You don't weigh enough for that....So sick of hearing this!
Yeah, but what is funny is that a lot of Dr.'s wont touch patients over 500 lbs. due to the increased in post op complications Those patients have to find Dr.'s who take higher BMI/Weight cases.

I have a blood clot AND it is infected
I am supposed to watch how the antibiotics work. If I feel better and the swelling goes down after 3 days then I don't need to return, but if the symptoms persist then I am guessing I will see a specialist and more aggressive treatment.

Soft diet sorrows

I have a blood clot AND it is infected
Mystigal, I noticed my hand was tender but my wrist hurt the most almost immediately. My Dr. said it was a superficial clot and the typically go away without any problems, but I guess my body's WBC could not break it up and thus created an infected site. As for how long you have to worry... I would say don't worry until you have to worry. There is no need for undue stress, but also take precautions and follow your Dr's orders.

I have a blood clot AND it is infected
It is related to the surgery but not directly. Let me explain. I had an IV in my hand during surgery that became infiltrated and the nurse decided to change it after she saw my hand get swollen. I noticed it was swollen almost immediately but I thought that I might have still been too woozy from the anesthesia. I do remember getting like 9 treatments of heperin, but I guess I still developed a clot. Ms. Antiband how long did it take for it to go away and what cream did they give you?

I have a blood clot AND it is infected
I am a tad over 1 month out. At my 2nd week apt my Dr. said that I probably have a superficial blood clot in my wrist and he didn't seem too concerned since they typically do go away without any complications. He told me to put a warm compress on it. Fast Foward to today (1 month) and my wrist is swollen, painful to touch, and has a slight red streak above the clot area. The actual area feel like a a knot! I decide to go to the ER and I was told that it looks infected and it should have started to go away by now. So they gave me antibiotics so that they can tackle the infection part and hopefully that will give my body enough to take care of the clot. Oh and I am in a sling. I am curious to find out what other people had to do in a situation like this. I am thankful it isn't a dvt, but this pain does hurt a bit.

If I can eat a 6" subway at 5 months, how much at a year? :(
So you ate 2 sandwiches? How did you figure this was 6 in?

Stomach spasms
Yeah it gets better. The spasms quiet down for some people and for others a trigger food will bring on spasms. Mine has mostly quieted. I thought I was doing real good and wasn't hearing or feeling anything for about 4 days and then something as simple as eating my family's hummus (my native food) brought it back on. Weird, right?

Coffee & Weight Gain Study

If I can eat a 6" subway at 5 months, how much at a year? :(
First off take this test to find out your capacity. http://www.bsciresourcecenter.com/proddetail.php?prod=A4 It is a valid bariatric test. What you do is measure a tub of cottage cheese. Then eat until you are satisfied but not full to the point of uncomfortable. Weight the remaining portion leftover. Subtract the 1st weight with the 2nd weight and that should give you a good est on how much your sleeve actually holds. Now, Just becuase you can eat a 6 in sub now doesn't mean anything really. I mean it makes a big difference if it were a plain meatball w/ sauce sub versus a roast beef with all the fixin's sub. Also the bread type does matter too. White breads expand much more than wheat ones do in the stomach. You can experiment with this using white vinegar and a slice of each type of bread. Soak until saturated and notice any expansion and break down at the 30 min and 60 min mark. The weights and texture ability of both of these subs are very different. The meatball one may weigh more but may also break down more easily thus creating a slider type of food. The roast beef one may weight less but has a lot more roughage and could fill up up faster. So, more details on the type of sub would help.

You don't weigh enough for that....So sick of hearing this!
I am taller than most girls and I would often hear that I don't look big enough for that surgery. Big enough.....????? Really? So that person is subtly informing me that they know I am BIG just not The World's Biggest Gal big. I had to tell them that I am qualified to have the surgery but I have other conditions that I found to life threatening to deal with if I didn't have the surgery.

my situation...Part2
There is something called employee confidentiality in many workplaces. She could be seriously reprimanded by doing something like this. Additionally, it shows other co-workers who thee can and can not trust. I am happy that she apologized to you but if it happens again you should bring it up with your Human Resource dept.

Post op complications
I think that they may be an exception. Not every bypass patient has post op complications like that. In fact I personally know of someone (Amy) who had it done in 2003 and she has not had a single problem, not even dumping. Of course she could be hiding some problems from me, but she looks great (not sickly). She does have alot of excess skin but that is it. She doesn't complain about anything and eats well. It is also safe to write that Sleever's may experiences post op complications too. Who knows? I mean in 20+ years we may find out that our bodies actually need the grehlin to assist in post/pre prandial learning abilities and thus we may have a new form of mental illness when we grow old. I hope this doesn't happen but who knows. I too would have been horrified to hear those ladies offering their experiences, and I agree that so long as many of us check in with our Dr.s every year or so and on these forums we, as patients, can help the medical community and provide more relevant long term data.

Got turned down and you will never believe why
Ok Well, Calm down. It happens. In 2005 I was denied then I appeal and was approved only to find out the week prior to surgery I was denied due to recent changes and I no longer qualified. I kept fighting it and in 2013 I was approved and wasted no time in getting my sleeve. Try to apply again. Do they have an appeal process?

Odd but cool NSV
While I was driving my daughter to school today, she was being a bit weird and became silent. I asked her what was wrong and she said, " Ok, I am just gonna say it. You look weird to me". I asked her what she meant by that and she replied, "I am used to seeing my big, fat, old, cheery mom and not this skinnier old cheery mom." So, I instantly retorted that I was not old, just old-ER than her. I also thanked her for the compliment on my weight loss and reminded her that I was still the same cheery person. She said it was gonna take some time to get used to seeing me shrink. HAHAHA! That made my day and I hope it lasts all week.

I'm 5'9"...I exercised 5-6 days per week its become somewhat of an addiction I must have been confusing you with another person on here... Sorry for that. Like I wrote before, follow your NUT & Dr's guidelines and I am sure everyone on here will do fine. Each of our bodies work differently and has different needs.

"At the extreme low end, when your body fat cannot ‘keep up’ with the energy deficit you've imposed on your body, the energy MUST come from SOMEWHERE. This is when you are at risk of losing lean body mass during dieting (commonly referred to as ‘starvation mode’). This happens at extremely low levels of body fat, under 6% in men and 12% in women [Friedl K.E. J Appl Phsiol, 1994]. " This is why we are told to ingest a minimum Protein level so that our body will not break down muscle tissue and will aid in muscle Fiber repairs. Additionally, a large number of WLS patients do not go strictly no carb and no fat for the entire time they are in honeymoon. There are carbs in unexpected places (like green beans) and fat in weird places (like avocados). By making conscious decisions on choosing the RIGHT carbs and fats, you will be supplying your body with the correct nutrition that your body needs without having to begin muscle tissue breakdown. Jeez..... the nerd in me came out again.... sorry ya'll
