BigDaddyJoe got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Isn't 6 weeks kind of early for a stall? Stuck at 157...
I had 2 separate 2-week-long stalls by 6 weeks. Nothing you can do about it. I'm still down 88 lbs (and below my doctor's goal weight!) in 5 1/2 months. The body releases weight when it wants, never in a straight line.

I had a fairly bad hiatal hernia that was repaired during my surgery.

I can't say that I had a single 'moment'. My wife and I made the decision to do it together. I did it so that I would be around for my kids. I know I was headed for a heart attack or stroke. Heart disease does run in my family, so I still run the risk, but I was definitely headed that way, no doubt in my mind. High blood pressure, sleep apnea. All gone now. So it wasn't a single moment, but I did have my motivation.

Well, I didn't let myself think that I couldn't do it. Not doing it wasn't an option, as far as I was concerned. I know people who didn't even do the pre op diet, and went out to Red Lobster the night before surgery. Needless to say, these people have not done too well with the surgery, because they obviously weren't prepared mentally to do the things they needed to do to make it work.

Too much soy scares me. It boosts your estrogen levels, and can have negative effects on females and males. Just make sure to do your research before eating too much of it.

Wow, guess I've been doing it all wrong! I still do 2 shakes a day, eat cheese sticks pretty much every day, and beef Jerky occasionally. Pretty much all I eat is Protein. And there's still no way I'd get enough protein without the shakes. Hope it works out for you.

I second Butterthebean's question. The only Protein there is a little bit of fish at dinner time.

My only question is....if Breakfast is coffee and fruit, and lunch is a big salad....where's the Protein? Did he give you a target to hit for protein grams?

BigDaddyJoe got a reaction from SuzyB in Why am I ashamed that I had to have WLS?
I thought I wouldn't want to tell anyone. I only told a few people beforehand, and got tired of hearing "but you're not THAT big", or "you could do it yourself", so I stopped telling people. A few days after surgery, I woke up at 5 am, and it was bothering me that I had lied to people about why I wouldn't be around for a week, and would be lying to people if they asked how I was losing weight. So I typed up a long note explaining what I did and why I did it, what the surgery is, why I chose it over other surgeries, how I was doing, etc., and posted it on Facebook. I got a ton of support. Now, if anyone asks, I'm honest about it, and actually enjoy talking about it. I haven't gotten any negative comments, and have gotten a lot of questions because people are curious. I'm glad I decided to talk about it, but it was a very personal decision and I understand not everyone will make that same decision.

My wife and I were sleeved 6 weeks apart (me 03/08/13, her 04/19/13). We wanted to do it closer together, but she had issues with getting time off from work.

I would think it would be virtually impossible not to lose SOMETHING, but results may vary. It all depends on how serious you are and how willing you are to make the necessary changes. You are not guaranteed to KEEP it off either.
