  1. I have never had the foamies, but I have had the slimes. No, they are not one in the same. Funny though... I never had the slimes when I was on a liquid diet, so this leads me to believe that it is related to actual food not being chewed thoroughly.
  2. Make sure you fully understand all the good things that could come from this surgery as well as the bad. Yeah it may be extreme to think like that, but you need to be well prepared.
  3. I used to use MFP but now I go to FitDay because I can see vitamin levels broken down. It is easy to track things. Just get a a notebook and write 4 colums. 1- date, 2- time, 3- water in oz, 4- protein in grams
  4. MizzouGirl, That is fabulous! Can you help us out and give a brief sample of what you eat that brings it to 600-700 per day?
  5. What happened to you made me laugh. It has happened to me too. When you reveal something so intimate to another person that you feel should know about the surgery, you want their support and attention not a criticism or a lecture, granted I am sure it was out of concern. My favorite was how Sharon Osbourne was brought up and how she had the lap band removed, so I should be smart like her. LOL Are you flipping kidding me? Look where being "so smart" has gotten me... obese and on my way to a grave.
  6. I am with Reigo in what I can eat. 300 a day seems really low and almost on the brink of malnutrition... but that is just my opinion. and you should always follow your Dr's guidelines. Jhiggy, are you eating it over the span of 30-45 minutes and chewing thoroughly? If you chew until it is pulverized you can meet your caloric intake and it will not hurt/give that lump in the chest feeling as often.
  7. What?!?!? How is that possible? From reading it on these boards I know it is possible, but it doesn't make any sense. I mean if I make a 6 oz shake with milk for Breakfast, that alone comes to over 200 cals. My Nut devised a plan for me to consume 600 cals by having 6 oz of shake and about 400 split between BF, lunch, and dinner Breakfast Shake-2 oz of shake lunch Shake- 2 oz of shake Dinner Shake- 2 oz of shake
  8. That sounds like pain from eating/drinking too much at one time.
  9. Are you on a PPI? How is your potassium intake? Your PPI should be taken on a regular basis. Some Dr.'s prescribe it only once per day and some break up the strength of the- dose into a smaller strength and increase the amount to twice a day. I asked about your potassium because when you get cramps it is often prevented by an adequate consumption of potassium... now this is if it is typical cramps. Since you are on week 2 and moved up a week, puree a banana with your shakes that should help a lot. Other on here SWEAR by drinking some pickle juice to relieve cramping. I will admit that one time my cramps got so bad when I was in week 2 that I gave up and drank 2 oz of the stuff. Within 30 minutes my cramps went away. Coincidence? Not sure...LOL
  10. My Dr & Nut has me on 600 a day until week 6 and then it is bumped up to 800. Honestly, for me I was finding it difficult to stay at 600 and would often creep into the 800 range. Now, that I am past 6 weeks I creep into the 1,000's regularly. I still loose weight and I eat whatever I want, albeit bread or bread like products have not been doing too well so I try to avoid that.
  11. wow... well again, each Dr. is different and sometimes has plans that are not similar for each of us.
  12. Courtoomp, I know that not everyone has the same Dr., but the bariatric team (Dr. Cirangle sits on the board and he is the founder of this surgery) where I live unanimously agreed that we needed calcium citrate and no other form will provide nearly enough calcium at a rate in which our bodies can absorb. I am sure that in the years to come the nutritional needs for our surgery will change yet again, as they did back in 2005, LOL.
  13. You want to keep your carbs to a minimum aim for no more than 50 per day.
  14. I forgot to add that most products will have insoluble fiber on the nutrition label below the Total Carb line. It is usually indented. My daughters Diabetic Dietitian taught me that
  15. Count total carbs. When your body is trying to make energy all carbs turn into glucose no matter where they come from. The only thing that doesn't get converted as readily is insoluble fiber which sweeps through the intestines. Insoluble fiber may be difficult to digest after a VS so be careful.
  16. Take a regular dose because you should have an adult sized colon right?
  17. ^ most of those protein shots are not made with Whey isolate which is what our body needs. Typically they are made with, whey concentrate, collagen or a mix of the two. Be careful and make sure you are getting good quality whey isolate protein.
  18. I am a part of a bariatric group here in San Diego and the biggest faux pas I see is not enough protein and not enough water. Then that is quickly followed with the incorrect protein type and not following vitamin guidelines. Right now it is ok for you to not be as active as you normally would because your body cannot support itself like it used to due to the lack of sufficient calories. Are you consuming enough protein and water? If so, What sort of protein supplements are you taking and are you writing everything down?
  19. I forgot to add that by week 2 I could have gone back without any real issues. By week 4 I really was back to normal, albeit I couldn't' eat like I normally did, LOL
  20. I know a lot of people take off about 2 weeks on average. I took off 1.5 months and I am so glad that I did. I was able to have my family really sit down and listen to my needs and help me as much as possible. Also, by the time I returned I got so many compliments on how much weight I lost.
  21. Molly I just looked at your surgery date. If your colace is the same capusle that I am thinking of it should be safe to take it, but remember you are still early out and it may not "pop" inside your stomach in time for it to activate. Go to a drugstore and get some miralax and mix it with some flavored crystal light.
  22. Get a recliner to sleep in.. Saved myself from a lot of pain from getting in and out of bed. Also get a VARIETY of flavors in shake mixes. This is also a good time to get a variety of brands to determine which ones you will like after surgery. I always tell people to get samples first instead of investing into a huge tub of nastiness. Try Syntrax nectar in chocolate Truffle at vitacost.com, and
  23. I am a firm believer in you get what you give. If you put crap in expect crap out. Ok... that was a little blunt and I am sorry for that. You need the best calcium for your bone health and tums does not provide enough calcium in quantity or quality to support a WLS patient. Try to find the BEST calcium for your body which is in the form of calcium citrate. If it doesn't specify calcium citrate a good rule of thumb is to look for calcium and then citric acid in the ingredient list. The calcium I take is found here and has Vitamin D, C, K, and supplemental minerals not typically found in a multi-vitamin. All of my Vitamins and supplements come from whole foods. http://www.drugstore.com/natures-way-alive-calcium-bone-formula-tablets/qxp404864
  24. I was told that by 3 months it will be safe but to exercise caution because sometimes the size of pills or capsules can irritate the stomach. By 6 months you should be in the clear.
  25. It seems that JenniferKatie and I have have very similar taste buds! Someone gave the BJ bariatrics website... which is good, but I have found them cheaper at LuckyVitamin.com, vitacost.com, and sometimes at Vitamin Shoppe.
