finish your plate (vs the other way around) or you'll get tired of eating before the plate is empty. Eating slower has caused me to not eat at much at each meal and is helping me lose weight. I've lost 30 pounds pre-op.
