I am almost a year out and I have hit my goal set by the NUT, however, my own personal goal was number based (150) and I think it is still seen in my ticker. That was set when I was in pre op stage. Now, that I am almost a year out, I can write WITH CONFIDENCE that the 150 mark doesn't even matter to me anymore. I have been able to do so much more than I could before and I am VERY happy with that.
Now my goal has moved into something more challenging and meaningful like hiking the next mountain, playing baseball with my sons, or shopping with my daughter and being able to try on different clothes without feeling like 'every stores doesn't have my size'.
I think the goal set forth should be about perspective. Yeah the # part helps to keep you in line, but it can also cause so much stress when trying to solely focus on just the % of amount lost.

I am about 3 weeks right now and although I don't have the physical desire to eat all of the time, I do still have it a little bit. My Water intake is astounding, and I know that I am not mistaking this for hunger. Also I am on a regiment of taking nexium twice a day so I know the hunger I feel is not related to this either.
The Good thing about the hunger is that I am able to control my eating now and not go to town on everything I see and smell.

Stock up on Protein shake samples! You taste changes after surgery and what you like now, you may not like so much afterwards. Also, You may want to get some soft things like yogurt, cottage cheese, creamed Soups (not chunky). I think I lived on String cheese and eggs for awhile, lol.
I agree with the Crystal lite too. it will help improve your Water intake but watch out because it is often called Crystal Crack for a reason... It becomes addicting.
Good luck to you! I will be looking out for your future posts.

You can STILL eat many of the things you love.... just a lot less of it.
I am almost 1 year out and I will answer this to let you in on how I am doing.

Can you eat a whole apple? Yes

Can you eat rice and Pasta without discomfort? Yes, I can eat these, however, eating too much of it is not good for weight loss. I know of some people who can not tolerate these foods with the sleeve and some that can only slightly tolerate it. Then there are others, like me who can eat this just fine.

Do you ever have the occasional glass of wine with dinner? I am not a drinker so I no wine for me, but I do have drinks with my meals. Is it a no-no? I think this is dependent upon who you ask. Also, I have noticed that when I do have drinks with my meals it fills me up faster so I dont eat as much- but then I do get hungrier later on.

How have your close relationships been effected by your weight loss? Everyone around me has been real supportive. I have been honest with those close to me as much as I wanted them to know without becoming the 'food police' over me. My relationship with my husband has improved and so has our late night activities

Are you able to quickly drink a glass of Water on a hot day or after a workout? I can down a 16 oz bottle of Water in 10 minutes. A glass... maybe 5 min

If you were an emotional eater, what behavior have you replaced the emotional eating with? This is a good one. I am still struggling with this. As I ate out of boredom, stress, excitement, and sadness. The boredom usually exists when I am at the computer typing and that is here to stay. I have to always have something to drink next to me, and I am not talking about Crystal Crack (Crystal Lite). The a drink like water with frozen blueberries often will fill me up and keep me hydrated.

Do you have any sadness associated with the inablilty to eat a large portion of something incredibly delicious? Oh boy! I did at first. I was a huge foodie and loved really good foods. In fact food was often seen as a good friend back then. It really hit me when I was able to move into solid foods and hubby started making Texas sized steaks (that cover the whole dinner plate) and I looked at it as if I could still eat it all, but physically i couldn't and it didn't quite register in my brain that it wasn't possible. When Fondue night came around a buffet of little delights was all around me and all i could do was nibble on a few things while everyone else was gorging themselves full with delight. I WANTED TO BE LIKE THAT at that time period but ONLY in that moment. That was when I realized that I did have an eating problem and I let my emotions take over me. Not only was I eating HUGE portions but I would often eat to feel happy. I think around 5 months PO I became more settled with the thought that this was indeed permanent and old behaviors fell to the way side and new behaviors kicked in.

kulita got a reaction from erp in I have a blood clot AND it is infected
    UPDATE on my clot.
It has been almost a year and that red streak over the top of my arm goring from my wrist 1/2 way up to my elbow has now turned a brown tint... sort of like melasma but in a line. The antibiotics did help clear the infection to the point where my body could try to break down the clot. About 6 months out, one of the clots in my wrist went away another one traveled up and planted itself in my elbow. Oh the aches this caused! Eventually that turned into an abscess and I had to have 2 rounds of different antibiotics when that occurred.
Other than the clots, and some hair loss (yes I have so much Protein and biotin) I am really healthy. Thank you for all of the concerns and hopefully this thread will serve as an information point for another person in a similar situation.

