What I miss most after WLS...
To be honest, after I am finished eating I am too full to even consider drinking anything. Usually by 30-45 minutes the fullness is gone and I may take small sips. Usually I wait for an hour to pass.

Anyone attempt a "Pre" Pre-OP diet a few months prior to having to start your actual Pre-op diet?
Well, if your Dr.s instructs it, his/her office can write it up as a part of a monitored diet plan.

Pain at my IV site
I was sleeved about a month ago and I still have some pain that is probably at a level 6 if I touch it. My IV was in my hand and it started to get puffy and a day after it was swelling a nurse said it was infiltrated and I had to have it changed. At first there was some minor pain at the site and a few days after surgery I chalked it up to my body healing after all of the trauma. I spoke to my Dr. about it and he said it could be a very small clot but not to worry as it won't really harm me and to apply a warm compress. 2 weeks later, I am still in pain (only when it is touched or moved) and the area above my wrist is swollen. Not grotesquely swollen, but it is noticeable. I was reading about IV infiltration and one poster on another board said she had developed scar tissue and it would take 6-12 months before the pain would go away. Has ANYONE had something like this occur? I am just wondering when my wrist and hand will go back to normal.

The good part of the pre-op diet is that you will know which shakes you like and you have time to get a variety...trust me you will need variety in your shakes. The Bad part is stocking up on those shakes only to find out that you don't quite like the way the shake tastes post op. My taste buds didn't change post op, but others on here have had their taste buds change. Start with my fav's Syntrax's nectar or

What's going on with my guts?
LOL... ok I would try the Jay Robb ones before you jump to eating eggs instead of protein shakes.

protein shake full of chemicals?
If you want to go to the health food route you could try RAW by garden of life. This Protein shakes uses brown rice Proteins. I tried it and didn't like it as it was very gritty in texture. Another option that is very healthy is Jay Robb egg white or whey protein. I have tried the egg white protein and I thought that is was good. Not the best but good. I have not had his whey protein. It is a natural as you are gonna get aside from curdling your own buttermilk and separating the curds from the whey

^ THAT sounds like a fantastic idea!

What's going on with my guts?
Ok, do any of your shakes have dairy in it? Whey can be made with and without lactose. People who have trouble in finding lactose free whey protein usually go to egg white protein.

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
Hmmmm, well your new sleeve should be healed well by then but I was told it wont be fully healed until 6 months out. You could add some things to your shake to break up the monotony flavors and change textures a bit. In vanilla shakes add banana (this gives a more slimy texture unless you use frozen bananas) Peach with skin peeled flavored kefir/yogurt frozen jello (sounds gross but adds lots of flavor and smooth texture)

Are you taking prilosec or nexium to reduce the amount of acid in your sleeve? Also, are you crushing your meds & vitamins or are they liquids/chewables?

Alone in Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is really REALLY nice. TJ is not so nice, but then again you want to know more about the Dr's not so much the city. I live in San Diego and the I hear and see all sorts of things across the border. There are actually a lot of very reputable Dr's practicing in Mexico and they are the ones who are truly promoting tourism )aside from Spring breakers) and encouraging a healthy economy back into their country. Off of the top of my head, Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Aceves, and Dr. Garcia seem to be very popular. You may want to bring someone just so you don't feel alone and have someone to talk to. Also, if you can find someone going to the same facility around the same time maybe you both could explore MX together.

I know of a few girls who live around me that are doing this right now so that they can lower their post op risks and shrink the liver. One of them lost close to 30lbs in a month from just being on 3 shakes a day plus a lean cuisine with a small salad. Granted she has a lot of weight to lose but seeing her lose that much made her smile so much brighter than I have ever seen before. Keeping the weight off should be easy if you follow the Dr.'s and NUT's instructions. When you resort to eating slider foods (search the forum for it) or junk foods that is when some people see their weight creeping back up. Some people also think they are gaining when their cycle is about to come, or they have been building muscles mass. Bottom line: Don't follow the # on your scale, take measurements instead.

Vitamins?
Iron, Multivitamin, B12, B1, and Calcium citrate (not carbonate). The dosage of these Vitamins changes from Dr. to Dr. also some will not requires this many vitamins based on blood work.

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
Wow. That is intense and you are sure to lose a lot of weight. So after 6 weeks you go straight to regular foods or soft foods?

But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6
Go to a forum topic and click on start a new topic tab, which is on the right hand side of the web page

How many incisions?
Don't worry about it. Some have 1 through their naval and other have more than 4. I had 6! I'd rather have 6 small ones instead of 1 giant one like they used to do.

But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6
When I told my support group that my goal was to be in a size 5, there were eye rolls and gasps that I even brought up something like that. Then I explained that I know that it may be unrealistic to get to that size (esp since I am rather tall) but once I reach goal why do I have to stop working so hard at that point? Why can't I go further? If my body wont let me then I will try to maintain. Then it seemed as if others were more accepting. Now, keep in mind this is a large support group like 50+people. I was being completely honest and not sugar coating anything about my expectations. I expect that I will reach goal. I WANT to go beyond goal, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Anyone worried about being "too skinny"?
I have curves too and I don't want to be sickly looking. I know exactly what you were referring to when you mentioned that. We all want to be healthy and fit not too fat and not too skinny. So, as long as you are eating well, drinking lots of water. and strength training you should be fine. When I hit goal (long road ahead) I will repost on here on this thread if I can find it.

What's going on with my guts?
We are sleeved around the same time. My tummy was doing the same thing earlier this week. So I went back to only Protein shakes and decided to try out each food one by one in a meal. So on Monday it was Protein Shakes and beans- no problem, Tuesday protein shakes and cheese- no problem, Wednesday protein shakes and toast- MAJOR PROBLEM. Once I found out what it was I was able to take that out and then continue to eat on my soft stage again. I will try toast again when my tummy has had a chance to heal a bit more. You could try to reintroduce your foods again

Pain related to Surgery
I can take dull pains pretty well but sharp pains.... forget it. I could not take the pain of the surgery. The dull part came from the incisions like I got beat up or did 5000 sit ups. The sharp part came from all of the gas and I had to get up and walk around to get rid of it. I was on a pain med IV pump that I could hit the button every 10 minutes. Around the 5 day mark I felt really good and had very minor discomfort.

Exsess saliva and burping

Where is the ecuadorian faker?!
I leave for the day and come back to over 30 message on this ridiculous post?!??! COME ON! Grow up.... I thought I left high school. There isn't a need to get our point across using foul language. All of those swears could have written more tastefully in a more educated manner. I was born into an Egyptian family living in Texas, but raised in a mix of all sorts of cultures and I do believe that no one could ever say anything that is so offensive to me that I wouldn't be able to walk away from. If someone on here makes anyone that irate, you can choose to respond in an effective way that does not make you look uneducated, or not respond at all. BTW if anyone on here thinks I am talking directly to them... well then you are probably right. If you didn't do ANYTHING wrong, then this message is not for you. Let's keep the peace while getting our messages across. Now, BREATHE in deeply.... and Exhale..... Move slowly into the downward dog position.....
