I only told a few people....I'm not worried about failure nor am I embarrassed...Its just my personal thing...Alot of people will express there negativite to the surgery whiles other say, I'm fine...I don't need it...so instead of sharing, I prefer to keep it to myself....Its been since March 2013, when I decided upon this & I still don't have a date yet...1st, I had to quit smoking, then give up diet coke...done....now its 2 more lbs to go...all my tests are done & insurance submitted.....now everyone that I did tell about my surgery has forgotten...

I'm hiding it from a lot of people and have only told close friends and family. I can only give you my reasons why. I am a lap band revision. I remember comments made to me when I was getting my lap band and I told everyone. Telling close friends this time I got some negative responses one in particular that really pissed me off and also had an aunt shove a smart ones meal in my face and tell me WW was all I need in my life. (As if I haven't done that a gazillion times) I may or may not tell people after the surgery. I'm undecided. I told my husband to not tell my MIL bc she will tell the entire state of SC. His family are the happy fat people type that can't understand why you can't have "a little sugar"(diabetes) and just live life happy and unhealthy. In the end it's a personal choice, the surgery, and I dont need others negativity bringing me down about it. I have enough of my emotions all over the place right now as I'm being sleeved on Wednesday. I don't need to add to that bc of someone in my life forcing their opinions on me as to why I shouldn't have this done. Sorry for the long rant. Lol. The person I mentioned earlier pissed me off recently so it's still fresh. Hope that gives you some insight.

I'm not hiding it, nor am I ashamed of it, I am simply not announcing my surgery to the world. Why? It's none of anyone's business. I am working hard eating right, exercising daily and journaling everything.
My parents and immediate family know, my BFFs know and a few of my work team members know. Why does anyone else need to?

TES reacted to teacher in Slice of pizza
At my 6 weeks post-op appointment, my dr. cleared me to eat anything I wanted. My husband and I went to our favorite local Italian place and ordered a medium pizza. I ate 1 piece of thin crust, supreme pizza and I did fine and felt no guilt for eating it. Before surgery we would have finished off the whole medium pizza at the restaurant. That night we took home more than half so I feel that I am not going deprive myself of things that I like. I am just not going to eat the whole pizza.

my pre op diet was two Protein Shakes and a low carb dinner. I did not have to do full liquids until three days before surgery. I am not sure what your pre op diet is, but it seems to me that everyone's is different. So my suggestion to you is go to the wedding and the dinner have fun don't go over board. Try to leave the carbs alone. Good luck!

The article is talking about 20-30% of TOTAL weight not excess weight. Makes a difference. Still, 20-30% seems a bit low but I think that completely depends on how overweight you were to begin with. It is also an average of everyone who has WLS, not an expectation for each person who has surgery, so half the patients will have to exceed those numbers, while the other half fail to meet it.

I would think it would be virtually impossible not to lose SOMETHING, but results may vary. It all depends on how serious you are and how willing you are to make the necessary changes. You are not guaranteed to KEEP it off either.

I know weighing at night is not advised but including the two week diet, I've lost 27lbs! Extremely happy with my sleeve!

It's pretty certain you will lose weight with the sleeve. Many make it to goal, some do not.
It may not be 100% guaranteed....but without WLS, most of us here could be guaranteed of still being obese.

People who know you often have that reaction. I am 5'5" and once I got under 200# I was getting alot of that type of thing. Truth of the matter is that I weigh about 155 now and I am far from thin... I am just normal. It is just that if people are used to you being obese, normal looks thin.
don't let them dissuade you from your goals.
Listen to thin people more then obese people and listen to feedback from people who didn't know you as obese. When they start saying you are too thin, well, maybe then you are....LOL

People are just used to seeing so many people overweight to one degree or another, that they've forgotten what 'normal' looks like

Ok, I understand people's perceptions....but I've been wondering/thinking lately that have we as a society forgotten what "normal" actually looks like....which is why so many people make these kinds of comments regarding losing "too" much. I have set mini goals for myself which are really when I was younger, at lower weights. I bet people would now say those were good weights, but back in the day I could catch a cold faster than a date when I was at each of those weights. I think our tolerance of being overweight has become more common place, thus the norm is now skewed. IMHO...just sayin'. :-)

I think some people are kind of jealous. Even good friends/family. Many want to sit in the judgment seat and can't handle it when you finally take the bull by the horns. I also think there is a timeframe when the weight first peels off that we do look a little drawn because our skin has to catch up. We lose so fast that it takes them by surprise.

I've been getting that lately as well, including from my wife. I still want to lose another 5-10 lbs, I only just today got to within the 'normal' range on the BMI chart, I want to get a little lower in case I bounce back a little in maintenance.

You will get that from time to time. What I have found, is that I went from being 366 pounds and am right now sitting around 224 in about 11 months, for everyone else around us who doesn't see us all the time its such a drastic change that they do think we look a lot skinnier than we actually are. I have had people tell me not to lose anymore.. I'm 5'5 and 224 is not where I want to be at.... I know its hard but try not to look too much into it. Losing a large amoutn of weight in a small amount of time not only makes you look at yourself in different ways but others as well. DO what makes you happy, until your Dr tells you that you are loosing too much weight, keep doing what you are doing.