My favorite was how Sharon Osbourne was brought up and how she had the lap band removed, so I should be smart like her. LOL Are you flipping kidding me? Look where being "so smart" has gotten me... obese and on my way to a grave.

Don't be sorry! We are all used to counting for her and she knows how to do it herself too.
For shakes I have Syntrax Nectar in chocolate truffle, vanilla bean, and strawberry mousse. They have 0 carbs, and 0 fat. The chocolate and vanilla are pretty good in Water, but I prefer all of my shakes in milk which I know adds up my carbs. You could try changing up your shakes.

Aw hun, I know how frustrating it can be. I have a T1 Diabetic daughter and we had to watch her carbs and now watch mine as well since I was sleeved. My Dr said to stay around 50 total carbs, Of course this is difficult to do when you know little things like green Beans, or oranges have carbs too.

I have never had the foamies, but I have had the slimes. No, they are not one in the same. Funny though... I never had the slimes when I was on a liquid diet, so this leads me to believe that it is related to actual food not being chewed thoroughly.

I am a part of a bariatric group here in San Diego and the biggest faux pas I see is not enough Protein and not enough Water. Then that is quickly followed with the incorrect protein type and not following Vitamin guidelines. Right now it is ok for you to not be as active as you normally would because your body cannot support itself like it used to due to the lack of sufficient calories. Are you consuming enough protein and water? If so, What sort of protein supplements are you taking and are you writing everything down?

    Count total carbs.
When your body is trying to make energy all carbs turn into glucose no matter where they come from. The only thing that doesn't get converted as readily is insoluble fiber which sweeps through the intestines. Insoluble fiber may be difficult to digest after a VS so be careful.

Molly I just looked at your surgery date. If your colace is the same capusle that I am thinking of it should be safe to take it, but remember you are still early out and it may not "pop" inside your stomach in time for it to activate. Go to a drugstore and get some Miralax and mix it with some flavored crystal light.

I was told that by 3 months it will be safe but to exercise caution because sometimes the size of pills or capsules can irritate the stomach. By 6 months you should be in the clear.

Need to to mix up your Protein shakes and try something different?
There is a clear Liquid Protein broth from unjury called chicken Soup and it REALLY good.. BTW you can eat this one warm, and it taste EXACTLY like how you would want homemade chicken soup to taste.
If you like chocolate, try Syntrax's nectar in chocolate Truffle. With Water it tastes like a YooHoo, with milk it tastes like a Wendy's milkshake.
I also have The nectar in Vanilla Bean torte (23gm protein) and I mix it up with 2 oz of blueberry kefir and 4 oz of milk (9gm protein). Kefir is 99% lactose free and has just as much Protein as milk.
If you like fruit juices try Unjury's strawberry Sorbet. Mix it with Water, lemonade, or milk and yogurt (strawberry cheesecake). I have made this one so many ways even into ice pops!
Of course all of these items are 0 carb and 0 fat too. samples of the Nectar can be purchases at Vitamin Shoppe and Unjury through Unjury.com

kulita got a reaction from NtvTxn in do u feel full faster
    Um..... YEAH!
Let me put it this way, Before surgery I could eat a baked potato, a whole ribeye, roll, and 1/2 cup of broccoli, with a soda.
After surgery I could eat maybe 1 beef hot dog with bun and mustard. (We were out and there was nothing else to get that was small)
The hot dog was at my max limits.. so I don't eat like that all often. Normally I eat about 1/4-1/2 cup of food per meal.
I found out recently that the hot dog that I ate was considered by the FDA to be a "normal" serving of calories for a meal. Weird, right? I made me realize just how much overeating I was actually doing.
